It's a global economy. It has been for a long time. People need to quit discriminating. Good products are good products. If Americans aren't making them that's our issue. We should try to do better not hate.

lol I have a local story that demonstrates how super sophisticated Walmart is.

Joe Blow Investment, Inc. (I don't remember the real name of the corporation.) buys a piece of property. Joe Blow Investment, Inc. shows up at a city council meeting to apply for a permit. The city councilman says, "What are you building?". He answers, "A Walmart". The city council didn't have time to make bogus regulations to block Walmart because they didn't know Walmart was even in their town. The permit was denied by the city council without any legal justification whatsoever. In an unrelated story, 5 out of 25 of those city employees resigned at the same time for unrelated reasons.

There are things that make you go hmmmmm.

Lol. It's quite sad. Because a lot of people argue for stuff that they have no idea what they are really saying.

As usual here at PF ... A real humdinger of a Juvenile Grown-up debate.Kinda like the
Old man after coming home all week working and sweating and toiling at
the local steel mill to sit down on a Friday night and watch the fights.
After about the 5th Iron City beer he stands up and strikes a boxing
pose, like how he managed to spar one afternoon with the great Jack Dempsey.
Same basic hullaballo.Without the gloves,of course.Or Iron city Beer.

Try opening up a hardware store near a WalMart.

WalMart is so big that it eliminates competition. For many small towns, they're the only retailer because today, housing developments are build after the central WalMart store.

Walmart has greatly increased the buying power of the poor. That, in itself, is reason to support the Walmart model.

Walmart has single-handedly brought prices down on so many items that the poor can finally dress their kids in new clothes, buy them bicycles and make them feel as though they fit in with other kids.

And that is a good thing. The only issue is the old owners are losing market share. Oh well. I guess you have to sacrifice for everyone else.

There's the beginning and end of all the Walmart hate and paranoia, and the source of all the anti Walmart propaganda. Not much else needs be said.

I think globalisation and the mass exodus of our domestic manufacturing did not begin with Walmart, but rather with Ronald Reagan (pbuh).

When a shopping mall, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Staples, Bath and Body, Best Buy---come into town do people share the same illogical hatred? No. You shouldn't enable your brother to be idiotic. Walmart hatred rates up there in passion with Jew hatred.

Lies ... Lies and more lies.In the next town over from me is a Lowe's .
Right next to a Wal*mart superstore.Wal*mart specifically carries little in the way
of hardware stuff.Like Tools or fix it items.Same goes for Pet Supplies.
As there is a Feeders Supply store next to the Lowe's.
Wal*Mart also doesn't carry anything but basic shoe items and no higher
item clothes.Wal* mart does know their place.

They also pay higher. When i worked at a local IGA, i was payed minimum wage and would never get a raise, with walmart both the earning potential and the potential to advance is much higher.

You evidently don't go into Walmart. Hardly any hardware. Sears and lowes carries that stuff. Ignorance is talking when someone says Walmart is going to put a hardware store out of business.

That's what Lowes and Home Depot are
for. If you need a cheap hammer, Walmart has it. It doesn't go much further than the basics there. And if a local hardware store had competitive pricing and some real experts, I'd shop there in a second. I bought my Weber Grill from a local place because the big stores didn't have the model I wanted and all the guys working there knew their sh1t. THATs capitalism. If you're going to compete, fill a niche The big guys can't fill.

Progress... Progressive. Are you suggesting that liberals are not really "progressive"?

A friend of mine owns a mom and pop type hardware store. Years ago a Lowes moved in about 200 yards down the road from his store. while the Lowes was being built, peop,e would go to his store and tell him how Lowes was going to ruin his business.

After the Lowes opened, he adjusted and ensured he carried many items Lowes did not sell. His small hardware store business increased dramatically. It's been more than ten years and he's doing better all the time. Lowes had a huge impact upon his business. A positive impact.

I can confirm when a walmart comes to a small town it ruins it... but is it really their fault, without buyers, there is no walmart

I try to shop mostly at are mom\pop stores, even the grocery stores, has more of a home town feel to it and make me feel like I am helping local people, I do not get that feel when shopping at the big boys

though I do confess to doing too much shopping on Amazon.com that I could do local.... bad me

I have said in the past that liberals should have renamed themselves retrogressives.
