I suspect the family was likely muslim, so this may really be more of a muslim culture issue. There seems to be a lot of violence against gays by muslims - really a lot of violence in general with many things...

Muslims lie you know? The uncle told the father if he didn't kill his son, he would kill him. The father had no choice, it was a family disgrace. I would think giving the child a sum of money and telling them to leave would be sufficient, but sometimes the humiliation is so great, that nothing will appease them other than ridding themselves of that child. These are very harsh societies.

The boy was only seventeen and wasn't aware of what he was doing, nor what the consequences would be. More than likely he was a victim of a pedophile. ..maybe his teacher?

Even if the murder was religiously motivated, it isn't reflective of Islamic society as a whole. Sure, they can be against homosexuality but murder is a step too far - other weird or crazed families would have just kicked him out onto the street. It hasn't been beyond catholics either to demonstrate their opposition to homosexuality through violence.
