I support the Second Amendment. 100%. I also support: - Criminal background checks on all gun purchases to prevent homicides - Laws that make sure guns are kept locked in gun safes to prevent robbery and accidental death (especially children) - Mental health screening on all gun purchases to prevent suicides and homicides -
Yeaaahhhh..... No law will prevent homicides. In 2008 the SCotUS ruled that these laws violate the Constitution. No law will prevent homicides and suicides. So much for all that.
You would think laws against homicide would stop homicide better, wouldn't you? Especially considering the penalties for homicide are far more serious. The system we have in place for background checks isn't stopping people who have long histories of criminality and mental illness. Do you think a much more complicated and ridiculously expensive program is going to succeed? There are already enough laws and processes out there to keep weapons out of the hands of lunatics, but they are not working. What might want to concentrate on fixing our current system don't you think? Besides, none of this matters when our justice system is just going to release them in a year or so to start their criminal behavior all over again.
