Hear Ye Hear Ye his majesty King Barrack Hussein Obama has decreed a new tax upon the citzens! "$5-a-year phone tax to fund high-speed Internet in schools - critics blast 'end run' of Congress and 'endless expansion of program at the expense of rate payers'" http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/obama_celling_out_UtCvorWrEsMDxEheVWEmKO And the Constitution cries today.
Hope the taxpayers who don't even have kids or grandkids in school are smileing. They just got kicked in the * * * again.
I am not big on compelling companies to do things... but considering the "close working relationship" the major ISP's have with the government... coupled with the fact that the United States pays more, for less bandwidth, than any other first world nation... and the fact that nowhere else in the world do people have to deal with "fair access policies" where you are given an arbitrary bandwidth limit, and then charged per kilobyte for exceeding it... They should be providing free internet to public schools. The end.
This is about Obama acting as king and decreeing a tax, something only the House is allowed to do under the constitution.
Only when the fee payer is in the system to recoup some benefit. I pay a fee to register my car or enter a National Park. This is a tax. It's illegal, It's a constitutional usurpation by the Scumbag-in-Chief. Add it to the long list. .
It's all semantics. Officially, fees are charges assessed to defer the costs of providing a service. One could argue that taxes are the same thing. A charge assessed to help defer the costs of government.
This is not a tax b/c it does not meet the general definition of a tax. You might want to look at this. - - - Updated - - - It is not semantics. There are very basic, underlying principles that differentiate between a fee and a tax. - - - Updated - - - It's a fee and nothing more.

http://taxfoundation.org/article/understanding-difference-between-taxes-and-feesHere is an article that explains the difference in simple terms.
This won't be the first time he has decreed a tax. Remember the ObamaCare regulatory penalty that he declared a tax? Irony of ironies. The Judicial and Executive Tax Writers administering the oath to uphold the Constitution...
The internet is 50% porn, 25% picture of cat in hats and 25% anti obama propaganda. If everyone hates him so much who the hell voted for him? By the time he's finished with America you'll be two step closer to Mexico and two step further away from Europe. Hasta la vista!
What is the distinction you are making? - - - Updated - - - It's charged whether I use the phone or not. What is the distinction between a fee and a tax? Is that a gasoline tax or fee I pay at the pump?
By all means, explain the difference? Are you really that susceptible to legal jargon? So something can only be called a tax if there isn't an established reason for levying it? You do realize they are 2 halves of the same sentence, correct? "A tax has the primary purpose of raising revenue, to recoup the cost of providing a service to a beneficiary." They are the same thing. The creation of "fee" was nothing more than the ability to circumvent all the checks and balances put in place as to the term "tax". Are you insinuating that anything under the guideline of a tax has no general purpose, and therefore, all taxes are truly excess funds and could be abolished without anything being affected? After all, they have no purpose, or they would be "fees".
Regardless, the executive branch is not allowed to institute or raise fees without a law that authorizes them to do so. It's not a matter of what, but the fact that it is being done with callous disregard for the rule of law.
Exactly, and since this tax is for the purpose of raising revenue for ConnectEd, it is a tax. If it were a fee, the money would go into something directly related to phones.
its just a lousy 5 bucks a year..but if you got a free obama phone you dont have to pay it..that should be the outrage..not the lousy 5 bucks..
The outrage is that it is instituted by a whim of the President, not by an act of Congress. IMHO, this is impeachable.
