The Philippines was ready to have a bilateral agreement with China, when they foolishly asked Washington to help them mediate.

...And since when would the US mediate without instigating wars and chaos?

    Washington DC = War & Chaos = Trotskyites = Neo Cons = George Soros = NGO's = Regime Changes

Youre making this (*)(*)(*)(*) up as you go along. There was no bilateral agreement.

It's about the mineral deposits in the waters... which China needs desperately for its industries as well as Japan, Phillipines, S. Korea, and Taiwan. These nations were fearful they wouldn't be able to negotiate with China in a position of strength so they foolishly asked the US to help mediate ...which it did in its usual destructive way.

Now compare that to Lavrov, who spent over six months to get the 80 plus legitimate oppositions to Assad to reach an agreement. These groups have now joined the Assad government, since most of their concerns have been addressed.

In the meantime Washington continued to support the terrorist groups in Syria so peace could not be established since it wouldn't conform with Washington's agenda of breaking Syria up into ethnic and religious enclaves which will always be in opposition to one another. ..and thereby assuring Washington's dominance and control over them.

Of course there wasn't a bilateral agreement, or there wouldn't be a problem. China was trying to reach one with the different countries involved, and as I said they asked Washington to help mediate so they could be in a greater position of strength.

Nothing, but it does keep those nations and China in friction with one another, and that's exactly what Washington wants. No alliances between nations please, it's doesn't suit Washington and its agendas. :wall:

What the actual (*)(*)(*)(*) is this (*)(*)(*)(*)? First off the objective of the Korean was was to keep South Korea out of North Korea hands. I don't know if you've looked at a map recently but that's a big (*)(*)(*)(*)ing check in the accomplished box. Second off, China literally got its ass whopped. It launched a total surprise attack with far greater numbers then we had, and we lost around 4000 men as a result, most due to the cold. Meanwhile. 8 out of the 10 divisions China sent were COMPLETELY destroyed. The casualties of the Chinese forces numbered in the hundreds of thousands. Go ask Chinese person about the Chosin Reservoir. They used to be so utterly ashamed of it that it was illegal to say the name in China for some years. Lmfao. I love it when sad loons like you try this history revisionism.

I'm going back about four years, when China wanted to negotiate, and the nations involved asked Washington to leave its bases so they could negotiate in a position of strength with China over the territorial waters. The negotiations never came to fruition once Washington became involved, so China reacted by building islands.

Relax Al Gore. We aren't going to war over those tiny islands we don't use. Nothing in it for us.

The issue is quite similar to the Japanese occupation of Manchuria, which was declared illegal by the Lytton Commission in 1932. After the findings of the Report were announced before the General Assembly of the League of Nations, Japan withdrew from the League of Nations. It would be interesting if the United Nations addresses the matter at the General Assembly of the UN, thus humiliating China further by condemning its military aggression in the South China Sea.

In spite of care to preserve impartiality between the conflicting views of China and Japan, the effect of the Report was regarded as a substantial vindication of the Chinese case on most fundamental issues. In particular, the Commission stated that the operations of the Imperial Japanese Army following on the Mukden incident could not be regarded as legitimate self-defense. Regarding Manchukuo, the Report concluded that the new State could not have been formed without the presence of Japanese troops; that it had no general Chinese support; and that it was not part of a genuine and spontaneous independent movement. Still, the report held that both China and Japan had legitimate grievances. Japan, it states, took advantage of questionable rights, and China obstructed by the exercise of her undoubted rights. The Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says: "The report, which was approved unanimously, proposes that China and Japan shall be given three months in which to accept or reject the recommendations. It is hoped that the parties will agree to direct negotiations."

The international court have no enforcement capability it is up to nations to abide.
The US is satisfy with the status quo let China be the de facto owner. The Philippines has nothing to offer the USA, the USA have already abandoned the Philippines after WWII and turn their full support to Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

Or, as in this case the Phillipines used supranational institutional mechanisms like UNO to identify violations of international law by China

It sounds like China just wants to be perceived as powerful and important and have a favored position in the region. So far, it seems they also have the means to make it so.

