Meteor strike injures hundreds in central Russia

Given enough time an asteroid could be painted white etc, and the pressure of the suns rays hitting the surface would deflect the 'to be' impactor enough to miss the earth. Or of course it could likewise be used to target earth with the roid, lets call the bfr wormwood. (google it)

Or a slightly heavy spacecraft could be parked near the roid' or iron rich meteor, comet etc and the ship mass would gently slowly tug the roid’ out of or to an earth impacting trajectory. Despite the intent either action could be dangerous because the time needed to deflect a moderately large roid' such as Apophis, a 27-gigaton rock that is expected to pass close to Earth in 2029 and in 2036 is about 20 years. Oh about eight to ten tons of paint would be needed.

Fireball seen above San Francisco

A bright fireball has reportedly been seen in the sky over the San Francisco Bay Area, ABC news said citing several witness accounts. The report comes one day after a meteorite fell in Russian Urals, causing widespread panic. Around 1200 people were injured as an air blast from the meteorite explosion smashed windows and damaged some buildings.

this wouldn't be it. meteors that do explode do it because the pressure from moving thru the atmosphere becomes greater than the tensile strength of the rock and it shatters. this one lost it 12-25k above ground. the air is pretty thin up there.

Apparently there was some kind of impact that happened on some farmland in Kansas, the town of Smallville to be exact. The owners of the farm that was impacted, Johnathan and Martha Kent, said all was well and quickly escorted the camera crew off their farm. Well, probably nothing important really happened there anyway.

 

In such case, it's going so fast that it can be broken by air! A tiny object like an air molecule can do hefty damage if it (or what it hits as it doesn't matter) is traveling that fast, via force & friction.. Crazy stuff!

 

I'd imagine that would have to be very precise, and without information precise enough it would have a margin of error to make too much risk of it backfiring.. Like it winds up hitting the wrong place.. Oops!
