What about the women who 'RIVETED' to build the planes?? What about the WOMEN ASTRONAUTS who went through all the testing and some training until Eisenhower said, NO WOMEN! (Ask the old astronauts WHICH gender had the most experience and flight time leading up to the selection of 'only boys' for NASA).

Yep, women who came on the same boats to the new world as the men, while having periods and having BABIES. Managing to keep the babies alive and the men from killing each other. Building huts, sewing skins, and clothes and moccasins and shoes. Who hunted and gathered and KEPT THE POPULATION ALIVE even when the men went out hunting and warrioring. One Indian 'princess' guide accompanied a band of merry men (the Lewis and Clark Expedition) to EXPLORE Jefferson's new land acquisition--called the Louisana Purchase. She carried a papoose on her back the entire time and kept her baby alive and apparently on at least 2 occasions--kept some of the men alive including 'water rescues'. She and other women helped settle the West. And somehow many WOMEN managed to do even more.

She created WIRELESS COMMUNICATION technology that was an outcome of listening for Nazi transmissions during WWII. It eventually ended up as the basis for cellphone technlogy. She GAVE the US government the patent for the technology (yep, must have been a woman, that 'common good' thing) for the war effort.

Admiral? Grace Hopper--ever hear of COBOL? You should! It was one of the primary computer languages that led the way for all the rest (and gave misogynists like we find on this thread to ability to spew about how women haven't accomplished anything)! She was a code writer for Rand and helped develop COBOL. I can't remember when she went into the Navy, I believe she made Admiral. Also, if I remember correctly, she retired at least once and the US Navy pulled her out of retirementer in her 70's because they needed her expertise.

Mary Anderson invented a little 'non-important' item call windshield wipers.

Betty Graham invented an office item that most all of us have used to this day. Liquid Paper. Sure, I guess that makes sense, a woman who typed. She managed to pop out a couple kids in the interim. One became a singer--in the MONKEES. She sold it to Gillette in 1980 and made a fortune.

[Barbara Askins--a chemist. After she spit out a couple of kids went to work and developed PHOTOPROCESSING chemicals that greatly enhanced the clarity of photographs including those used by NASA who needed precise resolution for 'space' photographs. Oh yeah, and the same chemicals were used to ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF XRAY images.

Dr. Temple Grandin. Lived her whole life AUTISTIC, yet got a PHD and invented numerous devices for handling farm animals, to restrain them and 'herd' them humanely and to keep them alive instead of using brute force. Her techniques and equipment are used worldwide.

Stephanie Kwolek--A chemist at DuPont. Invented a little product known as KEVLAR. I'll bet soldiers, cops and fireman might get in line to thank this WOMAN of no accomplishment.

Mary Phelps Jacob--a NY SOCIALITE who invented the bra. That's a 'girl' thing right?? Except, ironically the US GOVERMENT asked women to conserve steel during WWI and to give up their corsets, so Mary's 'backless brassiere' became every women's staple item and I guess it helped save enough STEEL to allow us to fight. Go figure.

Shirley Jackson, PHD--MIT (in theoretical physics) Invented the touch tone telephone, the portable fax, caller ID, call waiting, and the fiber optic cables that make overseas phone calls crystal clear. Did I mention she was black??

Patricia Bath (MD) -- invented the laser surgery device for removing cataracts. I'll bet a few folks would like to shake her hand and they would see that she too was BLACK.

Yep, neither of my grandmothers had the vote for the first 15 and 20 years of their lives. They've done well but until their 'person' is safe from ABUSE, no matter their income or what house they live in, this country has a long way to go. And if REPUBLICANS get their way, they'll drive them even farther back making them regain terrirtory.
