Tell me where you are again, please. I'm self-quarantining after a recent hospital stay but will be on the first thing moving ASAP! ;-0 Edited to add: I see you're in Amsterdam. Do they have a travel ban right now? LOL
I am not alone in thinking about getting out of the US. Canada is very attractive.. I would like to live as remotely as comfortable
There is a mutual travel ban between the US and the EU presently. I had all the symptoms of COVID at the beginning of March just before Italy closed it’s borders (And I was hanging out with a large group of them who were coughing) and I had a hacking cough for five weeks but it wasn’t debilitating. My two daughters are here and I have no plans to leave anyway.
I grew up in Detroit and as a teenager Windsor was my back yard. Just be sure to keep your gas tank full cause there is so much open space that stations are very far apart. The people are very friendly and polite and I thought the girls were very pretty. Right now the Canadian US border is shut tight, i last heard. The Netherlands is the most densely packed country in Europe with nothing but cities and farms so if you are looking for remoteness you would hate it. You might like Sweden though. Lots of open space there. I’m here because of my girls and the fact that the Netherlands has the freest speech in Europe in my opinion and I kinda like the cooler weather and even the rain and cloudy. Most people hate it
I don’t use it but only because it makes me feel awful and even hopeless. I’m told it affects about 15 percent of people like this. Just not worth the resources used to fight it. Now if we are talking about meth or PCP or cocaine or heroin, to me that is entirely different. But I don’t think long prison sentences where the dealers are in with violent criminals are the answer. I admit I don’t have a good solution.
It's horse pucky. To find drug-related violence, you have to look to something other than cannabis. People under the influence of weed are much more likely to stay home and order takeout while watching old movies. And if out in public, pot users are more likely to scurry in the opposite direction of any violence that does start, or duck behind a table or something. I think perhaps M. Castex has been shown that old "Reefer Madness" movie from the 1930s. Many Americans have been using the stuff pretty regularly since the 1960s, and most of us are pacifists unless directly threatened. In fact, in those states that hsve decriminalized cannabis, crime rates actually decreased. Here in Colorado, the manner in which you buy the stuff is very detailed ... you can't just walk into a store, there's scritiny, meaning underage kids can't get the stuff, and there's no black market left.
This is the freest place for cannabis I can think of. It’s officially still illegal even in Jamaica!! If anyone can cite a single example of any act of violence ever while under the influence of THC I would love to see it. And Reefer Madness is awesome. I love the wild piano playing!!
Though it's possible for people to get aggressive on cannabis, it's a depressant. Cannabis definitely has its drawbacks. And nothing pisses me off more than seeing people go too far, saying it's non-addictive and has no drawbacks. Let me list a few: Lack of motivation Increased appetite, weight gain Facial twitches Different perception of day to day life Addiction As a libertarian I think these things are better left to the individual. I have got plenty from cannabis that I am thankful for. If the right person has it it can be life changing.
I think I take the same view that the Dutch take on the red light distract and on cannabis. They don’t approve of either but don’t want government to ban it as it will exist regardless of government’s intentions so might as well tax it. That’s a government windfall not a government expense.
I don't like the taxation or regulation, which is why I prefer legalizing cultivation for personal use. But hey - I've been to Amsterdam and I'm not going to argue with their system either! Nothing beats a trip around dozens of coffee shops on a bike.
Amsterdam has become a Mecca for tourists that come here just to get high without appreciating its long tolerant history. My kids are in Arnhem which is literally on the other side of the country but there is no work there.
One day in a long itinerary was enough. I didn't go to Amsterdam for its coffee shops, I went there because I love the Dutch culture. I didn't go to Morocco for hash either, but I'd have been silly not to have tried it being in Chefchaueun. As the world moves closer to legalization the drug tourism aspect of Amsterdam will fade due to competition. It's a lot cheaper to go to Denver or Nevada than Amsterdam for a lot of people.
Back in the 80's a DEA administrative law judge named Francis Young conducted days of hearings on the drug. His conclusion was the exact opposite of your claims. He found it to be "the safest therapeutic drug known to man" and recommended the Agency change its classification. The Agency refused, of course, as it would have made them look bad.
Pot smokers are less likely to be violent. Even if you get a stoner really angry at you, tossing them a Hacky Sack and some Pop Tarts will quickly neutralize the threat!
On the few times I smoked it I just felt like I was going to or recently died. I would have been incapable of committing a crime.
As noted... Horrendous that so many would pimp this dangerous poison for the convenience of their hideous addiction.
My experience with pot smokers is that they can be EXTREMELY aggressive, particularly if they haven't crammed their perpetually angry feelings down with their 15th bowl of the day. Incredibly dangerous and destructive - as well as addictive - drug.
What's horrendous is how many lives have been ruined to satisfy the self-seving lies of this most evil of the robber barons. https://www.massroots.com/learn/the-man-responsible-for-marijuana-prohibition/
