yep, and he will be held civilly liable, even if it was someone that tried to set him up

if someone tried to sabotage his movie, I hope they are caught

It's SOP to check a gun before pointing it at someone and pulling the trigger. Even if Wayne LaPierre handed it to you and said it was empty, you should check it anyway. In fact, he'd open it and check it with you to be sure. Everyone who handled that gun is responsible. Even the two who were shot should have demanded it be opened and cleared before allowing it to be brought into play.

I started despising Baldwin in 2001 when he didnt leave the US when Bush was elected like he said he would.

Baldwin could face criminal charges too. After all, he’s the one who failed to check the condition of the firearm before pulling the trigger.

Even though it was most likely an accident, someone is responsible. My first thought was that the producer would be, bottom line, "responsible." Oops, turns out Alec Baldwin was also the producer! My friend, who is expert on weapons, says anyone handling a firearm is responsible for making sure it is safe, regardless of who else is supposed to check it. So it comes back to Baldwin regardless. Doesn't matter whether I like him or not.

The director, not producer is responsible for what happens at the scene. Your friend can share his opinion, but he can also be wrong.

he hired a professional to make sure they were safe, thus he did make sure it was safe from his perspective

I do not think he will be held criminally liable, but civilly, yes

Yes. If you are not comfortable with things like cars, airplanes or guns, you hire professional help. Even I hire pros to service my car to make sure things are done properly.

A shooter is always responsible for the safe handling of the firearm. That responsibility can't be delegated to someone else.

So no armorers are needed in film sets as they cannot be held responsible for gun safety?

According to every firearms safety class or training class ever administered. It is the most basic common sense. If the actual user is not responsible, who is?

He may not be facing a murder charge, but negligent homicide is a very real possibility.

I don’t recall any expert being on scene. Only incompetents.

Ok, so there is no law for a situation like that. I didn't think so, which is probably why criminal charges have not been filed. There was no mention of legal liability in the concealed carry class I took. As for the actor, I doubt he has taken a firearms class since he probably never planned to fire a gun with live ammo, and its probably also the reason he hires pros to handle gun safety.

I think a mechanic being responsible for installing correct parts and in the correct way compares to what happened here.

Typically the gun owner is, but in this case an actor is paid to swing fake guns (presumably) around in a movie set, and there is a pro who is paid to make sure the guns are safe.

Only this gun wasn't a prop gun. There is no way you can relieve the shooter from the responsibility to use the firearm safely.

If he was acting responsibly no one would have been killed or injured.

It was a prop gun, and you can scream "murder" all day long, but in the end of the day they have not filed criminal charge. It is what it is.

For the 50th time - any firearm that can fire REAL bullets is a REAL firearm. I realize that this is as complicated as quantum mechanics but I have faith in you...

Yes, they used a real gun as prop guns, although 2 out of the 3 guns they had were inoperational one, but they gave him the one that works, and it had a live round in it. The terms are not mutually exclusive. If they want to file charges, then so be it, but it does not look like a crime was committed.

It was not a prop gun. A prop gun is a gun which is not capable of firing a live round. It was a real gun foolishly used as a prop.

I never once screamed murder you dim-wit. I’ll wait and see how the investigation shakes out. If there’s any charges against Baldwin they would involve negligence on his part.

A true prop gun fires a certain kind of blank round designed specifically for the entertainment industry. Foolishly using a real firearm as a prop doesn’t make it a prop gun.
