Just because the club has 100 million payday does not mean they need to spend it...arsenal has for years resisted trying to buy instant success and being responsble financially.... if selling clubs know the buyer will walk away before paying big money the prices will fall....if the buyer has to much cash and appear desparate they will overpay...
I know, that's why I said Spurs wasted money. The only player that Villas Boas bought that year that seems to be finally producing the goods is this kid Lamella. Did you see his wonder goal last week?
No I didn't see it, mrs wyly cancelled my football provider ManU seemed restrained/responsible in its summer purchaces, they know other clubs will raise the price if they come calling...LvG was most certianly aware he needed more defensive depth but a slow build getting the right players instead of buying marginal players at inflated prices is the better long term plan...
I don't think you can call Uniteds summer transfers 'restrained/responsible', considering it is the biggest spending spree in the clubs history. And the fact that they have turned their back on their tried and tested strategy of bringing young players, like Welbeck, through the ranks. Something died at United when they sold Welbeck to their bitter rivals Arsenal, instead of sticking with an out-of-form young striker. Welbeck is now banging in goals at Arsenal, and looks a new player. Here are their summer purchase: £59.7m for Di María (club & English record) Radamel Falcao (£6m loan fee) - It now looks almost certain that they will purchase him for £35m at the end of his loan contract. He has only scored once this season. £27m for Luke Shaw, £28m for Ander Herrera, £16m for Marcos Rojo £14m for Daley Blind That's £150m. United's record transfer season, and the most spent by any club in England this summer. All that and they are currently only eight in the League with the champions Man City to play tomorrow. (He types with glee as a Liverpool supporter!) Oh and you should tell Mrs W that that is simply a denial of your human rights! If you want, I know of a site where you can watch every game in Europe for free! Including the PremierLeague. All you have to do is ask. And here is that wonder goal from Lamella: The kid was a slow starter, but he sure does have potential. I have never, whilst playing and watching football, ever seen anyone do score a goal like that. Maradona made a cross in the 1986 WC semi final like that. But never a goal.
"The theory that Australian football was derived from Gaelic football became popular in the mid-20th century, despite the fact that Australian football was codified almost 30 years before the Irish game There is no archival evidence in favour of a Gaelic origin, and the style of play shared between the two modern codes was evident in Australia long before the Irish game evolved in a similar direction" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football End of argument.
Touche. In fact elements of the Australian game were used in early Gaelic football i.e. the four upright goal posts with no crossbar. Don't mind me I just like stirring the pot, and (you) Aussie's are always an easy target!
No worries John. I don't even like the sport. I've hardly even watched Aussie Rules on tele. I come from a strong Rugby League district and played Rugby League at club level and Rugby Union at school (and University) level. There are some interesting facts regarding Aussie Rules though. Rumour has it, it was first developed to keep the Aussie cricketers fit over winter. I also believe Aussie Rules has the world ground attendance for a weekend club game (not internationals or finals). This could be debatable.
We are not all that good at rugby league in my neck of the woods. Wiki tells me that you may be correct re the record attendance for a club game.
You need to balance what ManU spent against what they removed from it's payroll, 15 players left...and rebuilding a squad to be in the top four and competitive in champions league will always be more expensive than just trying to remain out of the bottom and avoiding the drop... What is this secret footie web site?
United are absolutely blessed that all their main rivals for Champions League spots, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal etc. are all having an appalling start to the season. This is a very strange situation and it will make for a great race for fourth place. If this were any other season, United would be goosed (Dublin expression!) The site I use is First Row Sports. The best way to access is to type Front Row Sports into Google, as they regularly change the url. Also, use Adblocker to, eh, block the adds, and you are away! The quality of the streams have been improving every year. The are never 100%, but you know the saying: Never look a gift horse in the mouth! You can watch North American sports too, and pretty much any sport that has a wide audience. Enjoy.
Celtics-Rangers rivalry returns! http://spfl.co.uk/league-cup/fixture/3636448/ Hopefully, there won't be too many fights during the match.
The World Cup and the Champions' League are phenomenal. Not much beats seeing Costa Rica nearly make the semifinal, or watching APOEL take down an opponent with a payroll 10000X greater than their own
The race for champion League spots in the English Premierleague is really hotting up. Liverpool have been playing champagne football since the new year. Anyone following the MSL here will be in for a real treat when Stephen Gerrard joins LA Galaxy. Himself and Robbie Keane are going to be a lethal combination next season.
hmmm........no way was anybody scoring on this guy, really got his head in the game.........hope it comes out............. https://youtu.be/8F9jXYOH2c0
Don't hate soccer but soccer is not Americana so that makes it un-American. Any time law enforcement sees anyone playing soccer, they should be required to check the papers of those playing or watching a soccer match. If they don't have papers, deport them. If they are citizens and have been indoctrinated by cultural-Marxism in diversity, they should be put on the terrorist watch list.
