I moved out of socialist CA to Meridian, ID Advantages here in Meridian New and newer shopping areas. Easy place to travel around in. Ran by Republicans Changes for Californians You can purchase a very good 1400 sq ft home with a large lot of about 8000 ft sq for around $300-400,000 What you can purchase at the same price in CA is a very large home of above 3,000 sq. ft. in a prime neighborhood. Meridian has no bad neighborhoods. Here food is not tax exempt when bought. The food you must eat is taxed at a rate of about 6% It gets cold much earlier than the temperate parts of CA. Consider the elevation here in Meridian of about 2605' Traffic While not remotely as severe as in the very busy LA area and the SF Bay Area, still at some times of day, expect to wait a few minutes for oncoming traffic to clear Summer is warm but not humid
Musk says he does not need the money from selling his large homes. Says he is focused on going to Mars. Musk will be great for TX.
How were you received by the "native" Idahoans. I ask because there is fear in Texas, in some quarters, that enough Californians will move here to finally change the state to blue (again).
The natives do not bother me. However my son whom I live with says to me, do not tell anybody you came from CA. There is a fear here in ID that CA moving here will force homes to skyrocket in prices. Time for me to plan to buy a lot of homes here in Idaho.
Democrats do spread that disease of being democrats. I definitely fear others from CA who are Democrats will move here too.
It's too bad; I know that here are millions of conservative Californians, my own successful relatives, for example. And I think tons of blue collar workers there are nauseated by wokeness and political correctness. Just not enough of them, apparently.
Just outside of Fort Worth is Weatherford, a friendly town where people talk with the thickest, old country western accents you ever heard. Fort Worth is pretty relaxed, and I'd say very relaxed compared to Dallas. I do not think it is a "pretty" town, but there is a decent enough downtown area where you can stroll and visit bars etc. in safety at night. I am thinking of AZ myself, because of the weather. Allergy sufferers don't do well here. I myself am half sick and coughing all the time. Have been for years. I'm convinced it's allergens blowing up here from Mexico.
5000 new Austin employees, and however many Space employees, will boost the economy. Musk doesn't have to personally spend much of his $10 Billion. He brings jobs with nice incomes.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to live in hurricane-prone areas. However, Ft. Worth is in a tornado alley, but I don't think has ever been wiped out significantly with storm damage. "Weather" would play a part in my decision were I to decide to move.
Elton Musk is just another plutocratic socialist looking for government handouts. Elon Musk’s growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html
Definitely the mind of the Democrat reminds me of the Honey Bee mindset serving the queen of the hive.
Houston is one of the more horrible places I know of anywhere in the United States! It's hot, humid, drenched by frequent hurricanes, overrun by myriad swarms of large, vicious insects, infested with venomous snakes, and, did I mention that it's really hot and humid...? There's all that, and, Houston's population is also made up to a large degree with, uh, shall we say, the 'less desirable' elements of humanity.... Austin, as you probably know, is quite different, both better and worse. Austin and its municipal government is saturated with hyperliberal, America-hating Democrats -- headquartered at, and near, the University of Texas campus. I had just graduated from there a few years before the 'rot' set in, and now it is irreversible -- along with an enormous spike in Travis County's population that makes it pure hell to drive in or around Austin anymore, especially if you have to drive across any of the Colorado River bridges at any time in the early morning or late afternoon. Elon will be in a chauffeur-driven vehicle of some kind, so he won't mind the traffic jams and endless delays on those rare occasions when he actually has to go into town. He'll surely have an absolutely palatial mansion out to the west of town (possibly near the lakes), built well within a secure compound, complete with its own 'army' for protection, a helipad, etc., etc. Best of all, he'll be able to afford the gargantuan costs required to run the mammoth air conditioning systems needed to keep a mansion relatively cool throughout the seven months-long 'summer' of Central Texas, and, he'll be able to afford the no-less gargantuan costs of paying Travis County property taxes -- over two-thirds of which go straight to whichever public school district his compound is located in. The teachers' unions love it when the rich relocate to their part of the world!
Yeh I think I heard him talk about it on Rogan’s podcast. He’s kind of an odd dude and his thought processes are hard to follow but he sounded like he has his head screwed on right.
Musk makes the TESLA at Fremont CA where he has plans approved to double the size of the plant and he says he will have 20,000 workers there. Fremont, CA plant claims to now have 10,000 workers. https://www.tesla.com/factory
Orange beach is pretty cool but really really touristy, and the panhandle is nice but IMO it seems to be a hurricane magnet, depends on what you are looking for I guess. I'm a fan of the west coast of Florida, from Sarasota down to Estero. Has a little bit of everything and if you are close to the coast you won't notice the heat/summers as much as inland.
Well, there are millions who love it there, and I can assure you that your chances of being bitten by a large vicious insect (mosquitoes?) or venomous snake in Houson is next to zero. Hot and humid? For q few months, and anyway some like heat and humidity, especially if they grew up with it. I lived briefly in Houston and liked its dynamic business environment and Asian restaurants. Also, they have one of the finest museums of fine arts in the world. If given a choice between Houston and any city in the mid Atlantic, or far north, or L.A., or San Fran, or Portland or Seattle, or the northeast, I'd take Houston in a second. https://emuseum.mfah.org
I suspect he'll build a nice little man-cave/office in the Austin factory with a fridge and bed and spend most of his time there. What does he really do besides work and sleep?
Ha! Well, forget about swarms of mosquitoes, billions of 'fire ants', at least five different species of venomous snakes, and CHIGGERS, everywhere -- did you ever see what people in Houston call "water bugs"...? Oh, and they have them in Austin, too....
Actually the middle class has been fleeing Cali for a while now. Only the elites and homeless have been able to survive the last decade.
I don’t blame him , being a former Californian there is no way I could ever live their again with what is going on with the local government . LA is nothing but a polished turd now , it sucks because I do love my hometown but no way in hell am I trading freedom for a beach that is lined with homeless tent cities . Democrats have ruined the state for the average Joe , and made it 1000 times harder on those who are already down . Progressive policy is a cancer .
So, true, and I've also seen what's happened to San Diego in the past thirty years, and it makes me want to PUKE. Hyperliberal, 'woke' Democrats are like the worst kind of disease, that infects and contaminates every healthy, wholesome, worthwhile thing it comes in contact with, and ultimately these America-hating Democrats destroy them -- from the inside OUT, like a parasitic gut-worm.
