Is this legal.Where Unions { Teamster volunteer } are panning the
streets of Cleveland with Vans with the signage Vote Van.
Picking up apparently anyone to take to vote.
Frankly this is what I was afraid of.That is Carousal Voting.
Exactly what Putin did in Moscow to Win his Election.
This from MSNBC just minutes ago with less than an hour to go before
polls close. This reported from John Nichols { Radical leftie } from some election
Headquarter in Cleveland. He gave this info because he was asked why
    the place was so vacant.

Perfectly legal and an awesome way to get the handicapped, elderly and homeless to the polls.

Obviously not awesome to someone who doesn't want the handicapped, elderly and homeless voting. These people have no shame.

As far as I know this is perfectly legal. As long as they aren't pressuring people to vote for a particular candidate.

So what, the poor without vehicles, the elderly that can't drive, the handicapped that cant' get around dont' get to vote now? Nowhere in the world except demented right wing America is actual kindness confused with cheating the system. Oh that's right, since religious organizations have given up on their duty to help the poor and needy, instead we simply have to tell them all that they are worthless and shouldn't exist at all, let alone have a voice in this election. It's not my fault that your party has aliented and abused and oppressed that lot of people so long that wouldn't vote for you in a millenium. Maybe if your party platform had one ounce of empathy or one iota of selflessness in it, you might benefit from people that are in need. Of course, we know that will never happen in this world.

Don't see a problem. So along as they're not voting inside the vans themselves, getting people to the polling place, it's fine by me.

    Talk about shame.
You actually use the name of the "homeless" to try and portrait a group as being mean and cruel?
I doubt you have the slightest idea of what goes on with homeless people.
If you did you wouldnt say such an ignorant thing about homeless people voting.

If you are really concerned about them then why dont you come join us on fridays when we take a van downtown and hlep them out with various issues, in downtown San Diego.
And dont try to come up with some bogus story about how you help the homeless. If you do, you can tell me what the number one thing homeless people ask for when vans show up with help.

OUTSTANDING! The best post I have seen for awhile. I could sit here and rattle off all the REPUBLICANS from the past who would be shocked at this kind of cold hearted rhetoric, but I need to mind my blood pressure.

Yea, life is reall black and white. All libs have hearts of gold, republicans dont want anybody voting unless they are white middle aged men, and all churches have completely given up on all forms of charity. Yep, got it. I guess you must be quite young,

I'm critical of our fellow Americans who openly advocate for leaving the very people you help to starve in the streets and you attack me? I'm glad you do what you do. I've spent a large part of my adult life working for social and economic justice, often with people with church affiliations. You must know that the only real answer is for the state to care for those who are incapable of caring for themselves. The problem has outstripped the ability of private charity to cope with it.

yet you have no response to the original posts claims

Exactly what Putin did in Moscow to Win his Election.

though to be honest- I have no idea what 'Carousal Voting' is- it must be bad since Putin did it.....and someone is driving a van around offering to take voters to the polls...

I find this nauseauting. The abject SOLICITING of those to Vote.
Talk about going back to the days of Old Chicago and Buying votes.
With the price of gas,and possible further enticement once in the VAN VOTES
    vehicle,no doubt.
Does anyone think that once in the Van,Electioneering isn't active.
I wonder what both Parties think of this.
I hope the Republican Party discourages this activity even if somewhat
    legal.

It's not somewhat legal. It IS legal. It's no different than carpooling with your friends to the polls.

You know they also go door to door and ask them if they voted yet. And they most likely skip houses with signs they don't like. That is also legal.

These vans may or may not have good motives. Im extremely skeptical, but cant say for sure.
ANyone who brings in the homeless is a jack ass. Homeless dont vote. It has nothing to do with them

As for charity not being able to help the homeless, they can and would except as govt has grown and our pct of income goes to taxes, we give less to charity.

When govt helps the homeless it isnt nearly as effective as charity. If at all. Many things the govt does just makes it worse.

Homelessness has grown because of govt policies.
When reagan let all the "nuts" out of hospitals, its because the ACLU sued the govt and won, the court said people cannot be held in a mental hospital against their own will if they are not a violent threat to themselves or others.

The streets became flooded. Everything the govt does makes the problem worse.
In San Francisco, the beautiful brilliant liberals there decided they had the way to end homelessness, they gave out all kinds of goodies to the homeless there, and guess what? The homeless population tripled, people couldnt go anywhere in
downtown without getting harrassed by homeless people, they were deficating on sidewalks.
Now, they have to have even more stringent anti homeless rules and city ordinances down there now than any other big city.

I've seen plenty of liberals who "help to right the injustices to the homeless and the poor", and its usually they are just stroking their own ego.

When you can tell me you have driven in areas of homelessness and helped people to hospitals and got vomit all over you on the way, when you can tell me you know WHY we have so much homelessness, and when you can tell me the most favorite thing you can take someone who is homeless, then you can tell me you really care.

The reason I asked about that "one" thing they want most is because only those who are out in the war zone know the answer.

One last caveat, women and kids should never get too closely involved, and all homeless people should be viewed at very skeptical in many ways. A huge percentage of them are vile, violent, ex cons, pedophiles. Many are mentally ill. Some have hit bad times. Many are men who cant pay their child support and have had to go underground.

If you really want to help, go to a local Alano club, AA, and most have , at Christmas, go out and give lots of stuff to the homeless.

Let me ask you this...you have four items. Jacket, new price $150 McDonalds coupons worth $150 Bag of brand new socks woth of $150, which do you think they will want?

None of us have nearly enough details to make any kind of a decent opinion on this.

Whether its legal or not can get into some very very gray areas.

We really dont have enough details to know what is true in this case or similiar ones.
It could just be a legitimate good deed by some people, or it could be some evil vile people who are trying to buy and coerice votes. We just dont know.

I do know I hope I have enough money in four years to go pay those black panthers a visit at that polling places. I know a few navy seals down here in san diego that are all fired up to go with me.
