I think the problem is that we make national news of out local/state politicians and if they aren't 'our' politicians we really don't care that much, as they don't represent us anyway. It is done to smear a whole party, but only represents a fraction of said party. We are never going to get perfect politicians, but we could at least pretend we have standards for the scumbags we will get...
You are wrong, I would like for you to post abhorrent behavior by a republican that wasn't condemned by republicans. I like many people have a problem with hypocrisy. If someone is a "family values" candidate who is trying to tell me and everyone else how to live their life you bet I'm going to rake them over the coals if I catch them doing something unseemly. Got a few minutes to weigh in on this. Regarding Sanford vs Weiner, I think that how each party has judged their own has to be looked at through two filters. The first would be the level of support/condemnation from fellow politicians. Both Weiner and Sanford have/had received some. But that is not the ultimate test. I can call Sanford a scum all I want. Point to pundits etc. who chastised him. But in the end, he won the vote of in the Primary, and then the General Election. Hard to say that Sanford was properly condemned, and for the GOP to claim any high ground there, when the GOP voters elected him again anyway. I could argue that Weiner is a bigger schmuck. At least Sanford acknowledged a bad marriage, and it ended. Weiner seems to have been a bit perverted, but has also been a much bigger liar about it too, especially doing it again. However, all the condemnations don't count for much if ultimately the Democrat voters elect him. Weiner has the Clinton model to look at too. Bill got away with it. And Hillary seems to have done fine as well.
