More proof you don't understand that we don't think the Bible has any merit in predicting future events or in telling us truths about the natural world. The fact is that the author of Revelation thought that the end times were coming during his lifetime, and not at any point in the future.

 

One does not have to be Greek to know that the Bible was being written and rewritten during the time of the Greek empire.

Greece is the name of the current nation of the Greek archipelago. It is a very new name.

The Romans called Greece 'Graecia' (land of the Greeks) from which we take the name Greece. Though the Greeks have different names for their country. So, given the translation, it's not so new.

Only if you include the Apochrypha. The Books of the Maccabees are involved with the Seleucid Empire, part of the Greek empire.
The Old Testament ends in the Persian Empire and the New Testament starts in the Roman Empire..

There was never any Greek empire , never , ever ! in fact calling someone a Greek ( Elleenas ) was punished with death .

They knew many things like how to construct flying machines and computers ( Anitkythira mechanism) use steam etc but this was not common knowledge , there are even several hypothesis about evolution of species (Anaxagoras i think ) but you can not claim that these were prevalent.
It is known that Leonardo DaVinci made many discoveries ( specially about what blocks arteries) and wrote about them yet they lost and later scientists had to rediscover them .

We've got a guy who claim that the bible mentioning empires that its authors obviously would have known about is proof of the bible's legitimacy. Then when pressed for line and verse, he just throws out insults and refuses to provide any citations (it's just one word and two numbers from a book you purportedly read quite thoroughly, man - we're not asking you to demonstrate the non-trivial zeros in the Zeta-Rienmann function). It's nuts.

 

Do you know what it is called the Roman empire and not empire of Italy ? because it was created by Rome.
Alex built the Macedonian empire and the kingdoms that came after it was split took the names of the of Alex 's generals ( the piece Selefkos took named Selefkia / Seleucid in English ) .
Greece as a state , country , empire, kingdom or anything else never existed before 1832 and it wasn't around even as an idea before mid 16th century .

 

Naturally the fundy/evangey is self-rigtheous as well. Not only that they "Know the truth, but you are too stupid to see it"...but of course the fact that they know they've got their ticket to Heaven while "dumb, asleep guys like you" are going to be "Left Behind".

And again, given the Bible prohibitions against self-rigtheousness, the same folks who use it as a "roadmap to the future"....IGNORE the Bible in their daily lives.

'Roman' empire because when the Empire 'began' 'Italy' did not exist. If I remember rightly it was the Roman Republic.

When I talk of country I am talking of the area in which a 'people' live. Usually people with a common ancestry or culture. I believe the English name Greece comes from the Latin 'Graecia'. This is what the Romans called your country - Graecia - 'land of the Greeks'.
I am aware of the city states. These were common throughout the Middle East. Many 'countries' were made up of them. Philistia, Phoenicia and even Old Testament Palestine.
Macedonia. Nicholas Hammond 's study of Macedonian history, which is accepted as authoritative by scholars believes that the Macedonians were of the same 'pool' of people as the other Greek population.

Some historical / mythological background
In mythology Grecos and Elleenas ( E like in energy not like in eleven) were brothers, Graecee was a tribe of Fthia ( modern Fthiotis) and they start building colonies in southern Italy and Sicily , Latins met those people first and named us all Greeks . We call ourselves Elleenes but Greeks is perfectly fine. Same way eastern nations met Ionian Greeks ( in Asia Minor) and they named us all Yunan ( from Ionia) this is fine too.

Correct Phoenecia was consisting of independent city states it was not a country , more like a place of Phoenicians ( or whatever they called themselves, the name is Greek ) .

In Roman era there was no Italy in the same sense that there was no Greece , Elleenas after the christian era meant pagan so they used Romeeee (it means Romans and i know Greek language sounds funny) , calling us this way is fine too and many people still use it .

Yes the Macedonian kingdom was Greek , Cleopatra is still a very common name and every modern Greek can read the Rosetta stone .
