Kindly cite where I or anyone here has ever stated, suggested or implied that lethal weapons should be issued to children. Ever. For that to be your conclusion says a great deal more about you & your ilk than it does about me & mine. There are currently several dozen school districts in the US who have armed teachers/staff on campus. Polk County Fla. Sheriff Grady Polk is one of the pioneers of that initiative. Teachers/staff who volunteer must submit to exhaustive background checks, including psych evals. Then undergo intensive training, aspects of which are more rigorous than even his own deputies have to go thru.

Don’t you wish there had been teachers/staff at Uvalde who had been so equipped & trained? If not, why?

I'm a resident of NYC. If some are to be believed, the city's a very dangerous place, with all manner of crime taking place uncontrolled. Curiously, I've never felt the need for any form of self-protection at home nor when I'm out and about in my nabe and the city at large. At 88 years of age, I'd qualify as a prime target, again according to the same alarmists. I must admit to having difficulty placing myself in the shoes of someone who feels he/she must go about armed. I cannot generate that level of fear about my surroundings.

plenty of countries do not have second amendments (South Africa, Mexico etc) yet criminals are heavily armed.

 

well heroin and crack are not constitutionally protected, yet overdoses kill far more people each year than AR 15s do. I agree with your comment but I note that even if gun ownership was treated the same as owning fentanyl , criminals would be selling and buying the stuff easily

 

You're right, which is why most all gun control laws are based on the AVAILABILITY of guns.

 

Which leaves us wondering why you think someone willing to break one of the highest laws we have with committing murder is going to care at all about any lesser gun law you can dream up

proper gun control laws punish people who use guns to harm others or use guns in a reckless fashion that is likely to harm others. Improper gun control laws harass honest people with malum prohibitum nonsense that doesnt' do a damn thing to further restrict criminals

1) people who never have used their firearms to harm others, have to have more of their rights infringed upon so they won't do what they never have done and

2) those who disobey laws against murder and armed robbery will obey gun control laws

Liberals are angry about this story and the Illinois one where a woman with a gun in her purse saved people from a shooter at an outdoor birthday party. These stories show that the way to stop a bad person with a gun is with a good person with one.

 

But we would not all simply submit to that.
