How is celebrating the racist traitors who waged war against our country "healing"? Which other fascists enemies would you like us to idolize?

Discussion is moot. The judge has reversed his own ruling. The statue is being dismantled.

Healing is great. But apparently that monument - even if it was seen as healing for some - also opened old wounds and was offensive to others. To be honest I don’t have any opinion about this particular monument one way or the other. I just recognize that some things age better than others. And if a statue or monument doesn’t reflect current values, there shouldn’t be a problem to move it to somewhere more appropriate.

If on the grave of the designer isn't appropriate, where is?

So one public location was bad but the other public location is good? It does seem kind of in poor taste to put a death memorial in a military school. Is that to warn the future soldiers of what is to come?

It's moving to the New Market State Battlefield on land owned by the Virginia Military Institute. Whatever makes the automatonophobia karens happy I guess.

They should tear down aushwitz because definitely removing the historical physical elements does nothing to "moving on" and forgetting history. Certainly then, nobody will forget and repeat themselves.

Any Hitler statues there? How will they know what they’re trying to remember otherwise?

    Point is, history is history.

Attempts to erase it is silly and doesn't solve anything EXCEPT protecting fragile emotions of some people.

Replace them with union monuments. How can anyone claim that’s erasing history??
Why aren’t any Sherman monuments in the south? Are they emotional snowflakes?

So how many generations under the Confederacy's objections are forgot? How long until the Civil War is just statues of war heroes that never apparently fought a war?

And yes, any statue of Hitler that stands outside aushwits should remain to continue to disgrace his legacy.

I think my biggest problem with erasing the Confederacy from history is that there are aspects of their desire for war that I agree with. Some of the reasons for their desire for succession were valid. I don't really prefer that their agenda be totally forgotten as I think much that they feared has come true and that's not a good thing.

We don’t need statues of the losers to remember who we fought lol
Quick, who did we fight in the war for independence? Do you need a statue or can you figure it out?
At least you admit your sympathy for their cause is your main objection, most won’t.

So... in summary, it's not being put "in a military school". That's all I wanted to see, because that would be as inappropriate as where it was...

Yep it is. But then again, comparing the two is stupid to begin with. Stupid questions/statements deserve in kind responses. Hitler statues were taken down when they hadn't even been up even 20 years. Not what most would consider "historical". Most Confederate statues on the other hand have been up over 100 years. The National Register of Historic Places requires at minimum 50 years for something to be considered historical.

I don’t care. Replace the loser monuments with winner monuments. That way Republican don’t forget the war, or who won.

There are statues of the winners. And no one is trying to deny who won. But lefties sure are trying to pretend that slavery was the only reason for secession. And trying to re-write history to match.

Save your strawman for someone else. I don’t care if they rebelled because they didn’t like Abe’s beard. If the south cares about history let them build some Sherman monuments down there.

No strawman required. The evidence of such is in this very thread.

Doesn't matter whether you care or not. What matters is whether or not the history we have is accurately told, and shown, to our kids so that the same mistakes are not repeated.
