Middle/Near Eastern country that UK and US wants to invade accused of having Chemical weapons.

    How original.

This time the case is even weaker than for Iraq. If thats even possible. The sole "evidence" of their acquisition of CW is, as it was for Iraq, the British propagandists. The Guardian, to be precise, pointing to a blatantly deliberate presupposition in an announcement by some bloke that no-ones ever heard of, called "Jihad".

The Guardian claims that he made this announcement on "Syrian state TV". Which already raises eyebrows, because his statement is in English.

So, the entire case for invasion rests on one patronizingly obvious deliberate presupposition, by a bloke called "Jihad" Makdissi. Here is his Wikipedia article:

    Jihad Makdissi
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search

Jihad Makdissi (Arabic: جهاد مقدسي) is the Foreign ministry spokesman of the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad [1].

Brilliant. So he really must be real. Not some impostor from the Syrian resistance, reading a script written by US (or British) psyops personnel, to help bring the US and UK into its ump-tieth invasion.

You guys in America have guns, right? Do us a favor and shoot anyone who actually falls for this horse-(*)(*)(*)(*)?

Yep, the propaganda hysteria is being ramped-up again. And the gullible will fall for it again, just as they did with Iraq.

Its looking that way, isnt it Snakestretcher? And even before the invasion of Iraq, I did wonder how such ignorance on the part of so many people was possible. Of course, if people believe the BBC for example, then they can be lead to believe anything.

After starting this thread, I wondered, what would a google image search yield for our friend Jihad Makdissi?

Well as it turns out - and it might or might not interest you to do this yourself, with his name in quotes - a google image search does yield photos/screenshots of the same guy that The Guardian shows in their video. He is almost certainly the same guy. Because in every one of his photos, he is speaking at the same podium!

To his right there is a Syrian flag (I think), and behind and above him, a bronze crest or ensign belonging to the French government. And despite that he appears in photos wearing three different suits, in each picture, he is still in front of the same French ensign!

I think what Im trying to say is...

    HEY, HEY JIHAD... OOH! ALLAH! I WANNA KNOW - O - O - O O - O - O, IF YOURE ASSADS GIRL.......

Russia joined the WTO just yesterday, after the longest time from request to acceptance of any member country. The date in particular is curious - just a day after Obama introduced the possibility of invading Syria.

The WTO and US foreign affairs have a mysterious but tangible connection. That other Shanghai Cooperation Organization member, China, joined the WTO exactly 2 months after the WTC was destroyed.

Id be interested to know if the two events are connected - that is, Russias accession, and Obamas theoretical goahead on Syria. Its almost as if Russia, who does not support an invasion, was given membership in exchange for letting it proceed. My evidence is circumstantial of course, and Id like to know if anyone can add more.

I was thinking about moving my stockpile of summer compost from behind a big palm tree, to spread it on my flower beds this weekend.

I wonder how the White House analysts would interpret it.........................?

with concern, with grave concern, a highly provocative act, a red line, destabilizing the region..................

Of course Syria has chemical weapons - it probably also has biological weapons. It is one of six countries that has NOT signed the Chemical Weapons Convention, and since people appear to like Wikipedia as a source:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syria_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

On July 23 of this year the Syrians admitted they had chemical weapons and threatened to use them if they were attacked by any coalition of Western powers:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jul/23/syria-chemical-warfare-threat-assad

It is true that the Syrians also said they would never be used on their own citizens, but they have consistently characterized the rebels as terrorists manipulated by outsiders, so they have a rhetorical fig leaf to hide behind if they have grown desperate enough to seriously consider using WMDs in the civil war.

So, when's your country invading Syria? There are hysterical, unsubstantiated claims circulating on the Internet that you want to invade.

You can continue to close your eyes, like all your "pro Arab" friends here, and claim nothing is happening in Syria.
Oh, Its just rain, not rivers of blood.

Don't be absurd...... It is rivers of blood and Assad is too stupid to step down... or it may just be too late at this point.

He certainly is a strange one.. Did you see his interview with Barbara Walters.. He was strangely detached as if on valium.

What is it with these people and their false dichtotomies, ALL of the time..?

You are this or you are that, if you are that, you must be the other, it goes on and on, and it all BS.

    'Pro Arab'...

A totally meaningless statement, with no context, whatsoever.

    What does it even mean?

In actual practice...and who decides...and so what anyway?

Anyone honest can see this is no a 'true' civil war.

It's cool, Margot, I know what you view is on this, but let's just say, there are is more than one way to gain a dominion over a country, for whatever motive you may have. The one we all think of is like an invasion and occupation, doesn't need to be that way, that way can be the most costly, and cause the public glare to fall firmly upon you. Another way is to create an artifical civil war, this is not so hard to do, if the environment and timing is right. In this type of 'civil war', the supposed 'rebels' are not fighting for a different/better future for their people, they are, by proxy, merely pawns of a third party benefactor.

Libya was a classic example of this, the so called 'rebels' were a cabal of murderers, extremists, and terrorists to be honest, (yes Margot, know your view here too), but Gadaffi had popular support there, it was the 'rebels' who were the minority, and they were used as a proxy.

Gadaffi was really just the bogeyman for those with a short attention span.

Useful cover so that they could gain control over their central bank, steal their gold, and so on.

IMO Assad has already done enough to his people to warrant a NATO mission. Unlike Saddam, Assad is actually attacking his own people. Also unlike Saddam we are not even THINKING about going in to attack Syria without full NATO support.

Are you suggesting that the global media do that on purpose, old bean?

But that would mean the global media would have to be beholden to Jews and Israel, and as we all know, that is not true, and, even were it so, there would be nothing wrong or dangerous in a highly etno centric people dominating global media.

After all - it is not like they would lie or anything.

Guess what? There's a big wide world out there beyond those two little patches of land in the Levant. If you need to obsess over Israel, you'll find no shortage of threads here to indulge your appetite...
