‘Not your BMW!’: Woman sues NYC after being forced into psych ward by police

Well, that seem that the taxpayers are ones and again going to cough up millions because the cops detained a person for the crime of driving while black, and than let her get drugged up in an extreme way. The spiral of what the cops do with Afro Americans is just a down hill race with no end in sight. Who on earth is able to change the attitude of these cops.

Couldn't they simply have asked for her registration showing that she owned the vehicle?
I do understand that cops these days have low I.Q's but this is ridiculous.

 

That is quite a story. Hard to believe. Will be interesting to hear what comes from the other side.

 

As far as I know, if a car has a license plate, than they just know who the owner is.
So it just blows the mind how she got treated.


Not to mention that she never should have been dragged to the police station, since she did nothing wrong.... besides driving while black.

The story is actually all over the place.

 

In California we carry the car's registration around, usually in the glove box. The police always ask for your license and registration and are able to verify quite quickly whether anything is wrong.

After a moment with a search engine, I have established that you do indeed register vehicles in New York, so either the woman is a moron and threw away the documentation, didn't deem it important enough to bother with and was thus asking for trouble or the story is nonsense.

How come all the sites reporting this seem to be off-the-wall with nothing to back them up except the alleged story by the woman herself. That includes the OP which appears to be a Russian website. Why no New York media reports even the ones who love to go after the police?

If the hospital kept her long enough the car would have been declared abandoned
It used to be 90 days in New York I do not know what it is now

The car could've been auctioned off or used by plainclothes detectives
In any case she would have lost the car

And if she was not really a banker or someone that can afford a lawyer they would've kept her long enough to lose the car

 

NYC cops are racists and goons. This is exemplified time after time. This woman was lucky they didn't find cause for more serious harm.

Yes, but even that story has zero independent sourcing except the woman's claims. Yes, she was taken into custody, but after that, there is nothing but her claims. Meanwhile, the police say that she was acting like a crazy woman. In all frankness, her story does not wash. "They would not believe the BMW was mine". That is such BS. either she is on the registration, or someone else is. She's lying.
