I believe blocking people is counterintuitive to political debate so I won’t block anyone. I also think this displays thin skin and an unwillingness for resolve. I was however wondering how many people do block people? So let’s see. And if you do block people maybe say why.
I did for one short period of time. I missed the humor too much and went back. It was spooky without her! !
Yes. I have some people blocked. I usually won't engage with blatant racists, sexists and uncontrolled hatred. I'm neither thin skinned or unwilling to communicate with people I don't agree with. I just find it a waste of energy to interact with people that aren't interested in being honest about their hatred and blatantly ignore anything that refutes their myopic views.
I block trolls and those who lack the basics of honestly and integrity. As far as I am concerned life is too short and time too valuable to waste on those whose only intent is to waste my time. No, I don't miss them and the vacuous content of their posts.
I have maybe 50-60 people on my ignore list. The reasons vary. Trollers/flamers, people who just make pointless replies after pointless, replies after replies (those I think of as time suckers/wasters), a few people I think are stormfronter types, etc. You can think of it as being thin-skinned if you so desire. I prefer to think of it as being more efficient with my use of my time here as a pop in and out throughout the day.
I have some people on ignore but I can't even remember who. And it increases my enjoyment here quite a bit. People only interested in bickering don't qualify as political discussion types.
No one on ignore. Every now and then, someone who normally posts like a second grader actually drops a peanut of wisdom. You can't learn if you wear blinders.....
Nope, never reported anyone or put anyone on ignore. But I have grumbled to myself about members and mods.
There's no badge of honor in not using ignore. You use ignore every day of your life. Picking out a book to read? You've just ignored millions of other books. Are you against hearing from all books? 'Tis but one of thousands of examples where you apply filters in your life to weed out the nonsense you don't have time for. Seriously; some people are simply not worth the time, and it has absolutely nothing to do with their political leanings.
Choosing a book to read doesn't mean you are ignoring other books. All books are valuable, for their particular purpose, and shall be read at their appropriate time. Why do you assume that not using ignore is considered some badge of honor? I(t's no more a badge than saying you do use it. Choices, we all gotz 'em.
I rarely have done this to other posters and if I have, I will let the topic cool and remove them from a block. So why block? When one discovers others inflame them. The person inflamed may end up violating a rule and pay the price for others rudeness or severe maladjustment to life on a forum. I have no person blocked now and have not for a very long time.
I bear no obligation to reply to 100 percent of things said by anybody. Seems you agree. But using the block is not my style.
Limiting one's view is a choice. If someone wants to limit their view, that's their choice. No skin off my nose.
I block people that are not interested in political discussion. They are just here to troll. Sometimes it leads to confusion because you can only see part of a conversation another user is having with the blocked user.
I am rather fond of everyone on this forum. This is a special place. A sanctuary for free speech. The people participate here are inevitably far better informed than the general public. I want to see what they all have to say.
It is beneath my sense of ethics to put anyone on "ignore", because I hate and detest all forms if censorship! Moreover, if I were to put someone on "ignore", I would be clearly telling myself that the "ignored" person had actually gained a victory over me that I could not overcome....
