Sometimes it seems Republicans will support anything if it makes money irrespective of environmental consequences. They seem to disbelieve the idea of Climate change yet support anything that seems to make it worse and make them more money.

I woud dearly like to be conservative but the policies that I see and hear coming from them seem to ignore sensible scientific evidence that humans are and can do stupid things that hurt the environment for everyone else. Its a selfish policy, albeit well intentioned, but for their own, not the general, welfare of society.

They decry what they see as liberal policies, which aim to seek the welfare of a society for all. Hence we also get widening income gaps because they take from the poor and give money to themselves, it seems. Robin Hood is alive and well, but has reversed his plan and become Republican. Or Maybe The Sherrif of Nottigham has imprisoned Robin Hood and taken all the wealth for himself and made the poor, poorer.

We also have a very destructive economic paradigm. Infinite growth, while the earth has finite resources. If you use an ounce of logic here, even the village idiot can see the sheer nonsense, dangerous nonsense involved.

What happens when a deer population exceeds the local resources needed to allow them to survive? But what would happen if those deer were like us and consumed more and more with their self image and social status being dictated by how much they could consume?. And that is exactly where humanity is today, with this cancer called capitalism.

Our God is money, profit. And if we destroy our life support in worshiping the god, just how intelligent is our species? Yet the people who do see this, who try to talk about it are called loony tunes. But who are the actual loony tunes? Reality is much more ludicrous than fiction could ever be.

Although I think your post is well intended, I have to make an issue regarding your opening sentence. That being 'Republicans'. My intent firstly is not to defend those 'republicans' (or democrats by any means, I subscribe to neither party) However, in the interest of 'fair play' I'd like to point out an interesting fact.(yes you can Google it) The wealth and power in this country is firmly in the grasp of the democrats, not the republicans. Liberals have successfully placed all blame for the nations woes on the shoulders of those mean, thoughtless, profit seeking republicans when indeed the republican party represents the middle class small business owners. Of course there are 'rich and powerful' republicans that yield some very big sticks. But take a minute or two and do some fact checking into how many more 'corporate giant world killers' are aligned with the democrat party. Democrats do not walk on water as liberals portray them. I will be accused of being a 'rightwing whacko' for this post, I assure you that I'm not. But truth and reality simply doesn't exist in many liberal accusations. They are well indoctrinated in the art of omission, misrepresentation and propagation of falsehoods and erroneous 'facts'.

    Taxcutter says:
What does sensible scientific evidence have to do with Global Warming? Sensible scientific evidence does not include doctored data or hysteria about every hot day in August.

    Taxcutter says:
Caused by excessive regulation, excessive taxation, and excessive litigation.

Do you have anything beyond DNC slogans?

I was saying this with a bit of TIC. I appreciate your comment and will look it up. IN UK a smilar demographic says that if the goverment want to increase the tax take they have to hit the Middle Class (not the US equivvalent Middle Class BTW) not the Upper (US high earners) or lower Class(UK working Class). The popular myth there is hit the wealthy like here, but it doesn't get the government a lot of money. However the wealth of this nation (Not the political affiliation) is concentrated disproportimately among a very few and because some of those big monies (ala Koch Bros) are Republican and support Republican causes then IMO the Republicans get the blame, even if in your excellent treatise this may not be exactly tru.

AH yes, those infamous 'Koch Brothers' (if liberals had a bible, the word 'Satan' would be edited out and replaced by 'Koch Brothers') Too bad for republicans that Gates, Buffett, Soros and the like don't have 'brothers'.

Perhaps you might have a point if those who were touting 'climate change' were actually concerned about the consequences of their policies and perhaps 'if' liberal policies actually did seek welfare for all. Aiming is not good enough when the aim is off and has the obvious unintended consequences of worse welfare.

My largest beef with climate alarmism has always been about the lemming followers who don't care to understand the bait and switch that is being used to get them to support policies that feed the pocketbook of those on the 'alarmist' side and that actually cause a worse problem for this earth.

I've been an environmentalist since the 70s. I sit right centrist socially, and right fiscally, but cannot claim to be a 'republican' or 'democrat' as a Canadian.

"The Energy And Climate Change Secretary will doubtless trumpet the success of the Coalition’s ‘green’ policies, which have mostly involved carpeting Britain with evermore wind farms and solar panels.

