I'm sorry to be the bearer of an inconvenient truth, but half of the world (most of Asia) brings up their kids clean and well behaved, and most aren't Christians. you REALLY need to get out more.

Could you imagine characters like Fred Phelps or Australia's own Rev Fred Nile at the helm of a theocracy?

we always knew the mad monk would give us trouble - but the dumb-dumbs voted for him anyway. I almost feel happy that those who voted for him are now freaking out. maybe it'll teach them to think a little further about what sort of world they want to leave their kids.

Fred Nile. I'll wager 99% of Christians would leave the country, if he was in charge. The man is utterly bonkers.

theocracies are evil, what are you gonna do, force people to pretend they believe, only people insecure about their own beliefs want that

Mexico is 98% Christians, yet they flee to come here and no one flees to go there

how about Mexico sends us their 2% that are not Christians and any Christians that want to move to Mexico move there, sure God will pave their streets with gold when thry get to 100%

    well said!

what they really want is a theocracy that looks exactly like a secular democracy - with added kumbaya.

A disgusting pharisaical misuse of the law out of context which Christ himself put into context and THEN FULFILLED that we may not live by the law but die unto the the law and live by Christ.

You and I have discussed this recently. We came to the conclusion, countries where religion plays no part (or even a tiny part ) in the day to day running of the country fair well in terms of their economy and socially. Countries with a high Human Development Index and democracy. Nations like the Scandinavian countries, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, even the US.

His question is a rhetorical one suggesting that if people democratically wish to be governed by religiously derived laws then why not?

As if laws invented for the political elites' benefit is any better?

I prefer laws invented for the benefit of humans actually, as opposed to invisible supernatural beings.

spent many years exploring alternatives, have you?

or are you taking the easiest option and travelling on auto-pilot? ie, choosing to believe that the very religion you most likely grew up with just HAPPENS to be the right one - out of thousands upon thousands of possible 'good for humanity' philosophies.

I've read the Koran took comparative Religion classes and have a thorough education in history.

I'm pretty satisfied with my knowledge base.

I've also written extensively on the differences of the Roman, Dutch and french legal systems in South africa...part of my SUB saharan political capstone.

Because said laws were written thousands of years ago. There is NOTHING democratic about them, either.

Yes, that's how it works. You choose satisfaction because it obviates the hard work of aiming higher.

I have ask which Bible laws you have in mind. Read Exodus 21 starting at the beginning and ask yourself whether what you see written there is really what is best for humans.

Yep. Jefferson was a Christian fundamentalist...which is why he denied the divinity of Christ and rewrote the Bible to remove all mention of the supernatural.

Also, the very first part of the Bill of Rights enshrines religious freedom. How exactly does that equal wanting this country to be "for Christian fundamentalists"?

I'm not saying that it won't work with everybody sincerely adhering to whatever brand of theocracy. I'm saying it won't work because of those who won't adhere to it. Thus there is no point in listing all those groups wherein everything functions just hunkey-dorey within the groups.

All those groups with the possible exception of Buddhists and maybe Hindus depend on a form of brainwashing. They don't get close enough to the real nitty gritty. The bad guys won't quit until they are overruled by the effects of a concerted shift in mass consciousness.

The key understandings are revealed in Handbook for the New Paradigm and Embracing the Rainbow Vol. II. Sample a chunk of the latter here. It's potent and far-reaching.

If anyone wants to make America a Theocracy, they need to get rid of the Second Amendment first.

oh but I do. I apply the same philosophy to things like math. I'm 'satisfied' with my knowledge base because satisfaction obviates the need to do more math.
