You don't seem to be fighting drug abuse. Your seem to prefer to attack people. Those who happen to use one specific drug.

    Well you are quite wrong.

I have several old and dear friends who like to smoke pot. I never touch the stuff.

They respect me and I respect their choices. They never try to smoke it in my house or on my property and I ignore that they smoke it on theirs. I am not unusual at all in that many people co exist this way.

    - - - Updated - - -

I agree that is a foolish waste of money.

However it has been well established that the most common gateway drug is alcohol.

Marijuana is seldom a gateway drug.

    Interesting wives tale.

I lived in a 420 friendly frat house and everyone but me smoked blunt. One of my best friends smokes a fat J it daily. I'm fine with it but it's not for me. I hate marijuana smoke almost as much as tobacco smoke.

That's funny... My sister told me I smoked too much... [weed]. I moved and changed my phone number. Haven't heard from her since. Don't smoke any more either but just because I haven't found a place for acquisition in my new location.

And you know, without the hen that thinks she runs the roost, things are good.

And a point the OP seems to miss... there's obviously far more pot smokers than those of which he's aware.

No, I am 53 and the whole peer presure thingy is long gone. I also voted for the legalazation here in Colorado. Non of my friends who are workng in good jobs and are professional in the communtiy seem to have a problem.

No spouse beating, driving while high or other meesy stuff. I will add the tourist that visit here seem to be happy. As far as the community I live in and the people I call friends nothing has changed except now they will not go to jail for having a joint.

There has never been a medically proven death from pot. You'd have to eat like 10kg of the stuff in 2 seconds to die.

Bigotry and ignorance works both ways on many issues, not just this one.

The problem comes from poor attitudes of "you are but not me" nonsense.

we live in one of the most over-medicated societies in history. from that daily cup of joe to start our morning to the advil for minor aches and pains to the anti-depressants just because we feel a bit down, our society is constantly consuming mind and body altering drugs in order to attain some imaginary state of normality or even a state that is a little better than normal. for every perceived ill there are any number of remedies and nostrums and we spend billions of dollars every year to develop new ways to make ourselves feel a little better. this isn't even taking into account the countless bottles and cans of alcohol we consume each day. face it, the world just looks a little better with a couple of beers after a long day's work. the question is - what is "better". you've taken the cliche of the mindless stoner, sitting placidly in his basement and watching the world pass him by, and you've decided that this is not only not better than normality, but that everyone who tokes up every now and then is just such a cliche.

drug abuse? sure, i'm against it too. it is as detrimental as any other form of abuse. the problem is that your definition is so incredibly skewed. use does not equal abuse.

Because it's been illegal for so long, people have gotten really good at hiding their marijuana-smoking. It's like alcohol during prohibition -- it didn't go away, it just became something you did on the sly. And marijuana's generally easier to hide, too.

What I'm getting at is, chances are that lots of people that you don't think are pot-smokers are, in fact, pot-smokers.

Can't the same be said of tobacco smokers? I don't like being around their habit, and clearly those who are around smokers do tend to become smokers themselves. The worst of this has to be in families.

Maybe not most, but I for one will have the occasional beer or wine for taste. I never get drunk, at least not on my own. No point. :D

No, it's not. I know lots of folks who will have a glass of wine with dinner or a beer while chatting with friends. Hell, I'm not a wine snob (I'm told I have no palate), and don't really like the taste of beer much but I appreciate a good scotch and I always stop at one.

    I beg the differ...

My girlfriend was a straight A student, parents are both rich, graduated with two degrees from Miami (OH), straight edge, never done a thing wrong in her life.

I on the other hand, smoke pot on a regular basis. I supervise several loss prevention officers at a 600,000 sq ft distribution center. I go to school full time as well, 16 hours this semester, A's in every class but one (religion, I dont believe in God so... yeah), all in my pursuit of a Operations and Project Management degree. All while using my GI bill that I earned from two deployments as part of a security company escorting high dollar convoys in Afghanistan.

So, your argument is shot that quickly. Good game.

Unfortunately for you, this is a free site.

Doubly unfortunate for you, I make almost twice the median income at the young age of 25, even while attending school in the process. I served two tours, have over a dozen ribbons/medals and several commendations for actions during combat. I am willing to bet that even now, I have done more, seen more, contributed more, and experienced more than a vast majority of those who don't smoke. But how can that be?

The problem with people like you is, you think people who smoke pot all have long hair, and do nothing but sit around on the couch all day eating Cheetos. That's about as accurate as me saying all gays walk in parades and slap each other with giant dildos, or saying all blacks are poor and uneducated and sell drugs.

If I had to guess, you probably come in contact with several marijuana users every day, the vast majority of those you would never expect. Several people in upper management at my company use marijuana. We're talking guys who make well over six figures. I know, because the guy who sells to them is a shift supervisor. I know of doctors who bought marijuana, cops, I know several attorneys who just bought from my buddy who is currently attending law school.

Sorry Mark, but if your irrational and obsessive fear of pot smokers is ruining your day, be glad you don't know the real truth about people who use the drug.

I don't care what kind of people are using it. All I know is that they're evil and they're destroying society. I also know that NOT ONE non-user is in favor of legalizing it.

Ha, do you know that? My girlfriend doesn't use and she's in favor of legalization. Was there not a thread on here just a few days ago saying the same BS, probably started by you? Several in that thread who were non-users supported legalization.

Im not sure if some pot head (*)(*)(*)(*)ed your girlfriend at one point in time, but the obsession is really unhealthy. Maybe you should try it yourself, it'll calm your nerves. Plus it makes food taste better and comedies more funny.

To keep the conversation going though, one portion of society have I destroyed?

If you're at work, you wouldn't be on this site. And the rest of us would be better for it.
