With all of the bat (*)(*)(*)(*) crazy stuff going on this week at the Conservative Political Action Committee event in DC, I thought that we should devote a thread just to CPAC. All of the Waco birds are there and the materiel is rich and plentiful. Better than Saturday Night Live. Here are some examples: :eyepopping:

The Conservative Political Action Committee is meeting this weekend in Washington, D.C., as they do every year. CPAC guests so far have included Ted Cruz (whose speech on Thursday was red and meaty), Mitch McConnell (who waved a gun around trying to look bad-ass), Bobby Jindal, Donald Trump (really? can’t you stop encouraging him?), Paul Ryan (who thinks kids should starve to feel loved) and Mike Lee (Cruz’s sidekick). Still to come are Rick Perry, John Cornyn, Oliver North, Rand Paul, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann and (of course) Sarah Palin. Lo0k for remarks from these brain trust members over the next few days.
    :alcoholic:

Many other right-wing “heroes” will be signing books at CPAC. Dr. Ben Carson will be there as will Christine O’Donnell (remember her? no, she’s definitely not a Witch; we wouldn’t have her). John Bolton is there shilling his book, Surrender Is Not An Option (but being a chickenhawk is!). Yes, the whole hee-haw gang is there with their ghostwritten books so that the RWNJs can spend money on signed stacks of paper that they will never read. Because reading is elitist, dammit!

    _______________________________________________________________________________

CPAC is in full swing, hosting a range of conservative speakers and holding discussion panels on various situations facing the GOP. On Thursday, CPAC hosted a panel on minority outreach. The panel consisted of conservative strategists Jason Roe, Elroy Sailor and Robert Woodson, along with Virginia Senate candidate Ed Gillespie. There was just one problem: The ballroom was nearly empty.
    Missed opportunity at CPAC.:hmm:

John Hudak, Fellow of Governance Studies at the Brookings Institute, took a picture of the empty ballroom at CPAC about 10 minutes into the panel. He said that it was a missed opportunity for CPAC attendees, because it addressed a very crucial question: “How do we grow our ranks in areas where we traditionally underperform?”
    ___________________________________________________________________________

CPAC is where reality goes to die, but you cannot really be sure. You have the lingering notion that some of these people might actually believe the truly absurd things they are saying. And I don’t know if that’s more frightening or sad.
CPAC seems to be the place conservatives go to make themselves feel good about all the lies and dishonesty they are responsible for. A place where they can slap each other on the back, wink, wink, nod, nod, and pretend among each other that they are not all full of sh*t. :steamed:

It’s a place where reality has no sway, like one of those “mystery area” houses built at weird angles that seem to defy gravity, where things actually fall or roll uphill. When you go to one of those places, it is so realistic that you want to believe that this is somehow all really happening, but deep down, you know it’s impossible. Things don’t roll uphill. It just does not happen. And when you leave, the world returns to normal. You don’t stay in that silly house.

On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to the stage to give a speech that was most assuredly going to be him repeating some of the tired old nuggets he’s been carting around since being elected to the Senate. Basically, everyone knew that he was going to rail against Obamacare and call it the biggest job killer in the nation’s history. You knew he was going to deride President Obama’s economic policies and state that less regulation and lower taxes were the cure-alls and the path to prosperity. This much was all a given.

However, besides repeating the same-old/same-old from his well-used playbook, Cruz decided to jump on board with the rest of the Republican Party and parrot the talking point of the moment. Below is what Cruz had to say at CPAC.
Much like neo-con war horses like Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham or a GOP ‘wonk’ like Rep. Paul Ryan, Cruz is just repeating the new phrase of the day for Republicans. Essentially, he’s just jumping on board and saying the same things any number of Republicans and conservative pundits have thrown out there lately about Obama being ‘weak.’ He’s not setting an agenda or pushing forward his own opinions. He’s just parroting lines with the hopes that it will get a reaction out of the war hawks and Obama haters out there. :wall:

CPAC is simply where all the conservatives go to console each others political butthurt and bash liberals. It's actually pretty problem solving idea free.

