Let's not run from the fact that centuries of crime, poverty, weak infrastructure, and a culture that seems to abhor progress has been instrumental in Ebola spreading.

And now Obama (a president who I am losing respect for more and more on a daily basis) is sending troops and money there, while continuing to allow flights from Africa into the US.

But what's the point if Africans in that region refuse to adopt a culture that values the things that would create a safe, ordered, society ? How much longer are we going to hold their water ? When is it time to cut our losses and let those who refuse to get their affairs in order deal with the consequence of not doing so ?

I don't know why Sub-Sarahan states haven't been able to prosper.

I find the whole issue of Obama sending troops to West Africa interesting. At the same time he made that decision, without a lot of public hemming and hawing, he was engaged in a very public "no troops on the ground" argument in Syria. He had no hesitation in sending troops for a humanitarian reason, but declines to send them where we have national security interests, and he does recognize that we have a national security interest since he's engaged in an air war there, seems off the table.

To me that's really weird. I don't mind the humanitarian mission to Africa but our priorities should be where our national security interests lie. With the Obama administration, it seems the opposite.

As far as the Africans, they seem to be doing a much better job of handling the outbreak than we are. I'm quickly losing my faith in the CDC and I'm glad the Africans went ahead put in place common sense measures. We're the ones needing to be fixed, not Africa. I don't understand the rationale at all for how we're handling Ebola.

Why do you suppose China has invested 40 billion dollars in Africa?

The Africans are doing a better job at fighting Ebola than we are. You cannot be serious. Look at reality then get back to us.

You're right we should let Ebola spread rather than contain it now.

I believe our mistakes with ebola is due to over confidence in our government's promise to keep us safe, our healthcare system when it comes to handling new situations and us for being so naive about the dangers that exist outside our borders. Hopefully this will only be a wake up call. Like Brad Pitt said in his movie World War Z at the end, "Be ready for anything."

Then shouldn't we leave it over there, and ban those flights, instead of sending troops over there to contract it and bring it back to Detroit? The only way to "fight it" is to quarantine it, since there is no cure or effective treatment.

You cant it is not just from that area, they have people smuggled into Europe every day across the med, folks arriving in India and other locals that can have Ebola. Very few flights come here from Africa, it is the flight from Bombay or Mexico city that will get us and it will not be an African national it will be an American that unknowingly came in contact with one that will spread it.

From what I've seen from the religious right he would panic and demand the following:
    * don't send people to fight the virus now while it is not very wide spread
    * Stop anyone from entering the US, including Americans, while not stopping international trade
    * build a wall between US and Mexico to stop Ebola coming in from Africa
    * Oppose anything Obama does

We have the best technology in the world for this kind of thing. And two healthcare workers got the disease from a guy who shouldn't even have been in the country. Apparently we are keeping our doors wide open to anyone infected for reasons that have been unintelligible at best. If we shared a border with an Ebola infected nation, say it was running rampant in Mexico, we would just let Mexicans keep coming here and infecting us. Other nations don't seem to be as stupid as ours is at this sort of thing.

It wasn't Africans that dropped two nuclear bombs and burned alive hundreds of thousands of people in Japan. That was Europeans.

America was Judaized and led by the Jews at that time. President Rosenfelds advisors were Jews.

As for Jesus, that is what he would do, live by a philosophy that will get him killed by a bunch of ruthless savages so he could go to fairyland.

Yes 1 person in the history of humanity unexpectedly showed up in America with Ebola. You'll excuse me if that doesn't get me ready to ring the alarm. As for healthcare workers getting sick . The unfortunate reality of health care and dealing with infectious diseases. Mistakes happen. I just hooe we learn from these incidents and do better next time. Clearly training needs to be done again. People who took infectious disease training lightly last time wouldn't this round.

Most African nations fall into the "developing nation" category. These things take time.

In the meantime, the First World (developed world) has a global economy to maintain. Somalian pirates, terrorism, regional wars and dangerous epidemics are not conducive to maintaining a well ordered global trade system.

Ebola is breaking out more because of one thing.

    Deforestation.

The disease lies dormant mostly in either certain breeds of monkeys or fruit bats and as their habitat decreases it increases the mingling of these animals and humans.

This current outbreak was traced to patient 0 being a baby who came in contact with a dead fruit bat in its village.

It has nothing to do with their culture.
