Neil Young threatens to pull songs off Spotify over Joe Rogan: report

We had this "270 doctors" bit on another thread. I guess you missed it. No one claimed they were all doctors. They were doctors, scientists, science teachers, and other medical professionals. I suggest that you research bits like this when they come from Fox. They aren't known for their integrity.

As for Rogan having "more listeners than that guy," ... watch this space. You may not like Neil Young, but millions of music lovers do. Spotify may want to change their policy on giving tin foil hat nut bags like Rogan a platform to spew their hatred.

Again, any English speaker would understand this statement to mean that the world in general doesn't know who he is.

Try some exercises:

"No one is claiming _____, unless you are talking about the world in general." That means that the world in general is claiming ____.

"No one hates radishes, unless you are talking about kids," means that kids hate radishes.

"No one likes snakes, unless you are talking about amateur herpetologists," means that amateur herpetologists like snakes.

"No one willingly jumps out of a plane, unless you are talking about skydivers" . . . any English speaker who has grasped the meaning of the word "unless" gets this.

 

Plenty of people do. He's sold an estimated 75 million records over the course of his career.

 

Young alone won't move the needle. Rogan's fanbase is too big, and Spotify is one of their major channels, as opposed to Young and his fans. I doubt most of them are relying on Spotify to listen to Young. But it could start a movement among other content producers.

NOBODY EVER Claimed that all of the Signees of that Letter were ALL "Medical Doctors".
Thus, any claim asserting "misinformation" based on that point is an Epic FAIL.

That's one of the most beautifully poetic songs ever in popular music. Young wrote it for a Crazy Horse bandmate named Danny Whitten, who died of a heroin overdose the same year the song was released.

 

Um ... not to nitpic or anything, but Neil Young is Canadian, not American. That doesn't make him irrelevant on this issue or any others, but just sayin' ...

 

Including Trump, as he used Rockin in the Free World when he announced his candidacy.

For those who don't like his voice, most don't - but recognize his writing as amongst the best ever written.

With musicians, I just enjoy their music and let them have their politics in the Land of the Free.

Bingo. I've known a lot of conservative Rage Against the Machine fans and a lot of liberal Eric Clapton fans. You can enjoy someone's music without agreeing with their politics.

 

Yeah… because a letter written by doctors in opposition to Joe Rogan’s medical misinformation wasn’t meant to be taken as medical opinions on the matter or not meant to be assumed of a medical opinion. Sure thing there bud. Maybe you need a doctor if you believe that

 

If so, it still is an attempt not of truth or knowledge but an attempt to destroy the idea of free speech. This guy does not have the following of Joe Rogan but he clearly can’t debate nor even attempt to prove him wrong. Just throws his weight like a little child crying for a sucker. He’s trash

 

Free speech does not mean that platforms are obligated to publish your views. And people can object to the sponsorship of dangerous misinformation. That's their free speech.

Great to someone admit such comically obvious ERROR.

At least, it is good to see one admit that they just fired off a random (completely misinformed) statement.
Time to admit that one got owned, and move on.
When everybody at the forum sees that one got owned, it is always best for said person to change the subject and stop digging a deeper hole.
Hopefully, everybody has leaned that lesson.

He is free to do what he wants.
People have thousands of other ways to access Young's Music without Spotify.
It won't hurt Joe Rogan (who just signed a $100 Million Deal) one bit.

When I first heard Neil Young many years ago as a boy I did not like his nasally whiny voice I was very much a political, apathetic politically.

And his politics have not done anything to endear him to me either.

 

On the bright side, certain people's Cultural Horizons have been expanded.

There are many random souls (in the World, who may have wallowed in Cultural Illiteracy) who NOW "know who Neil Young" is.

In furtherance of Cultural Education, I have always loved this lyric:
