Yeah that was pretty dangerous. There's no other way to look at it. Had they succeded they would have caused all sorts of damage to the democracy. This was a serious wakeup call for what people have been saying for years about Trump's fascist tendencies. He caused this damage, and this damage has not been healed yet.

That's because the federal government had no basis for intervening. State governments did.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that. They don't understand how federalism works. They don't understand how Presidential elections actually work.

Of course the Leftist author of this article didn't get that at all.
For him, it would have been perfectly appropriate for federal judges to intervene, if the election actually had been fraudulent.

He had already met with Pence the day before and Pence said no he did not agree with the advice Trump was getting from his legal counsel as to a constitutional path to have certain state legislatures recertify their slates of electors.

"The last three times a Republican has been elected president -- Trump in 2016 and George W. Bush in both 2000 and 2004 -- Democrats in the House have brought objections to the electoral votes in states the GOP nominee won. In early 2005 specifically, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., along with Rep. Stephanie Tubbs, D-Ohio, objected to Bush's 2004 electoral votes in Ohio. "

Trump and his legal advisers were fully aware of those efforts and were working to see if they could do the same. Should they have, I don't think so. Criminal, and insurrections, a coup, a take over of the government...........hardly.

Jan. 6 was a " dangerously close call"

~ Actually it was more like a staged walk-through where an innocent American citizen was murdered by Capitola police - embellished by the desperate Democrats and " the fake news " media to appear otherwise ...

    Why are you ...?

Remember when rightists were for blue lives matter? Remember when rightists were against violence? Remember when rightists were for democracy?

All that changed when they 100% stood up and support what took place on January 6th.

Ah, another person that is desperately trying to make Babbit a martyr. Sad.

~ Not a martyr, an innocent victim. I would rather see a statue of Ms. Babbit than of George Floyd .

    Do you honestly believe that?

You think a belligerent mob of hundreds of people - none of whom actually even brought a real gun inside the building - is going to overthrow the country?

There here many hundreds more who were mostly just there to protest and did not actually go inside the building. (Although they were sending a very strong message, so I can see how that could be scary to you, or interpreted)

No but I think the military's response was going to determine the outcome of the country's election.

    Are you serious?
If lots of people think like you, then they are unhinged.

Where do you get this stuff?

Did it ever occur to you the news might be trying to intentionally mislead people and blow things hugely out of proportion, because they have nothing else?

No, I’m saying the Left is crazy and accuses Trump of doing EVERYTHING hoping something sticks, because he’s actually done nothing.

They accused him of working for Russia. LIE

They accused him of being racist. LIE

They accused him of raping women. LIE

They accused him of telling people to attack the capital. LIE

    Quid pro quo. LIE

...and the list goes on and on.

I got my stuff from reading about previous coup attempts in Latin America and the role of the military in said attempts. Basically what happens is the military decides one way or the other if the coup is successful. Especially in attempts like this. I mean, think about the military's response to Trump when they lambasted Trump's power grab? And as someone who knew there was going to be violence? Yeah there is a reason to say this is a serious moment.

Nope. It was a fiery but mostly peaceful protest. The lefts hyper focus on it doesn’t seem to be serving them so well lol. The TDS is so real.

Maybe he listened to Democrats in 2016 when they wanted the state's electoral college representatives to go against their votes?

You know the faithless elector ploy that Democrats wanted to enact..... Funny how the memory hole swallowed that up

    How did I do that?

My comment is based on Pence not breaking an oath.

However, if the question was about a different person being VP at the time, then sure, the oath might have been broken. What's the point in pondering that since nobody else was VP at the time? Pence is the constant in the equation.

As I have said many times before on PF and as the quote below demonstrates, extreme hyperbole is a characteristic of modern-day liberals.

"There were many steps along the way where we were perilously close to a complete breakdown, a true constitutional crisis."

The system worked the way they wanted it to work, so what are they whining about? Now that Joe Biden has a track record and the mid terms are on the horizon, liberals appear to be searching for anything that might might deflect attention from Joe Biden.

Here is their problem. As Liberal James Carville once said, "it's the economy stupid." And now the Republican should feel free to appropriate the slogan once used by Clinton.

And we didn’t know what he’d do until he had already done it. Trumps goal was to pressure him or delay it completely.

Innocent victim? Who forced her to join a cult? Who forced her to jump through a broken door in the Capitol? Would you cook her dinner if she did the same to your home?
