I'm having a problem for the last 4 months. I've been to the chiro. I have nerve pain going down my back. down to my lower back and on my butt. The pain goes down to the back of the leg and my calf cramps up sometimes. I went to the doc, he said it was sciatica. Im taking meds, I hate them. I don't believe in meds, but I have no choice. the pain from 1-10 is 8 right now. I been going to physical therapy for the last 2 weeks. I feel fine at times at others I can't sleep, walk, dance or even have sex. I feel like i'm dying. will it take a miracle? I just emailed my doc for some crutches. I've tried talking to God about this, but he's not talking back to me. Maybe he's mad at me about something. Just wanted to let you all my situation. it's my right leg, lower back. its getting tougher to work and live day by day. Pray for me...God bless.

I feel for you jedimiller. I have had back problems since my early 20s. Surfing and playing Rugby is the cause. Now in my middle age I have days when my back is sore. Luckily it's muscular and not structual. My muscles around L3 sometimes go into spasm, my butt aches all the way down my left leg. I have these maybe three of four episodes a year and they last a few days. Anti-inflammatories work great as does asprin.

I'm quite fit. Keeping my weight under control through a good diet and exercise which helps. I've been this weight for over 30 years.

I had my sciatic nerve in my knee play up last year. My whole right leg was agony. I hadn't ever been in so much pain in my life and I was about ready to chop my leg off.
Are the meds pain relief? It sounds like you need better relief - what does the physio do? You need a good massage, to loosen the knots in your back and leg.
Have they offered you a CT scan to find out exactly what is going on in there?

Mak,,Sciatica is very cruel. It is usually caused by one of the Sciatic nerves being pinched or irritated in the lower back. I get this occasionally and I hobble around for a few days. Asprin seems to help me a lot. Also if it's really bad, a few times a year, I get a massage. It's more of a gentle rub than a massage, which helps to relax the nerves.

Where I go, most of the masseuse are blind people who have been trained by a NGO in remedial massage. I walk out feeling good.

You won't die from sciatica. Frequently having slipped discs myself that totally immobilize me at times, I feel for you though. But don't worry: God is always with you, even if you don't notice.

Modern medicine may alleviate your symptoms, but it won't help you get laid.

A second opinion may be in order.

If you're not married, maybe He's trying to tell you something.

If He is, do you think He would hesitate to let you know?

Sorry to hear that Jedi, that really sucks. I have been dealing with some ongoing physical pain myself for a little over a year now (plantar fasciitis) but that's probably nothing compared to what you're going through.

I hope you are able to manage the pain a little better, you might want to see another physician and maybe try some different meds? Not sure what else to tell you. Dealing with paying for medical stuff and insurance companies is a pain in and of itself so it's no wonder you might not want to run around getting every doctor's opinion out there. =(

I wish you the best of luck in getting through this!

I have severe pain in my lower back, hips, and legs. No diagnosis for about 3.5 years, and I was on a cane for 3 of them. I'd been to the University of Michigan Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, 2 dozen private practitioners, etc... My doctors had given up on getting me a diagnosis. Eventually, it got so bad that I had to be hospitalized, and Dilaudid was the only thing that could control the pain. Took them 2-3 weeks in the hospital, but I got a diagnosis. They said that my case was so bad that no treatment should help me at all, and I was probably going to need a new hip within a year.

That was last February. Now, I am off my cane (and have been for almost 6 months), nearly pain free (so long as I don't overdo it), and I can work out again for the first time in 4 years. They are saying my hip could last another 20 years.

I know it is tough right now, and I know this isn't a great answer, but a lot of the time it has to get much worse for it to get better. It seems so bad now that you can't imagine it being worse, and when it does get worse, you will wish for the times like right now. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It will get better.

As far as advice goes, part of the problem tends to be with which specialty you go to. I was seeing Neurologists (Haemoncologists, GPs, etc...) for the most part, and my problem was Rheumatological. The other thing that really helped me was that I have a great PCP, who coordinated with all of my doctors and kept me a priority while I was in the hospital. If you have a good PCP, have them find you some good specialists to see. If you don't have a good PCP, find one. Most important thing you can have right now.

I didn't lose my faith, though. Keep yours with you. It'll give you strength, and hope. I consider myself the beneficiary of a miracle. They do happen, and things will get better.

edit: Oh yeah, and you shouldn't see Chiros. They are frankly no better than Massage Therapists (and worse in many ways).

