Should It Be Illegal To Swear In Public?

The idiotic government here is passing laws that would make it illegal to swear in public.

This is an invasion of our free speech. If I want to swear in public, I should be able to. Its like I swear when I don't need to, but if I trip over or stub my toe, of course I'll swear.
We live in a nanny state!

For one, 400 teens came to protest...that's funny.
Not sure how you can enforce such law though. Wait and see?
While I think profanity is horrid, surely we have more serious problems, wherever we might find ourselves.

That law won't pass and it sure wouldn't here in the states....

But personally, I think it would be very refreshing if some people grew enuf brain cells to figure out how to express themselves w/o always using vulgarities ......I walk down the street and the air turns blue with .....$!@&(F#!!%F*^$*G*DF#%!!$#! and the people aren't even arguing....

Then there's the little kids who repeat what their foul-mouth parents say....

Dr Richard Stephens at Keele University has done a study.

I believe it was published in NeuroReport.

 

I imagine it helps women in childbirth.

I was in childbirth 3 times and no, didn't screech out vulgarities during the gawdawful pain....... I just plain ... screamed, I guess - according to my husband......

Believe me, screaming out !%!@!F&#*!^@!!! would NOT have lessened that pain...... no way........

 

Well, apparently the study shows that swearing is good for helping with pain...I won't argue with that!

I think the idea is that swearing takes your mind off the pain for a moment, so you don't feel it as much.

 

A lot of 'scientific' studies says a lot of stupid stuff ...some people will believe it b/c they want to - others don't b/c they know better......

The best thing to do to relieve pain and it actually works to a degree is not to fight the pain, but making yourself relax, taking deep breaths as often as you can. It does help......
