It was actually 'progressives' that established the whole age of consent concept in the first place. Also, there's no comparison between things like gay sex or interracial sex and pedophilia, and the ongoing refusal of rightwingers to acknowledge this just makes them sound like they're all ready to become pedophiles. I'm pretty sure that's not the case, but that's what your argument actually implies.

Pretty sure if I was trying to justify this I'd be screwing myself over since I clearly define that a 19 year old having sex with a 15 year old is not ok.

A sliding scale system is best to implement.

In NC, we have something like this.

At 14, someone up to the age of 18 can get intimately involved. At 15, someone up to the age of 19 can get intimately involved. 16 is the universal age of consent.

Okay... now a 56 year old pervert and his 14 year old boyfriend come up and say "if the 14 year old can consent to have sex with an 18 year old, why can't he consent to have sex with a 56 year old?

Ahhhhh the beginnings of the liberal recognizing the fallacy and inevitability of his position.

Understand folks... liberals and supporters of homosexuality may tell you today that they'd NEVER support these people.... but in 20 years they'll be calling you a bigot for not doing so.

True or false? A one word answer is all that's needed. Somewhere in the United States there is a 14 year old physically, mentally, and emotionally mature enough to give meaningful consent to have sex.

By the way, you have no idea how funny I find it that you, as a self-identified socialist, pretend to have any moral high ground. I find your ideology to be disgusting, dehumanizing, and destructive to society.

I disagree. It thrills progressives to enact social change, especially when their ideological opponents seek to resist that change. We've seen a transformation in sexual norms during the last half century and what was taboo yesterday is today's civil rights cause. I don't believe that progressives will ever stop advocating for change, even when their current list of issues are normalized within the overall society. They will always need a new frontier to push the limits, and as I've shown, they've embraced this concept once before. There's nothing to say they won't do it again.

If it wasn't for the comparitively conservative US putting pressure on the Netherlands during the Reagan era, it would probably still be legal there today. Another reason for certain people to visit Amsterdam.

    And the laws says, "Nope."

    That's not going to change.

Mostly strikingly is that your username implying you are a teenager does not match the syntax level of your OP. Beyond that, I don't know where the lines should be drawn.

Acknowledging that some 14 year olds are more mature than others isn't necessarily an endorsement of lowering the age of consent.

For example, it's easy to see that, on rare occasion, you have child prodigies that are far above their peers in mental prowess, but that doesn't mean that their existence justifies changing consent laws.

Now, there are certain slippery slopes connected to how age is treated in the justice system, like with serious crimes. Some minors get charged as adults for things like murder, but the only reason this usually occurs is because the affected systems don't have a proper system available for handling juvenile murderers and such.

In short, this problem can be fixed by expanding upon the system in place for juveniles. Why that hasn't been done in a lot of states is beyond me, but then again, legislators are often caught up in pettier matters.

I think what you mean is that there is contradiction within the legal system. Sometimes you treat people of certain ages as adults and sometimes you don't. Sometimes you acknowledge they're capable of consenting and other times you're not.

Not to mention, the age of consent is completely arbitrary.

The problem is that a good lawyer and a liberal supreme court would = a declaration of age of consent being unconstitutional.

    interesting

I said the unborn child because nobody can deny that it's human life

what's also telling is how you can justify the murder of the unborn child but for reason are repulsed by an older person having sex with a 14-year-old

Give it time, that taboo shall also be deemed acceptable in the leftist la la land

Your analogy requires such a warped twist in logic that it is simply absurd. Let me walk you through it. A fetus within the range of the average abortion within the 1st trimester does not have a brain, therefore it could not think, and henceforth there is no conceivable consent possible. That is a fact. Your agenda is obvious, but there is no connection between your anemic analogy and the previous thought, so your conclusion hangs out there like a useless appendage flapping in the wind.

And for what it is worth, I haven't mentioned anything that would indicate anything about being repulsed about anything. Next time, it might be best not to type from a podium.

How do we know it's a human life? Maybe it's a hybrid alien or a shapechanger.

Or maybe we're all just holodec constructions for Nog's enjoyment.

    false

they may THINK they are, but part of being emotionally, mentally, ready is the ability to deal with the possible consequences of the choice. Be it abortion or raising the kid.... they aren't ready for that part of it.

hmmm, let's review the analogy which you attempted yet failed to refute

I simply point out that the same leftists who are OK with snuffing out the life of an unborn child, then go on to say that a 14 year old cannot give consent to have sex with an adult.

It's OK to murder human life, without consent of the living, but not OK to have sex with young kids

you may want to get some consistency in your positions

That is why leftists are nothing but hypocrites.

Wanna guess where my position is about killing unborn human life, engaging in deviant sexual behavior as well as sex with minors?

You betcha, it is based on moral decency, values and common sense

We'll have to agree to disagree. We've got some people this age already in or graduated from college. While they are the exception to the rule, the point I was going for is that there ARE "exceptions to the rule", even if few and far between.

a 14 yo can't work a normal job if at all. There are restrictions on times allowed for 15 and 16 y.o.'s too..... so, degree or not, they are unable to support kids.

And their success in schools, etc, lead more to being prone to being taken advantage of by a slick talking adult that knows all he has to tell a 14 y.o. girl.... "oh, you're mature, your parents should let you do xxxx, comeon, I'll support you monetarily...."

Lots of juvenile public defenders seem to think age of consent laws should be abandoned. I have no sympathy for predatory pedophiles, but an 18 year old charged with rape of his willing 16 year old girlfriend and then being labeled a child molester for the rest of his life seems pretty kafkaesque.

Listening to her talk is a good reminder that kids shouldn't be making any life choices ;)

I see at the top of her vid she asks how she looks..... well.... she looks great...... until she opens her mouth.
