Lets' not pretend we are stupid, Balto. People are dying all over the place because idiots across this country did not sneeze or cough often enough for them to think there was a problem. You don't have to cough because of the virus, to pass the virus by coughing. You don't have to sneeze because of the virus, to pass the virus in a sneeze. And then there are all those who convince themselves those couple of sneezes yesterday meant nothing because there were only two yesterday. Now there are a lot more and that fever is just beginning to worry them...

Your arguments are moronic but I know you are intelligent. This does not jive as a genuine argument.

~ Nobody is "wandering around" without a mask. People wear them where/when required. Your concern is misplaced. Be angry at the Chinese Communist government & WHO for suppressing facts .

And we all know how unpatriotic Americans were in 1918, when almost everyone wore the mask. Those bastards!!

Going full Army Surplus Gas Mask, and Christian Cross shield, and a plastic light saber to warn others in the Grocery store to keep their distance from my 6ft diameter of currently occupied space

I appreciate the complement, but the concern of a government telling me what I should do, against my will, cannot simply be written off as moronic. Maybe the bit about people mistaking Covid, yeah that’s a bit of a stretch. A fair compromise would have been if you want to wear a mask, wear a mask but if you don’t, then don’t. It became political when the mandates began falling from the sky.

Its not a fair compromise to the people who die because you want the right to be stubborn.

    This is so ridiculous.

When you need surgery, would you prefer your surgical team wear a mask or do you not care? If your surgical team said, "Hey, government says we have to wear masks, but F that; we're going rogue."

Do you a) jump off the table or b) say, "okalee dokalee, masks are for suckers, anyway?"

OMG - science haters really do hate science.

This is, by far, the best explanation I've seen on masks.

This is another apples to oranges comparison. In surgery, your body is cut open, sometimes your brain is only connected by the spinal cord or you’re dead. The stakes are a lot higher, because the chance of death is much higher. Going into a store without a mask is not even on the same scale. It’s as ridiculous as trying to say masks are like seatbelts.

You also come in contact with bodily fluids. Do, not may. Another reason wearing masks during surgery is not comparable.

Thank you for admitting that masks do work and that you just don't care to try to keep others healthy.

Did you even read what I wrote?

You have to be sick to pass on a virus. If you’re not sick, there’s no point in wearing a mask. Apple to orange comparisons to try justify wearing a mask wear my patience down pretty quickly. Like the one about surgery.

Cutting someone open and the possibility, not guarantee of droplets being spread is not comparable. We must not be considering bloodborne pathogens or feces either. You can tell pro maskers are losing the argument when they bring up apple to oranges comparisons to try proving their point.

A lot more have recovered than died. The Hong Kong Flu is still deadlier than this is so far. Obsessing over deaths aren’t going to help us find a solution, the recoveries—millions of them, will.

Choose to stay ignorant. You've got lots of company. After all this time, you're still spouting stuff that was debunked months ago. Keep pretending you haven't been informed that you can have this thing and have NO symptoms. Read the OpEd piece I posted. It's about The Freedom Cafe. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't eat there.

Who made you my master? I can decide for myself when to wear a mask, and when not to wear one. So maybe you should just buzz off and stop trying to manage other people's lives.

This is out of date. You must wear goggles now to "keep strangers healthy".

Wow this crap again. Its not just about death or life, which I gather you call 'recovery'
Here's what I said in rebuttal last time . "This is not a binary choice. A hell of a lot who have left the hospital have yet to fully recover, and we have no clue the full long term damage in serious cases requiring hospital admittance where the result was not quite a death sentence. Maybe you just leave them with ARDS, permanent lung damage, fibrosis, other organ damage including the heart, the brain, the kidneys all of which are reported as part of your little covid package. Then there are the mental and emotional recovery including cases of PTSD, anxiety, depression secondary to the illness and the isolation in induced . I guess in your world, if they don't croak, its like a case of the sniffles. Some tissues and a cold compress and its all good.

Then we can talk about their financial recovery, maybe you will pitch in and help get them out of financial devastation you caused, when they are out of work with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of medical bills."

