And those kids don't apply for the accelerated classes - simple. Those classes are optional, remember.

Removing the option altogether is a step in the wrong direction, and does not support your claim about motivations.

At one point, it would be a conspiracy to think China is slowly dumbing us down by buying off important people, buying companies, getting on boards, stealing off every piece of IP, but it’s no longer a conspiracy. It’s happening. They’ll never have to fire a shot.

private schools are the only way to go these days ... expensive but worth it ... 2 out of my 3 kids got free rides through undergrad and my youngest, the free spirit, got through on various scholarships and grants ... this couldn't have happened had they gone to public schools unless they got athletic or music scholarships ... they did it academically ...

The curriculum of the new math looks intense I would like to take the course.

The Cultural revolution in China provides insight into what is now taking place in the US. Advanced education to the left is bourgeois, if not counterrevolutionary.

If anything public schools should be teaching more advanced math and science classes. There should also be options for people that do not have the IQ or work ethic to pursue advanced classes.

The dumbing down of America started in the public schools and that is where it continues. After High School kids can then move on to woke colleges and major in subjects that are important such as genders studies.

They also do it by being prepared to buy up all the cheap housing, because they know that the lazy white folk can't be assed doing so and will voluntarily pay rent (ie the landlord's mortgage) for their entire lives.

What the heck was THAT about?

Are you suggesting that some school can't hire teachers that are as smart as the students, teachers that don't know math?

If so THAT is a crisis.

If you can't hire teachers that KNOW the higher math, then attempting to teach it is probably going to fail.

I can barely tell what this means, beyond classes focusing on a specific type of math being offered prior to 11th grade. At first blush, this seems wrong. However, the details of each class are needed to really judge. As an example, there are foundational concepts to algebra that everyone probably ought to learn, and then more advanced aspects of it. Everyone probably should be able to solve a simple linear equation, for instance, but not everyone needs to know the quadratic formula. So if the new curriculum puts the foudnational stuff into the classes leading up to 11th grade, and then anyone who wants advanced concepts can take the accelerated courses during their last two years, I don't see how anything is lost there. But there isn't enough info in the OP to figure out if that's actually the case.

And as DEFinning said, the other garbage speculation in the OP is just nonsensical. You're just throwing out words to rile up those too ignorant or lazy to think beyond the quoted text.

Interesting. Thanks. This is not even slightly what was in the Fox garbage - a continuing problem with accepting ANYTHING from Fox as more than a partisan crap fest.

imho, I doubt the idea that school administrations can pick who will go to college and who won't go to college based on middle school level work product. Kids often wake up academically. Kids can have issues outside of school that can cause serious setbacks that are not indicative of ability.

Dividing kids into buckets like "basic, advanced and college bound" hits me as highly questionable. Whether a kid is "basic" is no reason to block that kid from succeeding in math to the best of his/her ability.

Overall, I'll just have to guess that Virginia is struggling to do its best under ridiculously tight financial constraints - constraints that have left their education system with the task of figuring out how to identify large numbers of kids to NOT teach.

NO real education system is interested in choosing which students to better prepare for college and which students to herd into rooms and leave behind.

Perhaps. But we have all read how the left considers math racist.

The OP well describes the "dumbing down" taking place for political outcomes.

Maoism is pretty well documented. I know people who lived through it. I see parallels.

I have family members and friends who are public school teachers. They see the schools being dumbed down. I think the following is a good essay on the subject.

If you want to actually THINK about what a partisan move might be, maybe you should look at who college graduates vote for.

The idea that Dems don't want to get kids educated is just so totally preposterous as to wonder what in the heck made anyone think that.

BUT, you did answer that question!!!

Most people are liberal coming out of College. As these people gain real world experience and pay increasing levels of taxes opinions often change.

What do you have to say about liberals claiming math is racist?

More and more Fox is getting like the old man on his front porch who is always shouting "I'm a'gin it " in regard to anything from new cars to a cure for cancer, "why in my day we dind need no cures fer anything, we just died like people should when they get sick"

As I pointed out, you and everyone who wants to know the truth can look at the analyses of elections in this and past years to see the tendencies of those who are educated compared to those who are not.

"Liberals" absolutely do NOT claim that math is racist. Surely you know better than that kind of Fox garbage.

This makes much more sense. Virginia is proposing to move towards diversification based on ability. Quite contrary to FOX's narrative.

Huh? Educators are basically telling kids that if something seems too hard, it's OK, just quit and accept that they lack potential. Every child in this country has the oportunity to attend college. Grants, scholarships and loans make it possible financially ... and yes, the dumbing down of college admission standards make it possible even for kids who are academically challenged in math. AOC has a degree in economics for Christ sakes.

This and that ridiculous post you quoted are absolutely absurd. Kids do NOT learn at the same level. Period.

So why in gods name would you force a kid who has already learned the math to continue to sit in the classroom with the kids who don’t understand it? You’re not helping EITHER of them. The smart kids will get mad at the other kids and consider them stupid because they’re holding the smart kids back. The other kids will get mad at the smart kids because they’re answering every question and making the kids look more stupid than they actually are.

Why should the ENTIRE class be held back to the lowest common denominator in the class?

There is literally zero rational justification for doing this. If those kids who don’t get the math (or for the most part dont WANT to get it) need to stay doing algebra 1 while the rest of the students are on geometry, nothing within the current system stops them from doing so or stops the smart kids from excelling. Furthermore if one of those kids in the remedial math wants to get his stuff together and start taking advanced math then he has every ability to do so.

This is one of the most ignorant ideas I’ve ever read.

You forget the dangers of having your likeness attached to a list marking you off as Conservative. I wouldn’t willingly answer any questions from anyone as to who I vote for. Leftists are perfectly fine doxing and destroying those who don’t follow their way. As a young student entering the real world I don’t want to risk my future giving anyone information that could harm me.

And let’s just pretend that college right now is a place where anyone conservative can voice their opinion without being harassed. Hehe. College students don’t even allow conservatives to be invited on campus without rioting. The loud obnoxious few are running the roost.