I would recommend talking to a physician for pain killers at this level, Hydro Codone would be prescribed by a Doctor if these are the complaints.

There are also, percasets, vicodin, oxy contin, oxy codone, and a few others I can't recall right now.

This sounds like degenerative disc disease, many people are on disability for it and get pain management pills for it.

Sorry to hear about your physical problems but, on the bright side, your mental health seems to have improved!

I had sciatica pain (very severe) in my upper right thigh. It came from an injury I incurred while trying to plant a tree, and couldn't get anyone to help me, so I went it alone. This was about 10 years ago. It lasted for about a month and then went away. 6 years ago I got into a car accident and got a permanent injury to my back, which does bother me once in a while, especially if I do sudden, quick movements.

I went to a chiropractor for 5 months after the car accident. But through all this, the sciatica never returned. I had a back setback 2 years ago too. Went to a chiropractor again (about 10 visits). Never got the sciatica again.

So if you're worried that the sciatica is a permanent thing, that hasn't been the case for me. In time, it may well just go away on its own, and probably will. Hope you feel better. Keep your chin up.

Since the comment was posted in the religious forum follow the procedure given in James 5:13-16 (CEV) =
[SUP]13 [/SUP]If you are having trouble, you should pray. And if you are feeling good, you should sing praises. [SUP]14 [/SUP]If you are sick, ask the church leaders to come and pray for you. Ask them to put olive oil on you in the name of the Lord. [SUP]15 [/SUP]If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them.

[SUP]16 [/SUP]If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot.

"Protectionist" beat me to it but here is my story....My wife had a bad bout with sciatica after a nasty fall. She could not walk and was in constant pain. She went to a chiropractor....It took about 3 or 4 visits and a couple of weeks and it went away. Hope this helps...

I want to thank everyone for your best wishes. It started out with back lower pain on the right side. I don't recall being injured or doing something crazy. So I went to see the chiro for about a month and that didn't work. So I went to urgent care and they gave me meds. Gabepentin, diazel, hydrocone, naproxen. Sorry I mispelled them . I took them for about A week. then I went to see my doc. he said it was my sciatic nerve. Started going to Pysical therapy...been there for about a month, wasn't working very good. it came back, but for a whole week it went away. my therapist, very nice guy david, said my butt muscle was so hard that it was pinching the nerve, so it was a muscular thing. then a week later I had to leave work and check into ER where they didnt do anything...going again thursday, but emailed my doc and told him I need crutches and he wrote back saying I should get some shots in the back butt. the meds make me sleepy and its hard to drive and as you know i'm half christian half scientologist. so meds are out of the question. its only on the right side and I don't think its the disk, because it hurts more after I have sex. and my GF likes it like 3 times a day. SOrry I can't respond to everyone.

After 6 decades of falling out of trees, off horses, heavy lifting etc... I have crippling back pain. I have tried everything except painkillers... I have arthritis, a little scoliosis and degenerative disc disease.

I have fought it for 5 years with special exercises, Motrin and heat.. Today I saw a world class orthopedist and tomorrow I have an MRI. I am not a candidate for surgery. So the options are PT.. more exercises, painkillers or an epidural. I am not taking painkillers.

My weight is not an issue as I am thin.

I am not giving up.. don't you.. God has nothing to do with it.

Sounds like sciatica to me. You are young to be dealing with it though. Easy to fix. I had it once and got rid of it fast, forget living with that sh*t. my advise: Go easy on the meds they are no good, as you know. Sleep on your back never on your belly. Get your stretches down (from chiropractor or youtube) and do them daily, eat right, join a yoga class and keep seeing your chiropractor. You should have it licked in a few months and it will be history in a year. Our species is very susceptible to back problems. No praying required......

With sciatica you sleep on your side with knees pulled up and one over a pillow.

The best is to lie on the floor with your legs elevated on several pillows.

I say do what your chiropractor tells you. I was told to sleep on my back and took me about 1 month to re-train my subconscious to do so. Know it is natural.

Chiros are good.. but not with extreme pain or any sort of medical problem.

My chiro told me to sleep on my side with one leg over a pillow.. but a BC orthopedist is the person he should consult.

I had it years ago and changed a few habits and never had it return. I have no idea what a BC otho whatever is. We are all different though.