I've voted against Democrats my entire life (until 2012, at which point I sat home) and I cannot argue a single thing you've said.
It's embarrassing. If it weren't for their Bankster money, the neo-cons would be about as fringe as a flat earther organization giving speeches to six other people in a basement.

LIBERAL REALITY: If you like your plan you can keep your plan.

I'm sorry I don't have anything better than a 1 liner but then this thread really doesn't deserve anything better because all I see is a bunch of liberals rattling off names of people they couldn't pick out of a crowd and only recognize by name because some other liberal told them "this person is bad".

The Democrats are a voting coalition of minorities and lead by radical left-wing Jews engineering a great demographic shift in America through illegal immigration.
The Republicans are knuckle dragging fools but I'm not going to actively vote in a minority coalition against my own people. Sorry.

You have a right to be scared. Lots of positive energy coming out of CPAC. Enough to assure we'll keep the House and take over the Senate in Nov.

Did you hear Perry's speech? He was awesome. ♥

What's sad for you and your group is that all the people in the clown car have amply demostrated why they are bad.

And since the liberals here in this forum are far better informed than the far right wingers here, your attack hardly holds water.

It's called self-respect and survival instincts and no, they aren't alive and well in America, which is why this country is finished.

Watch the press coverage of the CPAC convention.

    There's a lot of it.

The conservatives have always tried to hijack the news cycle whenever the can and try to define the narrative.

Now, they've got the entire stage. Politico is covering it non stop. Which means that it is the obsession of the inside the beltway navel gazers.

The corporate media knows a good show when they see one.

This collection of nuts, crackpots, radicals, and frauds are the reason that the GOP is planning to shorten the primary cycle because the GOP clown car managed to make the entire party look like a bunch of crazy rubes.

So, they all show up at once, and the show is full of laughs.

Judging by this crowd, poor Rience Priebus will fail in his attempt to derail the clown care.

I fully expect the 2015 CPAC convention to be the inauguration of the 2016 GOP clown car.

It will be at times infuriating, but mostly entertaining.

Perry is psychotic. If you can't see that, well.......

It wasn’t just Perry’s goofy campaign flubs that doomed him in 2012, however. His book “Fed Up!” was a sampler of Perryisms that made him an easy target, from calling Social Security an unconstitutional pyramid scheme to declaring all bank regulation “unconstitutional.” In fact, pretty much the entire 20th century was unconstitutional, according to Perry. His 2016 opponents would still have a lot of fun with the book, and with Perry’s legacy. http://www.salon.com/2014/03/07/oops_he’s_running_again_rick_perry_wows_cpac/

I don't have to read your leftwing propaganda sites. Perrys done a good job of leading Texas thru a bad economy. But I understand that past achievement is low on lefty lists. You guys go for empty suits... Perrys def not an empty suit.

You are hilarious. Wanna know what the liberals think of CPAC? Turn on your television set.

The same media that made such a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing huge kerfuffle over a bridge closure are now all parroting the same talking points:

    "Christie is Back!"

Hijack the news cycle. LMAO!!! Get your head clear.

You either aren't paying attention or you take everything at face value and never look behind the curtain.

Of course they're giving Christie a buildup. The only reason is that Christie was banned from CPAC last year, not because he's survived his bridge scandal.

The GOP doesn't care if Christie is a thug, or a crook. But they really care if he gets photographed hugging Barack Obama.

After all, many of the stars of this circus have dirty trick, lies and financial scandals of their own.

One thing is certain for liberals that are for immigration reform, they are in bed with big business that is pushing it.

I love this thread as it again shows the true meaning of liberal tolerance and understanding.

The real irony is that we've all lived in your Liberal reality for over 5 years now, and there's still no free gas and mortgage for Peggy... I've tried to find out if she's beter off today, but she's no longer making the news...

It's not very often that I see a Liberal come up with interesting facts about the opposing Conservatives. When I see Conservatives talk smack about Liberals, all I see is facts.

I don't really get why people would want bigger government in their lives 24/7. Do you Liberals really think that having more security at the airport and military grade weapons patrolling the streets is what's going to save us from the so called "terrorists"? lmao!!!
