Elon Musk has been named TIME's 2021 Person of the Year, as the one person the company believes has had the most impact — for better or worse — on the world in the past twelve months.

Musk is the second richest person in the world, and has risen in prominence to a household name in recent years thanks to ventures such as his electric car company Tesla, spaceflight program SpaceX and his unfiltered Twitter commentary.

The billionaire from South Africa has dominated headlines in 2021, sometimes triumphant and sometimes in shame.

Well, that sort of makes sense, when you consider what a strange year 2021 was.... It was worlds better than 2020, but I don't think we've had a truly normal year in this country since 2015. And while 2022 should be much better, we'll never return to what I would call normalcy until the deplorables go back in the closet, out of public view.

Nobody can deny Musk is a pretty smart guy and influential in many ways, but he's pretty freaking strange. And both of his key moneymaking efforts are out of the mainstream of America...

I'm mostly impressed with the concepts of Space X and hope it is used more for the good of the country vs the good of Musk's bottom line... And if EV's take off under the Biden administration, he will be seen as a true pioneer. I guess he was going to get this award eventually, so it might as well be this year.

So is Musk's selection for the better..... or the worse?

Will the electric charging stations for electric vehicles be powered by coal or solar? Just curious

And as for SpaceX, it's about to go bankrupt acording to Musk. He's also facing charges for fraud in the case of the Solarwind transactions.

1- I'm not a democrat and 2- I didn't agree with Obama nobel price either.
But Musk is in fact a fraud and he's presently sued in many cases. If it wasn't for government subsidies, none of his companies would still be in business today, even Tesla. I thought conservative were against people living at the tax payer expense...

I don't know why you think he's a fraud. I do agree with the rest of your statement. I don't think that the government should be handing out subsidies in the way that they do. They prop up this guy while punishing that guy. It's quite un-American. However, that seems to be the way the politicians like it. The tax system is how they maintain control. The FairTax system was much better for everyone...except politicians. That's why it was never a serious contender. I will, however, concede that without subsidies, some things that are good for the world would never happen, or at least be severely retarded. I have never liked the way solar tax subsidies haver been handed out but they have spurred on an industry that probably needed to be spurred on. I think it could have been managed better though.

And, just like everything else, he wouldn't even have to make it work! Just saying he invented the thing would be enough!

He litterally took Tesla funds to bail out Solarwind a company he owned with his two cousins... He's presently facing court cases about this and many more. SpaceX is near bankrupcy, according to him thanks to Starlink since he's unnable to produce the required engines for the heavy launcher so he's to use the regular launch rocket and thus has to make more launches. His Starlink project is hemmoraging money when you take into account that the $500 dish cost $1.5k to produce and about 10 to 15% of his first batch of satellite didn't survive the trip and are now space junk. Oh and for those who invested in Tesla, they should've read the fine print since the company has never and never will pay any dividents to its shareholders as specified by the company. In short the stock only exist to build Musk "paper" fortune.

Im surprised they didn’t pick Kamala Harris.
Anyway, who reads Times these days? They are partisan as hell, but, I guess, they at least call themselves a magazine, not a news organization.

I don't see evidence of being a fraud in any of that you posted. Plenty of companies don't pay dividends. Plenty of companies prop up other companies. Plenty of companies hemorrhage money. Having failed projects do not make you a fraud.

See 2020... she certainly didn't do anything this year to warrant back-to-back....

I'm curious....was Time as "partisan as hell" when they picked Donald J. T**** in 2016 or Bushie Jr. in 2004??

They had Pootin as their person of the year not long ago.

That's generally how I roll. It's much better than jumping to conclusions based on what someone thinks.

I did my research, you don't seem to have done so yourself... That's funny coming from someone not wanting to jump to conclusion.

TRUMPIAN LIKE-BULLSEYE AS A NICKNAME: ‘Senator Karen:’ Elon Musk just destroyed Elizabeth Warren.
And btw, comedian Dane Cook, who likely created the Karen meme in 2005, looks rather white (language warning):
