    Because he was black and the cop was white. Had the races been reversed or two of the same, you wouldn't know who George Floyd was.

    I don't know, the video was very compelling. Honestly I did not think it was about race. I thought the expression of Chauvin the whole time was wierd.

    The video proves it had nothing to do with race and more to do with a resisting criminal who was high on drugs.

    Nobody cares about media. Nobody cares what the ignorant public say either. More misinformation about hate crime status seems to come from rightwingers than leftwingers on this forum. Don't know why.
    Please guys take the time to learn how this sentence enhancement and sentence mitigation stuff works.
    1. A sentencing hearing is not a criminal trial. Evidence of animus based on class must reach the same burden as the criminal conviction itself
    2. We have been entertaining evidence of motive and intent and mental state in both civil and criminal matters for hundreds of years. Its been an element in both the definition of crimes, establishing levels of negligence. establishing competence, Nothing new in any of this 'thought crime' garbage.
    3. The language used in these is broad. Race can mean animus against blacks, whites, or asian. Ethnicity can mean Mexican, Irish, Chinese, or Kenyan. Sexual orientation can mean gay, straight, bisexual, or assexual.
