Stupid thread. The Congress is irrelevant when it comes to emergency orders from the WH for health and safety. Gosh, you might think that Obama would have to go to Congress to drop bombs on other countries!

Because this doesn't fall under the Congress or the Senate.

    There are 3 cases.

Congress can pass all the spending bills and resolutions it likes.

they passed a bill calling on the embassy to Israel be moved to Jerusalem.

they can pass a bill demanding the FAA halt flights from West Africa.

Source? As far as I can tell, there is only one confirmed case.

Fair enough, how about an executive order? Also what bill was passed to stop all flights when 9/11 happened?

And what is that going to do? FAA falls under the Excusive Branch.

LMAO So you're going to throw the airlines under the bus? The problem isn't the domestic flights, its the immigration policy and international flights.

Mmmm no, I don't think so.

That's less than an hour ago from the LA Times. Perhaps my Googling is off, but nothing comes up for a second confirmed case. A lot of people seem to think they have Ebola and end up not, I wonder what could be driving all this hysteria?

Bills originate in the Senate too, bro.

Only bills that raise revenue have to originate in the House. Try reading the Constitution.

In any case, the laws already exist to screen people.

Gosh, imagine the Country cannot do anything without a full year long House and Senate debate? How stupid is this thread? Seriously?

If the FAA wanted to shut down flights from that part of Africa they could, they don't need a bill from congress.

And do what? Pass a redundant bill to make you feel better?

HHS and USDOT already have the power to do what you want. If that's not enough Obama can order them in accordance with existing law.

This whole thread is bull(*)(*)(*)(*) beyond belief. Ebola is a very horrible disease to get but it CANNOT be caught by airborne vectors. It is, in fact, rather difficult to catch even by actual personal contact, the only way it can be spread. A doctor on TV, an expert on the subject from Sloane Kettering, said the best way to avoid getting it is to not rub the blood from an infected person on your face, which, apparently, conservatives want to be able to do for some reason.

The main reason it is spreading so fast it because of the absolutely primitive conditions caregivers are forced to work under in the affected areas. This could rather easily be remedied if the CDC had more money. Some of the 600 million the Republicans have just sent back to the Koch Bros to spend on campaign contributions for Tea Partiers might really have helped there.

And the thing to remember is that all pandemics reach a tipping point, and after that they spread much more easily and are nearly impossible to stop. This TP has nothing whatsoever to do with quarantines, which are totally ineffective against it, but is mainly due to the saturation of the disease in the affected areas, which little or nothing is being done about.

I hope all the conservatives are happy that the quarter to 3 quarters of humanity their insanely short sighted policies may be about to kill will know they are dying to preserve our Plutocrats in their billions. I also hope quite a few of same Plutocrats will be dying with them

Most bills initiated by the House reside on the desk of Harry Reid. Has Shumer considered passing a Senate bill to be considered by the House? Why hasn't Prezzy demanded the House and Senate both return to DC to confer and design a bill? Why is it only the GOP's fault? And what happened with the Pen and Phone Executive Action Prezzy? .

Your post certainly hasn't made the thread any sweeter.

The big budget drop for the CDC was in 2009 (the 2010 fiscal year budget), when Pelosi, Reid, and Obama were in charge.