What a dumb, diversionary political, off thread post ????? You managed to scan all the threads on the Political Forum until you found the sports one, and put this up on a dead thread, which I resurrected because the video was funny? Get a life. I wander around the forum because new in here, and sometimes find threads where nobody has posted a thing for awhile, and put my posts in the correct forums when there are things pertaining to it which are interesting. What was your excuse? Soccer has been around in America for generations. Pro leagues, college leagues, played in most schools for PE (those that dress out). It is a great game for young elementary and Middle School kids, because they get to run, jump, kick and head the soccer ball. Great exercise. Not many kids are good at basketball, and most of them can't play football. Baseball, since just about everybody plays it, male and female, comes a time when they tell you, as if you don't already it, when you no longer can play the game. Too difficult. As far as soccer goes, anybody who can see, and run, can play soccer (well, all except that goaltender who took a whipping) in that video. There is plenty of interest in soccer during the World Cup, and Miami is trying to get that series, they have been bidding on it for a couple of rounds now. Great place to hold it, Joe Robbie Stadium home of the Dolphins of the NFL, originally was built to attract the World Cup, the Dolphins played downtown at the new demolished Orange Bowl Stadium. With its Hispanic heritage and population, and the stadium to hold enough fans, the Magic City would be an excellent choice, and wouldn't have to go broke building an athletic village, or other construction to accommodate the world's fans. We have hosted 11 Super Bowls, the World Cup wouldn't be any bigger. Like the Olympic Games, soccer is best during the World Cup, when entire countries are in the running, and nationalistic pride is on the line. The American Women's World Cub champion team draws tremendous attention. Despite a couple of bouts with the law over fight's with her brother, their goaltender, Hope Solo has millions of fans, and just happens to be beautiful to boot. Lets see - if I go over onto a forum devoted to animals - you going to follow me there and post whether the animals are liberal, conservative, illegally in this country, whatever?
I know, my great grandfather played on America's first professional soccer teams during the late 1800's. Didn't go over to well, America use to be always a very nationalist nation until cultural-Marxism was forced upon America.
What about golf, tennis, etc.? Are they all "un-American" sports?! Currently more people attend MLS games than they do NHL games. Also, women's soccer is the most popular female sport in the US. Besides, outside of basketball, all your biggest team sports are bastardised versions of British and Irish sports. 'American' football developed out of rugby, and for some reason they felt the need to cover the players in pússy body armour!! Baseball, the US's national sport developed out of a traditional Irish game called rounders, which was brought to the US by Irish immigrants in the 19th century. To be fair, baseball was definitely an improvement on rounders. The same can't be said about grid iron:
I like soccer. It could be improved by shortening the field about 40 yards and maybe lowering and widening the nets. As it is, it's an endurance game, only slightly more exciting than watching a marathon.
Love soccer. I wish it was more mainstream in America. I know baseball is all the "American pie" game, but soccer is a lot more fun to watch.
They actually have tried soccer indoors in America, with high plexi glass to keep the ball in play, it never went over well. Sort of like the Arena Football League. In some respects it is similar in tactics to baseball and football. Position players, covering certain areas on offense and defense. In baseball it is actually nine against one in any effort to score. Positioning those nine to insure the batter, hitting a small ball, doesn't hit it into an area where it can't be caught, or fielded for an out, requires strategy. Or, 1 on 1, with a good pitcher on his game that day, and the batter will lose all the time. Rounders and crickett are the origin for American baseball. American football, particularly on defense, resembles soccer. As for wearing padding and helmets, if you have ever seen American pro football from the field level up, the size weight, and speed of those athletes, the hits many times cause concussions. Soccer usually doesn't have the hits - involves more broken field running. American football evolved out of rugby, which also resembles soccer. Lacrosse is a cross between football, baseball and soccer and hockey. The speed the ball is propelled is astonishing. They must wear headgear in that sport. I don't believe increasing the size, height or width of the net in soccer would increase scoring it is pretty wide now for one man or woman to cover. But, cutting that field size down by about 35-40 yards in length, and 10 yards on each sideline would probably increase scoring. American sports involve lots of scoring usually, that is what people want to see. Soccer doesn't provide that, and the breakaway's that you see in hockey or football for scores, usually don't occur with the soccer game. I also could never understand the clock in soccer - the referees get to add extra time to the game, and the fans don't know how much. American baseball has no time clock, it can go on and on, like cricket, and incredibly boring game. American football and basketball have clocks so the fans can actually see the exact amount of time remaining and it is controlled perfectly. Although baseball is a casual, pastoral game, and moves along at a lazy pace, it usually builds in drama as the game goes on. Many times (most times), the pitcher's control this game, and scores are very low. 1-0; 2-1; 3-2, etc. I think the average MLB game has about 5-runs scored. Soccer, a five goal game would be unusual. That's why it doesn't particularly appeal to American sports audiences, the lack of scoring. Of course, there is no accounting for the pervasive Marxist culturalism that is taking over the sport and destroying our games..........
The players cover between 10-15 km and are capable of repeatedly sprinting the entire length of the pitch towards the end of the 90 minutes of play; it is in no way comparable to a marathon.
