    Tks, for the good laugh!

They say it helps if you try distracting yourself w/ recitation of mundane things like counting backwards from 100, lol... Good luck w/ that... :)

There is a two lane, flat road in the county here, for about 3 miles, nothing but groves and pasture on either side.

    148 mph
240 Z with a passenger on a downgrade, at night with a bright moon, on a wide two-lane highway, with a view many miles ahead.

As I started to drift, I would turn the wheel and get no response. Finally I realized that the front wheels were coming off the ground. But if I just waited, the air friction would steer us back very slowly.

I got an '89 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser station wagon with a broken strut up to 110 on interstate 80 in Iowa in 1997.

Darn, I feel old now. I was pretty proud that I did 100 mph in my teenage son's Nissan 350Z... and this apparently is peanuts compared with what most of you did.

100 in a 350? Did you mean in second gear?

good gosh.. I hit a hundred on my '88 Harley last week! Had to point it downhill and stay on it for minutes .. but finally hit 100 mph. Wifey's Lexus will hit a hundred almost by accident.. but then I often cruise 82 mph down the highway on the 500 mile round trip to pickup groceries

Hell, I got a bj in a Buick while doing over 100. :D Funny thing was that I didn't mean to be going over 100 but got distracted...

100 is fast if you make a sudden stop. I was extremely lucky my tires didn't blow out at 148. That was a very very risky thing to do. But I wonder most about the people who were with me when I did this crap. I had a number of close calls and I always had a friend with me at the time.

I noticed that they list the 240 with a top speed of 125, That is bs. I did about 120 all the way from Sacramento to Los Angeles and was really just cruising. I wasn't even pushing it hard. At times I would ramp it up to as much as 140 or so.

    LOL, nice.

It is true that 100 in a 350Z feels like nothing. That car is so powerful! It accelerates so fast, that you easilyreach 100 and it is begging for more.
It think it is actually very dangerous. Why make such a small car, so powerful like that? It's literally a recipe for disaster. My wife was relieved when my son decided to sell his 350Z to pay for some other plans he had.

Yes, I have long wondered when they are going to put speed limiters on cars. It is hard to believe they haven't already done so. The same with motorcycles. Crotch rockets today are INSANELY powerful. You can't begin to legally use that HP anywhere except a racetrack.

True, lots of power, and young people are prone to misusing it. But boys will be boys. When I took my son to the dealer to buy his car for him, I intended to buy a Nissan Altima; you know, a nice and safe sedan for a young guy to take to college and be safe - actually my wife had looked up the safety ratings and had recommended it. We got there; we had negotiated in advance over the phone using the Costco program, so his Altima was there waiting for us, but the salesman said "since you are here, why don't you take this 350Z for a spin?" Well, we did, and immediately fell in love with the Z. I bought it on the spot (although it was more than twice as expensive as the Altima). We came back home (delivery would be a few days later). So my wife asked, "did you buy the Nissan?" We said, "yes, we did." Erm... we didn't say what kind of Nissan... we weren't lying, LOL. So four days later they deliver the Z to our driveway. I was at work. She was home. She calls me and says "there is some mistake, the Nissan dealers are trying to deliver the wrong car here. They are delivering this black cockroach. It isn't an Altima." I said, "well... as a mater of fact, it's no mistake... it's called a 350Z and that's what we bought." She went ballistic. She wanted us to return the car. She said "are you out of your mind, giving a sports car like this to a teenager? He'll crash and die! How fast does this thing go???" My son was "But mom! I want it! I want to take it to college with me!" And my wife went "Why?" and he said "to tell you the truth, I'll be frank, not only the car is gorgeous and exciting, but it is also a chick magnet!" LOL. Bottom line is we refused to return it, my wife was pretty upset but couldn't do anything about it and little by little she accepted it as irreversible. She refused to drive it. She never did for the duration of the time my son had the car. He kept it throughout college and sold it when he graduated, before he went to graduate school. Not once my wife drove it and she didn't even like to be in the passenger seat.

I just looked it up, apparently the Z is electronically limited to avoid going above 155 mph.

It goes from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds. The 370Z does it in 4.6 seconds.

I remember a day when I was driving my son's car, and I was a bit distracted on the left lane, and a jerk came behind me, tailgaiting me and flashing his lights. Instead of ceding the way to him, I simply pushed on the gas... and in seconds I left him behind like a dot in my rearview mirror... just to teach him who was the boss, LOL.

Well if it takes more than 5 seconds to get to 60 you might as well give the car to granny. :D 155 is still way too fast.

It is hard to resist taking a car to its limits. I had one very close call one day when I was cruising down the I-5 just South of Redding. A older Asian guy in an RX 7 came cruising up along side me and wanted to race. So we went for it. We were nose to nose up to about 130. Then he started pulling away from me ever so slightly. But I was out of my torque range. I knew he had me beat. I took my foot off the gas and let the car wind down naturally. About the time I hit 80 mph, two Highway Patrol cars passed me like I wasn't moving! I backed down to the speed limit. By the time we caught up to them, the two cops were on the side of the highway with the Asian guy in handcuffs.

ACK!!!! I took the next off ramp and hid under the overpass for about an hour. I knew they were looking for me. They just missed me because I had slowed down too much by the time they caught up.

the cops usually pull over the loser because they are closer, it appeared to be racial profiling.

i did 160mph in my Lamborghini Diablo on a race track, i had to sell it when the economy downturned.

Reminds me of the story about the guy in court for a speeding ticket. He very indignantly told the judge:

"This officer singled me out of an entire line of speeders!!"

The judge asked the officer if this was true.

The young police officer replied slowly and softly:

"Well your honor I guess that's true. I flashed my lights, sounded my siren, even honked my horn."
"He was the only one that stopped."

Fastest I ever reached was 150 mph on my Moto Guzzi Le Mans 2.

Pushed my Celica to the limit and reached 120 but that was on a steep downhill.

Speaking of steep downhills I had the brakes done on my Eclipse and they overtorgued the rotors and bent them causing a vibration when braking hard. I took it back to the dealer and they just replaced the pads and the problem reoccurred. So I asked the Service Manager to come with me to show him the problem. I took him on the highway to the top of a hill where there was a steep down ramp that ended in a traffic light that was always red for the main road passing beneath it.

I never lifted off the throttle to take the off ramp and didn't touch the brakes until halfway down. The entire vehicle was shuddering and shaking as it rushed towards that red light. The service manager replaced all 4 rotors at no charge.

On the autobahn, between Bonn and Köln (Cologne) we made 194 kilometers per hours -- that's 120 miles per hour. We were in a big Mercedes sedan with a V-8, and believe it or not, there was a Porsche that sped up behind us and flashed its lights wanting to pass... and of course, we pulled into the 'slower' lane.

That was a fairly long time ago, actually. Today, the famous autobahns in Germany are seriously clogged much of the time -- especially close to any of the larger cities. Ah, 'the good old days'....

Fastest I ever drove here in the States was just about 110 miles per hour, in Montana, heading east out of Great Falls. I had seen three (THREE) Montana Highway Patrol cars all together for some kind of pow-wow right at the eastern entry into Great Falls, so I knew that beyond that there wouldn't be another police car until you got to Billings -- over two hundred miles away! 8)
