Wait, is someone arguing that governments don't have the right to control their own borders?
...and they say Americans don't understand irony.

I suppose if you entirely ignored all the facts, some might believe you. But we have facts, and those facts all demonstrate how petty the little tyrants of Australian government are. How short sighted, how misinformed, and otherwise how malfeasant that government is. But sure, side with pejorative dicks. It is your prerogative...

The 2 primary facts here are that Djokovic (bravely) admitted his application contained a provable falsehood and he's not vaccinated, using suspect medical claims... There are very few relevant facts beyond that...

I would never generally side with a moron like Morrison (decent campaign slogan for the opposition), but I respect what he's trying to do here to keep his generally isolated country safe, even if it doesn't work long term...

He has survived COVID. Meaning he has a provable diagnosis and test result that is now negative for having COVID, which was a requirement for him to travel through Dubai. Or did you forget that part. This is all beside the point though, isn't it.

The federal courts in Australia determined that the actions of the government were inappropriate. It doesn't matter what you think, the court made a ruling. One which one little tyrant decided all by himself to ignore. I think that says a lot about how the government of Australia works. So, you respect that Morrison's allowing his ministers to make choices not supported in the law because...

Oh yes, he's keeping Australians "safe", whatever that means. Ok, from what? Novak is negative. What safety is he providing his people then?

Good one from Bob Costas yeaterday on this situation...

Novak shows "a contempt for common sense"

That about sums it up for me.. why would anybody willingly put themselves through what he is?? All for something a 5 year old can handle (with apparently less crying)..

His attitude of entitlement is the core of his behavior...........His arrogance. .The rules don't apply to him..........in his mind and world. People like him believe they are" untouchable..".

He might be a good tennis player.......but his ego is an obstacle now.

Indeed. He is responsible for his behavior............. But some would prefer to blame everyone else ,including the system...........He knows that some feel this way and play s to them.

Exactly. Mind you, this matter has now, predictably, moved back into an appeals court, with both sides loading up with Queen’s Counsels to argue their sides. The outcome could be quite different to that achieved by EVERY other visitor to the country in this position…

Ooooh! Let him keep running into our famous “Tall Poppy Syndrome”. We are at heart an egalitarian society so hate anyone who thinks they are above the law

You won’t insult us by bagging our PM - he is a liberal in any case (for people overseas a liberal here is a conservative- confusing eh? ) But “Tall Poppy Syndrome” also applies to our politicians so we have no issue with them being insulted and “bagged”

Tyrants? Because they have rules on who can enter the country, and if you don’t follow the rules you don’t get in?

I guess that makes dirty donny bonespurs and all his supporters tyrants. Ok.

Yeah but we still have our idiot politicians that we keep around to spice things up a bit. Surprised I have not heard from Clive Palmer on this one - but that is a blessing so I won’t go looking

Here is a good opinion piece on the entire saga that I think sums up the situation, with some sarcasm thrown in...

Australian immigration officials detain tennis star Novak Djokovic again ahead of visa court battle

Djokovic was taken into custody by the country’s Border Force on Saturday while he awaits a court hearing on the status of his visa. Australia’s immigration minister says the unvaccinated 20-time Grand Slam winner, who traveled from Serbia to play in the Australian Open, is a risk to public health and order because his presence in the country may excite anti-vaccine sentiment.

It's not going to help his chances of getting into France either.
    Macron really dislikes anti-vaxers.
The new players are coming through and Djokovic is coming to the end of his career.
He could well be throwing away his chance of winning a record 21st Slam just because he won't take the vaccine.
