A bit of reality here. Hitler wanted to destroy Leningrad, since it was the seat of Bolshevism and he hated them, so in addition to the bombardment, the Germans blockaded the city.

Food was scarce throughout Russia, since the Germans had occupied the farm lands, so Winston Churchill asked Roosevelt to start a lend lease with the Soviet Union to save the people in Leningrad from starvation. Besides their own population, the city was also packed with refugees trying to escape the German advance. It's believed that over a million people died of starvation - Vladimir Putin's brother was one of them.

The Lend Lease consisted of food and trucks to carry the food the 6 thousand miles from Vladimostok or Iran to Leningrad. So we did not help them win the war, we kept the people of Leningrad from starvation - and it was all paid back.

Frankly I can't understand people who hate Russia just because they can't control it.

Here's an interesting tidbit about Stalin, although the nun who said it doesn't know if it is true or not. When the Germans were outside of Moscow, Stalin didn't know whether he should abandon the city or not. Someone told him about a Saint in Moscow and to ask her. If the story is true, then it was probably Saint Matrona.

Well according to the narrative, he did ask her and she told him not to leave Moscow because the Germans will not enter - but he has to open all the churches. They did open overnight, but was that the reason? Who knows?

The Lend Lease to the Soviet Union was 1 billion not 11 billion. I read Churchill's biography and he was the one that asked Roosevelt to help the starving people of Leningrad. I also saw the list of items that were sent to the USSR in the Lend Lease, and the only large items other than food, were trucks. There were some other small items on the lists, but no war equipment.

The American ships would dock at Iran or Vladisvostok and the Russian soldiers would jump in the trucks and drive the 4 to 6 thousand miles to Leningrad. To save the people, they even risked driving over the frozen Lake Ladoga. As for gasoline, they had plenty of it. And as for tanks, the Soviets had plenty of them as well.

I did a lot of research on the Soviet Union in WWII for a book. I saw the ledgers, and I know that the Lend Lease was for food and trucks to deliver the food. The only equipment in large quantities were trucks to deliver the food. I read once that the Soviets lost their planes at the beginning of the war, but I didn't see any planes nor did I see any other war equipment.

I know the Soviets had the best tanks in the world, and that they had more tanks than all the nations in the world combined, so why would they want American tanks? Frankly I would take anything Washington says with a grain of salt - especially if they're saying it in Russia. It's all propaganda to buy the people.

On October 30, 1941, President Roosevelt, determined to keep the United States out of the war while helping those allies already mired in it, approves $1 billion in Lend-Lease loans to the Soviet Union. The terms: no interest and repayment did not have to start until five years after the war was over.
