Simply: Should Race & Race Relations be taught in schools in any form? No / Yes & why. Moi Support the Dual Wall Solution! Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
Yes. I believe the attitude to race history is similar to Australia’s. Hope that it will just go away if everyone doesn’t talk about it. education is a good step toward understanding and acceptance. massacres of our indigenous people, poisoning of wells and the placement of indigenous children in missions has been swept under the carpet. Abuse and the deaths of many indigenous children has been a horror that wasn’t in history books.
So I see it as valuable to society as a whole if children learn the true history of our country. The enslavement of one race is a part of it. As is the slaughter of another.
Yes, and the history should include slavery and the founding principals that lead to a war to end it in the USA. The Passing of the 13th and 14th Amendments and the public justification for them. School should be an affirming experience for our young. Being critical is fun and challenging for adults. Not kids.
It’s important for kids to learn to think- evaluate and criticise as well, not just to be taught facts.
NO! The time wasted on that could be better served by continuing to focus on unlearning their learned gender identity! (sarcasm, and it pains me to have to add that qualifier 'cuz there's too many people who would AGREE with the statement.)
Thing is...true history also involves courageous pioneering families risking life and limb to build a new life in a new land. It involves massacre and torture of whites as well as massacres of Indians. Is this history going to be true? Or is one side going to be demonized in the classroom??
@Sallyally @Doofenshmirtz Yes It Happened & Is Taught as a matter of history. Do WE really need to ruminate over it? Except Australia and of course Moi No Tax Supported Race/Racism Social Studies! Meanwhile, "they" Watch
The problem is that it's being taught in a way that condemns every white and asian kid in the country. They weren't around during the slavery period. So, why condemn them?
No. It's not. It was taught when I was growing up....during the 60s and 70s. But what isn't politically correct isn't taught. And why stop teaching true history?
Well we shouldn't allow TV to teach our true history. We should teach it objectively and factually in history class.
It is when Critically Race Theory is being taught. The National Teachers Unions want this taught to beat down white people. It's sick! And, to ignore this is even sicker. The parents are waking up to it and now 72% of parents want it out of the classrooms including parents who are black. They see the sickness in this as well.
We learn stuff from the tv too. It influences our thinking and if no other point of view is offered, we will think that is the way things were.
No. That should come later. Certainly not in grade school. Unless the plan is to get them to hate themselves and their country. They need to be past the age of reason (13) so that they can understand the people telling them to be critical? They shouldn't be simply trusted either. Students need to be critical of their teachers as well. I don't think that happens until after 13.
As the post you quoted states, I believe in teaching the TRUE history of our country. That would include both sides.
Not me. Children should be taught to be proud of their country. Its bad enough we have diversity. Teaching some children to resent the other children and these other children to be ashamed of their ancestors is a sure fire way to destroy the nation. Of course that is the point, isn't it?
Its all in the teaching. We shouldn't be afraid of telling the truth about how we all got to where we are. Teaching blind patriotism is teaching them not to think for themselves.
The truth is that intrepid European explorers discovered the New World. Europeans braved harrowing conditions to settle the New World. Fearless pioneers settled the West despite attacks from savages. Hapless Africans were enslaved to pick the cotton. Inventive White Americans industrialized the nation. Brilliant White scientists made amazing discoveries. At the end of WWII the US became the most powerful nation in the world. Children should not be taught to think for themselves. Their brains are immature and empty. The CRT enthusiasts don't want them to think for themselves. They want children to think Whiteness is evil and the system needs to be dismantled.
