Not long ago I read an article about Rudy's bar. It would definitely be a place to visit. I hope they survive it would be a shame to lose a place like that especially after it survived prohibition.

If it grows nothing it is probably overly compacted. If you think it has too much waste, was it formerly where a dog was kept? Their pacing back and forth in the same area will compact soil pretty good.

I probably have all together about 10 feeders and during the summer I put out feeders for the hummingbirds.

    Ahh the humming birds. mmm.
When we visited Yosemite the cottage we rented had hummingbirds feeding off the flowers around the front door. Just amazing.
Best holiday I've EVER had. And the Americans we met were the kindest, nicest people I think I have ever met. You couldn't get out of the car without someone asking if you needed any help. And if you put a foot on the road everyone would stop and wave you across, we wondered if there was a secret pressure pad that cut their engines. ;):)

It was just a fleeting moment on God's vast canvas. I do have many attempts at capturing land and skyscapes, I don't really have a secure method of sharing them on the open net.

Cold is supposed to be gone, mostly, be Sat. I have a plumbing repair at the little rock church bldg.

Back to my garden spot, because the sun is so intense, we have to plant in the shade.. and that's what that place is.. now.. being mostly desert, large bare spots is not unusual.. but this spot is next to a piece of old oxbow that is thick in grass not 20 steps (and 4 ft lower) away.

Living on the old oxbow of the Rio Grande River, our place naturally attracts many species of birds.. we have a lot of mezquite beans for them to eat.. Our place is unique in that it is a rare refugee for the wild things.

The Jet Stream is far south of where it usually is. {insert nerd speak} Continuously below average equatorial pacific temperature. La Nina Atlantic ocean temp is 2 degrees above normal. Wave ridge trough amplitude is higher than normal.

If you understood that, congrats. I do not. :)

Lovely. We are in rural England, near the fens. we get quite a bit of wildlife and we built a small stream in our garden to give the birds running water which they love to wash in.
But I must admit I'm jealous of the amount of land you guys have over there in the states.

I fancy myself fairly good with a camera, but nothing can do this true justice.

I call my house The Shack, but I get to drink my morning coffee to sights like this.... Sunrise 2.jpg

I could really grow to hate you ;) Not jealous, Nope, not jealous.
That is stunning. Almost impossible to paint as the brightest you can paint is white paper. But I am tempted.
Beautiful bit of photography there, so peaceful.

Ok so tried to rescue this using suggestions on here. I think the contrast has improved it. Added some movement to the water and a couple of people as a focal point lightened the road next to the bridge and added a few reeds at the waters edge. Looks better but. The thing with watercolour is any additional painting immediately starts to look muddy as you lose the freshness of the original paint.
    Your thoughts.

It is still wet, but it will dry first. Going to put broccoli up there this year. Then mulch with cardboard and hay.... or pine straw.

Thank you for the posting tip.
Camp Holland was one of the post put up in the 1910's to guard against elements of the Mexican Revolution. I also has a historical marker as the spot of the last capture of hostile indians.

Livestock.. either goats, cattle or horses I'm guessing, and it may have been a dump for the household too.

I would definitely start by tilling the ground. If you don't have the equipment might want to ask around to see if anybody knows anybody who can run a plow through the area and then you or they can till/disc behind them. The alternative is to bring a lot of new soil to pile on top and let the current surface be your compaction layer. Hell even running a rock puller through it several times would be better than trying to plant on compacted soil. It will take you a few years to get that area on autopilot as far as gardening.
