Not a couple of hundred people, not a couple of thousand people but hundreds of thousand of people are protesting throughout Israel to demand more social justice from their government.

This is quite marvelous indeed since it fits in the larger movement of the awakening our citizenry from Chile to Egypt, and from Israel to Spain. This is quite extra-ordinary!

    Power to the people!

It's time again for the Left to seize power through elections in our brilliant Israel, so sanity can return! The extreme-right has brought this country to the edge of total and utter disaster!

    It's time for common-sense and public-orientated solutions!

    Raus!

Except its not an attempt to overthrow the government in any way, nor is it violent.

A left wing government means weaker military and ultimately the destruction of Israel and a new holocaust.

Just fetch them a bone and promise more and affordable housing and cheaper education ( try to aim for education with a future like tech or IT...)

Good post.. the Israeli politicians have manipulated the public for years with the threat of another holocaust. I am happy to see the people call BS on that tactic.

It is wonderful to see so many people fighting to bring their country on the right track, regardless of the many odds facing them. We can only hope that they will succeed in bringing more power to the people.

Do you have a link to support this odd conspiracy theory? It would seem to me as if you are trying to stir up unnecessary fear with the belief that only such can maintain the power of a right-wing regime. Is it thus so that people vote right-wing when they are paranoid of the unknown extremes?

The concerted long term effort by Bibi and his cronies to eliminate social spending in Israel has finally come to a head.

The people are no longer convinced that they must sacrifice their well being for safety from Islamist terror. They now see their sacrifice for what it really has become, a vehicle to transfer wealth to a few from the many.

Do you think it's wise to let people know who you are? I suggest a little more restraint at this time Dr Xavier.

first of al' I am an Israeli
I did not read the whole conversation but you know, the protest does not address the left or right ... everyone takes part in the struggle. I can not believe that the protest will bring peace .... unfortunately :(

The aim of the protest is that the government will treat citizens and monopolies as equals and lowers the high prices in comparison with countries in Europe.

I did not understand how it is related here, we
(The ordinary citizens and working class) are protesting against the price inflation in the prices of basics like food and housing prices, which soared, and this is a big issue for young people
What you mentioned that our government's duty to protect us and fortunately and luckily they do it very well, and that the majority of military work and less of government (majority decision-making by both the military and ministers in the Knesset)
Unlike the defense, only the government can help us regarding the price increases - to enact and enforce laws .....

How is the housing situation in Tel Aviv different from the situation in New York, Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Madrid and elsewhere?

Personally I support the protests, they are peaceful and orderly, they are social and economic in nature. I resent the attempts of the anti-zionist thugs to hijack these protests and pretend that they have anything in common with their anti-Israel agenda and their futile campaign to delegitimize Israel. The overwhelming majority of protesters are patriotic Israelis who want better living standards in democratic jewish Israel, they would not spit on these Israel haters if they were on fire.

They are also not fanatical Zionists who would sacrifice everything for the defense of the state. Basically they are tired of being abused by Bibi's agenda of slashing social programs in the name of national defense. They are tired of the war, tired of the sacrifice, tired of the Zionist corruption malfeasance intransigence and fear mongering They want peace and prosperity now.

What a bunch of baseless wishful thinking nonsense and a perfect example of an attempt to hijack the protests, just as I described in my previous post.

The overwhelming majority of them will sacrifice everything including their lives for the defense of the state. Their issues have nothing to do with national defense and are purely social and economic - inflation, prices, jobs, redistribution of wealth. Their issues are absolutely identical to the issues of working people anywhere else in the Western World - the UK, France, America, Spain, Italy etc.

Stop trying to fool anyone, more importantly stop trying to fool yourself.

It is one thing to defend a state under attack, it is quite another to defend a state that is the attacker. The people of Israel will move as one to defend their state but they are not so monolithic when it comes to the current state of affairs where many in Israel no longer see their nation as a victim but an aggressor.

The protesters are fed up, fed up with a declining standard of living foisted upon them by rabid Zionists whose belligerent intransigence to finding peace has become the primary reason for the need to spend so much on defense. Unlike the Zionists many in Israel are ready to move beyond 1948.