And yet another silly binary choice. The same exact options for finding solutions exist( vaccines, treatment protocals etc) when we wear those masks as when we don't, except we have a lot more time to implement them if our hospitals are not swamped and our work force in health care are not overwhelmed with high acuity patients. The CDC did not stop working on solutions to write these recommendations and scientists are working around the clock right now, just as they would if we wore those masks in March or in August. Our obsession with death as you put it, has not slowed down the search of a permanent solution. Unless you can prove that science for solutions has been impeded by governors putting on a mask mandates with a link....,

Keep your spit and mucus out of stores and public places. Either wear a mask or stay home and pout about 'govt' telling you what to do. meanwhile businesses are increasingly refusing to serve you and that too is a good thing. Have a good long pout while you are at it. Let it last months.

If the death toll surpasses 1 million, then Covid will officially be deadlier than the Hong Kong Flu. The only reason I bring that up is to compare it to pandemics that have done worse damage than this one has currently. You’re right, people will be in stages of recovery but what we need to understand is they are not face to face with death. They’ve gotten over Covid, thus why the recovery label can be applied here. The next phase is antibiotics and therapy. Everyone has some sort of pre existing condition, some worse than others, and some of the conditions a Covid leaves behind could have formed even without the virus, especially if it ends up being genetic.

The reason I withdraw any responsibility for the financial damage is because I didn’t support the measures to cause such economic carnage. The ones who are guilty are the people that backed the idea of locking down, costing people everything they had. To this day, I don’t understand why Walmart can be open but mom and pop stores were told to close, if political power isn’t a motive. Or why we had to start labeling people, I.e. essential from non-essential. The people responsible for sending the country into a depression are, in part, the governors.

Say what you will about Sweden, but the government allowed citizens to think for themselves and not act like a dictator. And Sweden has a lower mortality rate than countries like Belgium. Many stayed home on their own accord, the option, the choice was given to eat out, but many chose to dine in. This is what the US should have done. Leave governors out of it. It’s weird to say this, but it seems Sweden looks more like how America should be.

I think that anyone wearing only a mask should be fined and jailed for public endangerment because they are not wearing a hazmat suit. Heck even gloves and goggles along with a mask would be a simple improvement that could save hundreds of thousands of lives.

~ Actually a plastic face shield that comes below the chin would be effective. Don't expect Fauci to suggest that.

Yet, let’s go ahead and demonize a country who’s government acted appropriately. Now is a test of ones character. Welcome the authoritarianism, or rebel against it. Many were arrested during the Civil Rights Movement, which in a weird way, had civil liberties at stake like this does. Again, those who think we should have locked down and support the mandates never really cared about civil liberties in the first place.

Astonishing how you minimize this. Its excuse after excuse.
You are not comparing 'damage' at all. You refuse to admit to most of the damage. those people who did not die, were often still face to face with death, they simply did not go to the morgue. And a lot of them did not 'get over it' even with therapy and and still have not gotten over it. They may never 'get over it' either physically or emotionally. The damage to those lungs, or to their other organs may impact their quality of life for decades or until they hit that morgue. they may never be truly free of that oxygen tank, may never walk up a flight of stairs, never play a round of golf, never go swimming. We still don't have quality data on the long term impacts of this disease. You don't care. They did not die, they are therefore defined in your imagination as 'recovered'

You get to think for yourself. You do not get to act on what you think. You can decide that its safe to take a curve at 60 miles an hour, when the posted speed is 45 miles an hour. You can think that. But govt has decided differently.

You get to decide that exposure to nudity is emotionally healthy for everyone, despite living in under the yoke of a govt that says you may not be nude in public. You can think that. But govt has decided differently.

The 'economic carnage' comes from a virus that you willingly pass along to whoever happens to walk by. You may not know who has health insurance and who does not, or who has a job and who has not, but you know that this virus is putting a lot of people out of work or in the hospital, a lot of whom cannot afford those medical bills, or to be out of work of two weeks post diagnosis ( that's how long after their symptoms disappear they have to stay in quarantine) , or a month or 3 months of convalescence if its serious, let alone the ones who will never recover well enough to go back to their jobs. We are not even starting with those therapy and drug bills you say they will need.

All so you won't be inconvenienced, or so you can give the middle finger to big bad govt. Even if govt did not have a duty towards public health, you should put that damn mask on.

~ All the theater, drama and exaggeration about masks. Everyone is wearing a mask. It has done little good. Look at China as an example.
I suppose some people just need a "cause".
