I caught COVID in January, and do you know how much it cost me? Not a penny. I stayed home and got over it in a week...
Well they should be paying their own medical costs along with everyone else... thats always been my position. But some people want to socialize medicine and pay the bills for others who make different life/health choices. You shouldn't have to support the unvaccinated for the same reasons I shouldn't have to support people who eat gmo soy and vegetable shortenning instead of meat.
Aren't you lucky; I personally know 9 people (family and friends) who caught it and died with 2 weeks in some cases. They didn't have to worry about paying their hospital bills either.
Does not matter if it is “socialised” or not you still pay for other people. You pay in higher premiums and co pays etc
It's no different than those who choose to stuff their face with a cheeseburger every day and end up having a triple bypass. They are costing the system as well. It's a personal choice. If you want the vaccine, get it. If you don't, then don't. It's that simple...
I pay $50/mo to be a member of a medical co-op. No premiums or co pays. If they raise their rates due to too many people choosing to live unhealthy lifestyles, I can just quit. Thats how 'socialized medicine' works when its voluntary and theres competition. Given that I've only been there twice in the 2 years I've been a member, Its likely Im paying for others who go more frequently. ...but its because I choose to, and I can choose to stop as well.

I eat whatever I want and do whatever I want. I haven't had to go to a doctor or had a hospital visit in over 20 years. I keep a single prescription bottle in my bathroom cabinet, and that bottle is empty and the label says "suck it up"....
That is the issue with Socialism and nationalisation of a healthcare system. Everyone is put in the same pool so everyone else is paying for any single individual's healthcare. In the United States, although it's not entirely true, people would like to think that individuals pay for the costs of their own healthcare. Hmm, tell me, how much do you think it would cost if the private marketplace began to offer special insurance that only covered treatment for the coronavirus? (It's a hypothetical of course since state laws dictate what any form of health insurance has to cover)
Isn't that what people bought the insurance for in the first place? I am aware of an old Russian Jewish story about an insurance company that started offering cheap fire insurance in a village. It was so cheap half the village decided to sign a permanent contract and buy it. It was such a great deal, and the people were so thrifty, they couldn't afford to pass it up. After they had signed the contract and it was too late to renegade on the deal, the insurance company got the village to pass a cumbersome ordinance requiring everyone to keep a big barrel of water right outside their home. It was very difficult for them, since the water froze during the winter and would end up breaking the barrel. These were poor people and it was not such an easy thing for them to afford. Buying the barrel cost almost as much as the insurance premium they had paid. The people complained, but the company said it wasn't fair for them to have fire insurance and not have to take some precautions to help reduce the chance of fire. (Of course the company that had sold the insurance was the same company that started selling barrels to people in the village, after the ordinance was put in place) The people grumbled that they would probably have never bought the insurance if they knew what was going to happen, it wasn't worth it.
Im not real sure what all it covers. At a minimum it covers on-demand visits with a doctor for evaluations and prescriptions (as thats all I've engaged them for). They'll lance a boil, but they won't do brain surgery. So somewhere in between.
You have the freedom to do that. That doesn't mean that everyone else does. We, as a society, really need to stop putting our overlays on everybody else. It's not accurate and it's not helpful.
So… no hospital cover and especially no ICU cover. If I were you I would really really look at my coverage before you end up with a bank breaking bill