He may also boast about how, under his stewardship, we have moved away from relying on coal-powered energy and entered a brave new world in which ‘biomass’ — or plant-based fuel, mostly made up of wood chips — is used to run our power stations.

. . . The result? It costs us all a fortune and emits MORE pollution."

To be fair, you should say "MODERN Republicans"....

in the past, Republicans from Teddy Roosevelt to Ike to even Nixon were pro-environment.

It's only in the post-Reagan era of "Trash the planet if it helps the bottom line" "conservatism" that we see this. Dating back to when James Watt, Reagan's Interior Secretary, said we didn't need to worry about the environment since "Jesus was coming back soon anyway"

I think you comment on this is very valid. You might also believe that the parties have cahnged their position by almost 180 degree over time, possibly. Teddy Roosevelt if I am not correct created some early National Parks, didn't he? I can't see MODERN REPUBLICANS doing that.

But at least those others you mentioned created their own wealth, whereas the Kochs have proved to be quite good at manipulating the politics of our nation by using the wealth created by their father, not them. The two argued with two other brothers so they took power which has enabled them to blatantly influence and undermine our School Board by somehow getting pawns of theirs into positions of power and influence among other things they are doing in our state with the elections currently looming. Their SuperPac is known to be and clearly clearly is behind the Republicans fiancing here.

No, we advocate economic growth that matches or exceeds population growth. Democrats are the ones who advocate infinite population growth through legal and illegal immigration.

    I hate hyper partisans of either side, but the reasoning for the Democratic side is;

"Agree with me or you are evil"

It's getting old, what a stupid thread

Speaking as a middle class small business owner, that's completely insane. Republicans love the extremely wealthy and nobody else. If it were up to them, small business would be impossible outside of franchises.

existing as a small business that isn't a franchise doesn't work these days because they can't compete. Or if you run a shoe repair business or vacuum cleaner repair business or some such thing, you're doomed to failure because of consumer trends. We are a disposable society. It's cheaper to buy new shoes and vacuums than is to repair them. Franchises can purchase raw materials through franchise affiliations whereas Mom and Pops can't. Just 'being there' is no longer enough. Advertizing and marketing are key to bringing in business. Small specialty business can't afford either. Blame republicans if it makes you sleep better at night. But your plight stems from an evolution in how and why consumers make purchases.
I live in a community where there is virtually nothing but 'small businesses'. A few years ago Walmart wanted to put a store here. They were turned down, The city counsel opted to 'protect our small businesses from the retail giant. As there years passed, one small business after another closed their doors. Throughout the week and especially on Saturday morning there is an endless stream of traffic heading down the hill to Chico...shoppers. They drive down the main drag, past those small businesses to spend their hard earned money at retailers and grocers that offer better prices and larger selections. The shoppers are conservatives, democrats, liberals, republicans, blacks, whites and Hispanics They could care less about the plight of the businesses they pass up. They want some 'bang for their buck'.

No not really, even though it could be perecived as that. I don't hear of Soros, Gates or Buffett using their wealth to do things which are counter intuitive, whereas I see big companies like Exxon Mobil and the Kochs using their money for what I perceive as counter intuitive things and not in the interests of 'we the people' and citizens of USA but in the self interest of a few companies and a minority of 'citizens of the USA'

I really would like to be a Conservative voter, but the divisiveness and unrepresentative two party system we have mitigates against what I perceive as my place for my vote, somehwere with the real majority in the middle. The system also allows the likes of the extremists to significantly influence policy.

    Here's an interesting exercise:

Since this thread is about environments issues Google "Microsoft fined for environmental violations" Or any variation on that with any of the other names you mentioned.

Now try it with "Koch industries" or "Koch Brothers".

And what relevance do you imagine comparing the enviromental impact of the computer software business with oil and chemical refining?

It is now a known fact that there are more rich Democrats than Republicans. Yet the Left seems to think only the Right are business owners and are the only ones ripping off the people and dirtying the air.. Got any proof of that?

It would seem like the Dems are saying the Koch brothers have their money in almost every state. I am hearing the same thing here in Arizona. I have to wonder who those rich Democrats are donating their money for?

The others mentioned in the quoted post managed to stay within the guidelines mostly. Koch Industries didn't. I know the lines are different for the two businesses but when one company out of several consistently can't obey the regulations.............