Will they be happy with that, or will they seek to glom more going forward, I wonder?

Actually, we were militarily IN the Philippines from WWII until 1992 when the Philippines decided our military presence should end. Ive heard they regretted that decision for economic reasons.

Noy bribed by Washington on EDCA (Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement) —LSF

China-Philippines Dispute was of little consequence until Washington bribed the Government in Manila and launched "Freedom of Navigation" propaganda campaign. It actually meant freedom for American warships to patrol, intimidate and dominate the coastal waters of China. What would be your reaction if Chinese warships did the same off the coast of California ??

They want to assert a claim to the oil and gas in the South China Sea and deny any claims of neighboring countries to those resources.

"Bribed". Odd characterization when it was

“..... the government of President Aquino had pressed the United States for up to $300 million in aid this year, arguing that it needs a substantial buildup of planes and ships to deter Chinese expansionism."

    Not exactly.

The New York Times (in Aug, 2015) declared the Philippines as the most corrupt country in the Asian region. The NYT story that said "In private talks, the government of President Aquino had pressed the United States for up to $300 million in aid this year," also said that "United States officials have asked to keep the talks confidential,” ..... Philippines (too) is the biggest aid recipient of the US in Southeast Asia already.

The EDCA allows US troops into the Philippines for extended stays and allows them to build and operate facilities on Philippine bases, for both American and Philippine forces. It is also a supplemental agreement to the previous VFA. The agreement also allows US forces and contractors to operate out of “agreed locations,”

So, the allegation is that the US bribed/paid extra money to Noy to get EDCA signed (to gain re-entry in Philippines) without ratification from the Senate, despite criticism. Contextually, the EDCA is very disadvantageous to the Philippines because it opens wide the gates to US bases which was collectively rejected by the people in 1991.

China wanted to come to some bilateral agreements about four years ago, but when those countries wanted the Americans there so they could negotiate with China from a position of strength it was manipulated by Washington for their own destructive purposes. Today those countries get nothing and the people, especially in the Philippines will continue in poverty, and Washington will get to keep its bases there as a thorn in China's eye. Who wins, and who loses? You figure it out.

There are no more US bases in the Philippines it was evacuated and turn over to the Philippine after the Vietnam war when the Philippine government decided to imposed rent the USA refused to pay and decided it is best to leave.
China's position is that their territorial claims be recognize and China will be willing to work with neighboring nations in terms of access and exploration within those areas under China's authority.
US relationship with the Philippines is different from Japan and Taiwan. Both Japan and Taiwan are fully capable of defending their territorial integrity.

China's claim stretches all the way to almost entire Philippine coast. See the red line of China's claim.

Part of the Philippine wanted the US bases to remain and another part view it as a a symbol of colonial imperial occupying force.
The bases presence ended after the Philippines decided to charge rental fee, the US refused the rent proposal and decided it is in the US best interest to leave and turn over the bases to the Philippines just like Brexit, some Filipinos back then are now regretting they ever supported the rent proposal. In fact, after WWII Philippine was lobbying to become an official State of the USA it did not happened because of resistance from other Filipinos, the prospect of the US government having to shoulder the massive reconstruction of WWII, social and other expenses to a large population equal the size of US mainland.

China will retaliate against the Philippines economically and if the US do not step up economically to off set China's economic war against the Philippines, the Phil. will find itself to have no choice but to submit to China's will.

And then there is the real world where the Philippian Senate rejected the agreement to extend the US presence, characterizing the continued presence as colonialism and an affront to Philippine sovereignty . We hadn't paid a dime in rent since 1979, sooooo there was no dispute as to the amount of rent

While 1992 is technically "after the Vietnam war", the closure of bases had nothing to do with the end of the Vietnam war.

Is there any source for the above, or should people just assume you are infallible and accept what you say as divine doctrine hmmm?

You even know where the Philippines is on a map?
