I was studying in University and working in Railways. I was very young in that time (1988). And like tourism I was in DDR, Soviet Union etc.

British pragmatism, maybe? But not all is money in the life.. and UK didnt´use the pragmatism when decided to stop the Nazi beast ...in 1939.
Spain always preferred the honor than the money...for better and worse.

Intoxication, maybe? what is the name of the school? Where is? When was it? any important information...It is a nasty video... But who did it? Spaniards? Brittons? Gibraltar settlers? I do not see any clues to identify locations, not even the language they spoke

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zzMVi848yM

I think it´s another manipulation, another intoxication news.. but I don´t know from where...

Don´t be surprised if the original source is British!

    Regards

    News about video:

But according with this catalan language text... It was filmed in a little Village in Saragossa province...but I think it´s unreliable information because It´said It wasn´t filmed in any school but in a fair by a theater group...In any case, it´s a stupid play!

    If it's negative, it's British.
    What utter stupidity.

Sweet as. The most I got at 18 was a minor leg injury whilst in basic training for the Army and that was about 5-6 years ago.

Well we do have a habit of sticking to our agreements. In this case when Germany invaded Poland.
Ultimately I think the Germans would of had a go at us later on.

And yes money isn't everything. But it helps.......Alot.

Yeah it is a pretty bad play. Terrible reviews. I just thought that it was kind of poor taste when the people portraying the British surrendered and were then shot.

So really I'm curious as to what the overall Spanish attitude is towards this issue?

Not stupidity, but prevention..misinformation, intoxication, or manipulation is something everybody do it. Basically information services and lobbies... I do not know the original source, and have not read anything. It can be a group of students from Saragossa or not ..May be a young spanish theater group and British services (or Media) may have wanted to amplify the news... I wouldn´t be the first time that the British Media (or services) manipulate and intoxicate the information in the History...

Mixing truth and falsehood is an art, in which the Soviets (and british) were the "Masters" ...

    Pro-Consul

So you have been soldier. It´s nice: Like it said by a Seventeenth Century spaniard soldier: the Militia is a honest men´s religion.. Who has been soldier, is soldier forever. At that time I was conscious I was living a historical period, the transition from communism to capitalism (at times savage). They were "the strange days".

Yes...and Not.. in CZ some people (communist, many of them) haven´t forgotten what United Kingdom did in München, 1938... (Chamberlain, Daladier... Worms!) (Hitler said).

yes help...but I'm afraid that sometimes one has to choose between money or honor. It´s not possible to have everything.

Bad play, vulgar, bad taste, nasty and unintelligent.

It is not the general attitude about the issue. Not even the minority attitude. It´s only a vulgar and stupid play.

The P284 boat... But, of course, The British services have not amplified that news from 2006, I think.

Well I only made the first month before it happened. I could of gone and had another go but things happen.
At least my heart and will was in it so in a way that's kind of true.

Actually I was thinking of joining a TA unit which is kind of a militia.

Ah, the Munich award. Logically speaking it was a small sacrifice for a lasting peace but obviously that did not turn out the way we wanted.

Personally I can understand what Chamberlain was thinking but I think that if we were a little harder with Germany and a little sooner then WWII may not of been as devastating as it was.
Yeah I think Mick Jagger had a couple of things to sing about that

How did you know? Oh yes and the play, big time. :roflol:

Hmm well the video does not seem to show the location of the boat. I mean you can see some land in the distance but I don't think there is anything to indicate location.

Another interesting video about an incident that was before the jet skier shooting incident.

It makes me wonder whether the discipline of the Guardia Civil is to be found wanting.

    It sounds nice...

Not for czech...by contrast, British prestige was so sunk in these countries that they didn´t trust (and don´t) more in London... Honor is like Virginity... once lost is impossible to recover ...

I also think like you. I´m sure Chamberlain wasn´t a bad man... In 1938, Great Britain had to choose between the War or Dishonor... and choose the dishonor... It had the War!!

Yes I don´t personally know him but I think he choose the money!

    Not for Broadway I think!

Guardia Civil is a very discipline corps..What about P284 sailors?

What about Royal Marines? I´m sure you know the February incident... don´t you?

    Regards

Britain's position re Gibraltar and the Falklands is quite frankly shameful and embarrassing, Britain is a decaying empire and stuff like this has no place in the 21st century. And I am British before anyone gets on their high horse, though have never considered myself so.

.Britain is NOT a decaying empire. It got rid of the empire years ago. Its has a few overseas possession of which everyone has the right to independence whenever it choses. Gibraltar wants to stay with the UK.

land belongs to the people who live on it not to some archaic notions of Nation states. We had vast numbers murdered in the balkans in teh nineties because the Serbs decided that kosovan areas were áncestrallly Serbian. We wouldn;t have the Israel/Palestine issue if theer hadn;t been ideas that land belongs to a people for all time

The Falklands are the same. the people who live there want to be British- they could be independent if they wished or they could be part of Argentina. Why you think people shiould NOT have self determination is beyond me.

