An armed populace for defense, sport, and pleasure, is as normal as free speech and thinking ones own thoughts, as opposed to being entirely dependent upon others for direction and defense. It is as normal as building ones own furniture, growing ones own tomatoes or raising and harvesting ones own meats for personal satisfaction, in spite of all these things being otherwise professionally available. In freedom, one may be both servant and king, as it brings the blessings of both into a fuller satisfaction, a connection to reality and a balance of judgment. The farther away from this we go, the more unfit and dissatisfied we are likely to become.

 

A person who is of the mindset that he or she would go out and shoot up a school and kill a bunch of school children isn't going to be concerned by your "well regulated militia" ideas or your restrictions. It certainly doesn't take an Einstein to figure that out.

Also, I just want to add something. It doesn't really matter what the second amendment says. The Constitution is a living, breathing document...some has pointed this out. A liberal, not me. So now we just re-write it to confer the right to own firearms to both individuals as well as militias. There. Problem solved.

I never claimed that there was any "unlimited rights", whatever that means. You are the one who claimed that all rights are limited so the onus falls on you to prove it.

No you didn't prove it. Just because you keep chanting "all rights are limited" does not mean you have proven that they are. You are just stating your belief. Same as how if I want to prove "abortion is murder", I can't just keep chanting it and say I have "proven" it.

 

Militia’s were a common method of defence of the colony’s territorial boarders in the 1700 hundreds. Washington himself served in a British Militia during the Seven Year war against the Spain and France. In those times civilian Militia’s were essential in defence of the thousand plus miles of the British colonies on the eastern seaboard which the small British army, that numbered just over 6000 troops in 1776, couldn’t hope to defend by themselves.
Most of the Continental Army was disbanded in 1783 so armed Militia’s were the only means of defending the American colonies until the foundation of the United States Army in 1796.

There were no laws prohibiting the ownership of firearms in most of Europe at the time of the drafting of the 2nd amendment, so the amendment itself is not unique to America. Though in Europe, the price of hand made guns put them way out of the purchasing power of the ordinary citizen.

It’s not for me to comment on America’s gun laws or the lack of them, I’m not American, but one pretty frightening fact you might have come across is quote: "More Americans have died from guns in the United States since 1968 than on battlefields of all the wars in American history."

 

This might surprise you, but under the federal militia law you are a member of the militia.

You have the organized militia and the unorganized militia. All American males who are not a member of the organize militia are members of the unorganized militia.

If you don't own a military style rifle you are derelict in your duty as being a member of the unorganized militia.
