    Interesting idea. However, I can see why nobody currently in Washington would like the idea. They would lose their elitism.

    What you should be proud of is being American. If you come here from Mexico for instance and call yourself Mexican American it indicates you have not and will not " pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America". Your allegiance is by definition of your hyphen divided.

    Sounds a bit complex but I would be for a more simplified weighted voting system with things like I very two years in welfare you get half a vote.

    Keep in mind that a teacher's job is not done when the school bell rings. So, ounce for ounce, they are actually earning less per hour than these numbers show.

    Hyphenated Americans get to send their kids to school, use our highways, enjoy the protection of our military on and on so yeah they pay full taxes.

    Have you FORGOTTEN that the REASON our nation was FOUNDED was because of a DISPUTE over taxation WITHOUT representation?

    In essence your position is much the same as that of the British Monarch!

    Why are those on the extreme right always postulating odious AUTHORITARIAN impositions on We the People?

    Teacher pay varies by state, local district, and years of service. In general, the pay can be quite low to start. Often times teacher pay is not enough to pay all the bills and two incomes are required. Pay levels may seem pretty good in some areas--at least until you see the cost of living in those areas. It's more of a "just get by" kind of pay scale.

    As I said, the hyphen connects, it does not divide. And as I said, let's keep in mind that all those hyphens are followed by "American." Let's be proud of that.

    Calling myself Mexican-American (or any other -American) does not indicate any such refusal to pledge allegiance to the US.

    Is our nation a Slave owning Confederacy or a Fascist dictatorship because that is what those flags stand for that white nationalists are carrying?

    The term UNAMERICAN comes to mind when I see those flags,

    “Followed by” are the operative words here. Obviously you put your Mexican heritage before your American citizenship and your allegiance is divided as should be your vote