Don't be stupid, Gibraltar and the Falklands want to remain British cause they are populated by British people that Britain moved there. Pretty remarkable that eh, move a load of your citizens to an island and ask them whether they want to stay part of your country or become part of another what are they likely to say?

Thats not self-determination thats empire. Imagine Argentina did that with the Isle of Wight and Spain with Jersey, what would your attitude be then? Do you think if they moved thousands of their own citizens to these islands they'd want to remain Spanish/Argentinian if you polled them? So don't talk crap, Britains position in these areas is indefensible.

Tye Gibraltarians aren;t actually from the UK. They are people from all over the Mediterranean. A lot of Jews and maltese mixed with Morrocans and local spanish.

That who area used to belong to Morrocco, Gibraltar is an arabic word should it be returned to Morrocco? Why should spain have it just because in 1492 they threw out the Muslims and Jews and settled Christian Spanish there

The Falklands was uninhabited. by man before the Europeans arrived. The descendents of the very first settlers are still on the island.

Why should argentina- a country also made up of settlers from Spain and Italy have ownership after all they were just people moved from Europe to Argentina. Are you saying they shouldn;t have self determination either.

more people in gibraltar are British than anything else. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar#Demography

Britian is made up of settlers from France, Germany and Norway if you want to go back far enough. Our position is indefensible, admit it.

British is their nationality not their origin.

Britiain is made up of all sorts of settlers. I suppose you think that it should be given to someone else- the Welsh perhaps- but if you go back far enough the Q celts were driven out by the welsh so should the irish have all of the Island of Britain?

I suppose you think that non native americans should have to all leave the USA and Canada.

how gfar back do you go.

The Falklands is the easist one because it was uninhabited as I said and the first people to settle certainly have rights over anyone else.

If some Island 200 miles off the coast of Brittain was uninhabited and argentina settled it then good luck to it.

Yeah bs, you'd be raging if that happened. It saddens me people aren't able to look past their own nationality when discussing these things, Britain is so clearly in the wrong in the Falklands and Gibraltar its embarrassing, I have an Argentinian friend it shames me when it comes up, also the war crimes we committed during the Falklands war such as the Belgrano which was then celebrated in the British press, but people like you can't seperate your nationality from your opinion through objectivity, its sad.

Why exactly are we in the wrong over Argentina?
Also if you have a friend that shames then he's not much of a friend is he?

he doesn't shame me the actions of the UK do. You are an idiot if you can't see how wrong we are to claim an island seven thousand miles away just cause we put a load of our people and a bunch of guns on it. Thats not how a civilised world is supposed to work, thats empire.

Wow I asked a simple question and you choose to insult me. And it's a little hypocritical of you to call me an idiot when I asked you in a civilized manner.

No you're being crass, rude and quite belligerent. I asked you as to your reasons why Britain should not hold onto the Falklands because you clearly have an opinion.

How am supposed to reason with someone who does elaborate on their beliefs?

you are not starting out from a position of reason you are not looking to reason at all, you are looking to defend Britain's actions because you are British, that is not reason or reasoning. Britain is 7 thousand miles away from the Falklands, a group of islands off the coast of Argentina. You don't need me to explain why that makes Britain's claim to them ridiculous.

You don't know that. I've not said anything so far regarding the Falklands.

And you don't who I am either. I could simply be an expatriate living in the UK or maybe I have dual nationalities.

Look if you're willing engage with me fairly then I will do likewise but I won't respond to people who make wild assumptions about my character or my beliefs.

Respect is a two way street.

    First,

Gibraltar and Falklands are unrelated, they are different cases.

    Second:

Gibraltar belonged to the Kingdom of Spain... the Visigothic Kingdom... 1.500 year ago! Not from 1492. Second. Gibraltar was taken by moslem in VIII Century and retaken by spaniards in XIV and XV centuries.

    Third:

Gibraltar wasn´t taken by british army or british navy. It was taken in a Civil War in 1704 by the House of Habsburg´s supporters (spaniards, dutchmen and englishmen), under Spanish flag and in the name of Charles III of Spain. (The future Charles VI in the Empire).

    Fourth:

Gibraltars is Royal´s Ownership... like everybody can read in Utrecht treaty, both spanish, english or latin versions. The Sovereignty belongs to the Catholick King.

    Fifth:

Gibraltar issue is about Waters, not about Ownership.

    Sixth:

Gibraltar settlers aren´t Gibraltar people. As demonstrated by the mitochondrial DNA, the cames from the Eastern Mediterranean (Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Albania, Egypt etc), brought by the British in the XIX - XX centuries. The original population of Gibraltar lives in San Roque and Line ... DNA doesn´t lie. The settlers are not original population, like it wasn´t the German settlers brought by the Nazis in Ucrania during the Lebensraum.

On the other hand, Middle East issue was caused by British double game in 1914 -1918 ....Have you ever heard anything about Mr Lawrence or Mr Balfour? One time more, UK breaking the signature.. like in Utrecht. I wonder, Is it cultural? I guess Honor or Word lack of importance in British society, maybe...

    Regards.

    Sure, whatever.

If you really believe that the Falklands belongs to Argentina then convince me.

Otherwise I sincerely suggest that you terminate this line of debate.
