According to early tallies, Macron won by more than 6 points. He is now the first French President to be re-elected in 20 years.

Sixteen points! Does that qualify as a landslide?

It was closer than last election. The abstention rate was the highest it has been since 1969, 28%. I'm listening on "France 24", and they're saying that the French are sick of "voting strategically", not liking who they voted for, but doing it to keep the other guy from winning. It sounds like my frustrations over here in the USA. We never get the candidates we want.

Anyways, I think Macron winning was better for France than Le Pen winning, but Macron isn't that great himself.

No. Le Pen father got 18 % in 2002, she got 33 % in 2017 and now 40 %. There is a thing in french policies where most political parties agreed to make a "republican dam" against her parti. But people are tired of that (and I didn't voted for either).
She is a mediocre politician with mediocre arguments, a better politician would have moved out Macron.

Well, they held back the extremists for now. But will it hold?

That's the work of the moderate on people protesting because they had difficulties finishing month. Lost eyes, hands.
The one who hold against the extremists didn't suffered enough apparently.

Only 20? Italian police does something better than that.
I find it odd that among these "samples" there isn't someone from Marseilles.

Dude, trying to just "I just don't like brown people so you should vote for an extremist" is not a good argument.

You should read better, I didn't vote for either of those buffoons. What I don't have any fixation on the color of skin of people. You realize that your argument is even more ignorant when you consider that territories such French Guyane, Guadeloupe and Martinique voted at extreme rates for M.Le Pen. Why ? Simply because globally the vote of M Le Pen against Macron is also a vote of the poor against the vote of the rich, even if the identies policies of Le Pen plays a lot.

There was thousand of wounded. It's just a part.

Macron is garbage. Him winning says a lot about the state of France.

Also in Italy we have seen curious political movements [think to M5S with its direct internet democracy].
The real question is: why do they obtain the majority of the votes? About Italy I can answer that the old Republic was simply too corrupted and that even the new system didn't show to be better. After Berlusconi and Lega, Cinque Stelle came out of the blue and I voted for them ... realizing that they are not different from the others.

So you're saying that the poor sustain the right ... this reminds me when poor rural populations sustained Fascism in Italy in the 20's.

This is excellent news if true. Le Pen's extreme right views and her sugar daddy Vlad connections should give every person inhabiting this world a moment's pause.

I would bet 50% of the population, if polled, would say they despise Macron, and another 20% would say he isn't that great.

Some of the Left is just reluctantly siding with the Center to make sure Le Penn does not win.

But fewer of the Left was willing to vote for Macron this time around. They are sick and tired of him, and the French population is known to be impatient and uppity.

I think it is similar to our situation here in the US. Many who voted for Biden can't stand him, and many more think he isn't that great. They voted for him to make sure that Trump didn't win. It would be awesome if we could get candidates that we truly felt good about voting for.

In France, they actually have parties with real differences, unlike the U.S with one party and two wings.

The only real similarity between the two primary US parties is they both like to spend money. Especially when it comes to the MIC.

"Macron Is Re-Elected as France’s President" is the title of the article.

They're both socialists but Macron was willing to help Ukraine, so I'm glad he won.

IDK. Radical right factions seem to be gaining mainstream momentum in Europe. A "loss" may be a win for them at the rate they are normalizing their message in the minds of electorate.

Probably good he won. You wouldn't want the mujahadeen to burn down Notre Dame again in protest...

They’re exactly the same. They both just pander to a different part of the population. Neither really care about their electorate beyond their ability to harvest their vote and steal their energy (money). They know exactly what buttons to push to enrage their base so that they stay focused on the other party instead of the puppet masters pulling their strings.

Macron did not want or did not try to stop the occupation of Islam on France.
Good luck French .. May Allah be with you :hiding:

Correct. Putin is unhappy so Billy is unhappy.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Macron, but he is light years better than the spawn of Fascists & collaborators. Europe can breathe easy for a while.

It sounds as if you haven't followed American politics very closely, for the last decade or so, especially not in recent years. The Trump party, here, has a lot in common with Le Pen.

I doubt that "many" who voted for Biden would go so far as to say that they "can't stand him," though many did vote for Biden, just to vote against Trump.

How would you suggest we might "get," the type of candidates, to which you refer? Also, could you describe your idea, as specifically as possible, as to what these candidates would be like, how they would differ from our current politicians?
