The Scandinavian countries top the list in the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index 2013, the UK and US are 29th and 32nd respectively, while North Korea is 178th, second from the bottom.

    http://en.rsf.org/press-freedom-index-2013,1054.html

All you would hear from people in North Korea is how they are happy with every aspect of their lives, and that they have their Dear Leader to thank for it.

Here's an insightful documentary showing North Koreans, one after the other, praising and giving thanks to a picture of their Dear Leader because an American doctor saved their sight.

The documentary makers ask one man what is the greatest problem his blind mother faces in her day to day life, and without a moment's hesitation, he enthusiastically proclaims that what his mother wants more than anything else, is to be able to see the Dear Leader.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_268_pBvPs&list=PL84312A688E9B43E5&index=79

These are the worst cases of brainwashing I have ever seen. Not only are there no dissenting voices, there is nothing but absolute praise and admiration for the Dear Leader.

There is no law preventing other media outlets, within the US, debunking lies perpetrated by MSM.

Then the army would assume control within the week.
Assuming such rebels exist; how would support be delivered to them?

The 38th Parallel is one of the most heavily defended borders in the world. And there are approximately 6 million land mines in between the two Korea's.

It's not a particularly tropical environment. Some may say that North Korea is hilly and barren.
If it were though then the chances of being able to give aid would increase.

But as it stands. It would be possible to drop in crates of weapons but only very few. We might get away with it once or twice but not for long. And even then who would we be sending to?
That's the problem. Militarily the whole situation is stalemated. I can only see a political solution to this issue.

Precisely. Also the civilian casualties would be very serious.

As painful as it may be. Diplomacy will have to be the spear point of change.

Reporters Without Borders is a journalism mafia? Is this what passes for a valid rebuttal in your world?

The grave human rights abuses against the North Korean people by the totalitarian militaristic regime of Kim il-Sun is well documented, North Korean military spending to the detriment of the citizenry has take such a toll that the masses have had to resort to cannibalism to fend off starvation. Any defender of North Korea is an enemy of humanity.

No you obviously live in a delusional fantasy world where North Korea isn't the most brutal and oppressive regime on the planet and where internationally respected Non Governmental Organization and humanitarian organizations; such as, amnesty international and reporters without borders are akin to the mafia.

I suppose that's why every freedom index on the planet lists western media as free and fair; whereas, that of the Putin oligarchic autocracy is listed not free.

How about watching the many documentaries available regarding North Korea? People are risking their lives to get actual footage inside North Korea. After watching several of these documentaries, and there are plenty on Netflix, maybe you will understand why the North Korean regime tries very hard to control the information that leaves the country. And gets in.

Americans have always been able to travel pretty much where they want to. Can't say the same for the old Soviet Union and it's East Germany satellite countries. Do you think the Berlin wall coming down freed the West Berliners?

ah don't be so naive... should have known better that 'every freedom index' is rigged to order by the Western media itself in the first place and then spread worldwide like a plague.

The Kim's family brutality within the region is well documented. Remember that this is the same family in which current ruler Kim Jong-Un executed Jang Song Thaek and all of his direct relatives. It is the last place I would want to live in, quite literally.

Unfortunately, I don't think much can be done at this point from outside forces, so much as I would love to see the Kim's family overthrown for good. The only way I can see the Kim's family being usurp is if there is an massive overthrow internally, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon (though to be fair, more information is being let in thanks to technology).

PBS did have a good document describing what's going on in North Korea that they put up last month: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/secret-state-of-north-korea/

and of course those documentaries are made either by the BBC or CNN or The Ministry Of Truth etc.

mainly to holiday resorts, yeah, or other places they saw in the ads brought to them via local media censored by US authorities.

look the year when the Berlin Wall was destroyed, it was exactly when USSR pulled its support from East Germany and the East Germans were left to there own devices, so they rushed in West Germany to do shopping, not for freedom.

Well, if Communism is preferable, why did Russia become so capitalistic in the last decade? Putin surely has reaped the benefits of market liberalization.

Sure, North Korean regime is awful. However it demonstrated to the rest of the word: if you want to be really independent, have nuclear weapons.

You've got a BS answer for everything. Good boy comrade. You pass the Soviet brainwashing course. We all know it is you who could only go to selected resorts by your once very oppressive government. I traveled the world and not once did I meet a Russian traveler. Except for the Chinese, NK and the iron curtain prisoners, everyone else was traveling the world. I was at Checkpoint Charley in West Berlin in 1969 and looked across the wall into East Germany. What a sad sight to see. So depressing. Old buildings. Old and very few cars. And no one walking outside. Only angry looking commie guards were out. Your ruthless regime had no right suppressing people like that.

That's why Iran should never gain nuclear weapons.
