Romney's Latest Lie, His Former Lies, and Why We Must Not Put Liars in the White House

    By Robert Reich | HuffPost | 10/30/2012 4:26 pm
    Excerpts:

“Over the weekend, Romney debuted an ad in Ohio showing cars being crushed as a narrator says Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job."

In fact, Chrysler is retaining and expanding its Jeep production in North America, including in Ohio. Its profits have enabled it to separately consider expanding into China, the world's largest auto market.

Responding to the ad, Chrysler emphasized in a blog post that it has "no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China."

"They are inviting a false inference," says Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania and an expert on political advertising.

This is only the most recent in a stream of lies from Romney. Remember his contention that the President planned to "rob" Medicare of $716 billion when in fact the money would come from reduced payments to providers who were overcharging - thereby extending the life of Medicare? (Ryan's plan includes the same $716 billion of savings but gets it from turning Medicare into a voucher and shifting rising health-care costs on to seniors.)

Remember Romney's claim that Obama removed the work requirement from the welfare law, when in fact Obama merely allowed governors to fashion harder or broader work requirements?

Recall Romney's assertion that he is not planning to give the rich a tax cut of almost $5 trillion, when in fact that's exactly what his budget plan does? Or that his budget will reduce the long-term budget deficit, when in fact his numbers don't add up?

And so on. "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers," says Neil Newhouse, a Romney pollster.

There are two lessons here. First, lies financed by deep pockets are hard to refute, but they must be refuted. Otherwise, there is no accountability in our democracy.

Second, anyone who tells or countenances such lies cannot be trusted to hold the highest office in our land, because he has no compunctions about feeding false information to the public."
    ....

    * Robert B. Reich, Chancellor's Professor of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley, was Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration. Time Magazine named him one of the ten most effective cabinet secretaries of the last century. He has written thirteen books including the bestsellers "Aftershock" and "The Work of Nations." His latest is an e-book, "Beyond Outrage," now available in paperback. He is also a founding editor of the American Prospect magazine and chairman of Common Cause.

    .....

If Romney were to become our president, how can we be sure when he isn’t lying? He has no compunction about, and feels no need to apologize for his lies. He leaves his aides to try to rationalize the best they can, as he moves on to produce the next lie.

We are now witnessing the desperation of an mentally obsessed man to gain the White House no matter what it takes because Romney believes that he is duly qualified by being a corporate raiding vulture, a Mormon ex-Bishop that lies alot, and that somehow makes him an excellent candidate for the presidency of our great nation.

I think Romney truly believes he is God's anointed messenger and that he must lie to get gullible republicans to vote for him.

    .....

I'm no Romney fan either... but please give a credible link purporting to any "liar in the White House."

As a gut instinct, I would judge your reply as needless, wasteful bandwidth filling.

Just as a side note, Robert Reich was the first person I remember floating the idea that the federal government should take over all 401K type of savings should be taken over by the federal government. Just saying this guy is obviously a nutcase that doesn't mind showing his idiocy.

So liberals are going with the liar we know over the potential liar we don't? Interesting strategy this late in the game...

Obama promised to close Guantanamo Bay, he has not.

Lied about not raising taxes on $250,000 and under households.(Obamacare and inflation)

Lied about being the most transparent President

Lied about not allowing lobbyists slipping corporate welfare into laws

Obama said he didn't want the indefinite detention provision in the bill, when in fact, he requested it stay in there.

He's also asserting executive privilege to hide Fast and Furious details.

I could go on, but I think you get the point. As a gut instinct, I'd say you're a waste of space.

What is happening is Pure Stalin Politburo.Romney speaks Truth to Power
so what is an Administration to do who has basically done little besides
LIE to the American People.Accuse { Projection } the opposition or Romney
as being a Liar. Here's the deal Folk and the giveaway. When a Real professional
and I take it a former Cabinet officlal like Professor Reich still qualifies, they
don't as a rule EVER as in even once come out and accuse their opposition of
using Lies and being Liars. It's now common practice since Liberalism
has struck Gold with new degree of Smearing. It is PURE ADULTERATED PROPAGANDA.
Just Reassure the Populace what Romney says is all a pack of Lies and let the Real
Liars Like Obama and his Jokers off nearly scott free.Obama LIES every single day.
Yet do Republicans gang-up,pile-on and tear about like hyena down to his bones.
They do not.Yet that is exactly what Liberals and Robert Reich DO when they feel
    they've found a Romney achilles' heel.It's disgusting.
Those who defend constantly Obama are the real animal/hyena here.
It's not even close. We've been innoculated and conditioned to accept Obama Lies,
and if Romney says something off the cuff or in an Ad that isn't 100% Pure silver
he's attacked by the Leech People.
You know who you are ... Leeches.Removing the sanity from Politics.

I think Obama truly believes he is God's/Allah's anointed messenger and that he must lie to get gullible democrats to vote for him.........

See how easy that is? The SAME EXACT THING can EASILY be said about Obama .... what the hell is wrong w/you? Obama clearly lied to get in the WH, from promising we'd 'have the most transparent presidency in history" which of course, never happened! To dozens of other lies he's told to the recent slaughter of 4 Americans in Behghazi....

"We must not put liars in the WH"....GEEEEZ They ALL lie! Some worse than others and Obumma is definitely one of the worst!

    Liberalism ..... stupid! stupid! stupid!

Is there any dumber arguenemt then defending blatant lying by one person because someone else lied. How does Obama being a liar make Romney lying something to defend?
