OK, so, if no one in this discussion has said it, and, in fact, it's not even stated in the OP that this is a hate crime, just that there are investigators who specialize in hate crimes (however you do that) working on the case, I fail to see your point...

another reason hate crime legislation should be thrown out the door. i dont care whether or not this is a "hate crime" , but i just hate the legislation because it states that one killing is more important than the other simply because of who got the axe. this crap is just another thing that divides us. simply put your childs death is not more important than another childs death because he or she was "enter color here" and the killer was "enter color here" . in both instances the child or adult is dead and making a racial issue about it isnt gonna make it any better.

murder is murder and it should be treated equally, because honestly both people are equally (*)(*)(*)(*)ing dead.

 

Yes, investigators. This hasn't even been labeled as a hate crime by the NYPD. You really don't think there could be a racial or even religious motive behind this? What, the guy just doesn't like shopkeeps? Give me a break!

Identifying a class of crimes as hate crimes, seems to give more towards motive rather than sentencing, hence providing an investigative lead. Certainly while they are in the unsolved state. Should these crimes be solved, someone arrested, found guilty, should their motive be considered for sentencing, today it does in most courts. I am not judging the legal weight, just reviewing the process.
