Trump makes false statement about U.S. murder rate to sheriffs’ group

Shocker! Trump told a whopper that he has told before, that has been debunked before.

Indeed, Trump once again falsely claimed that the murder rate is the highest it has been in 40 years, and once again the man is not correct.

I do have to wonder if Trump's ignorance on these topics is willful or simply is. Certainly no one can be that perpetually inaccurate on accident.

President Trump met Tuesday morning with a group of sheriffs from the National Sheriffs Association, a group that consists of more than 3,000 sheriffs from around the country. And to this sworn group of law enforcement veterans, with reporters taking notes, he again repeated a falsehood about the murder rate in America.

Trump told the sheriffs, “the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years.” He blamed the news media for not publicizing this development, then added, “But the murder rate is the highest it’s been in, I guess, 45 to 47 years.”

The country’s murder rate is not the highest it’s been in 47 years. It is almost at its lowest point, actually, according to the FBI, which gathers statistics every year from police departments around the country.

It depends on where you live. If you are black, I bet the statistic for your neighborhoods is true. Look at Chicago. More shootings last year than US serviceman deaths in 10 years of war in Afghanistan. But let's ignore blacks because we want to tell the story that Trump and all the people who voted for him are stupid.

Something is wrong here. Before the election I heard constantly from lefties that gun violence had reached an all time high in recent years and everyone should register or turn in their firearms to make our country safer.
Who is correct?

The murder rate nationwide went up a little in 2015 (from 4.4 per 100,000 people to 4.9 per 100,000 people). This is still much lower than it was in the 1980s and 1990s. It's less than half the rate in 1991. Nowhere near the highest in 40 years. Trump is either totally ignorant or lying through his teeth. Either case is unacceptable for the POTUS.

As a righty, I've been saying that our murder rate is fairly low historically speaking, and I said it during the Obama admin (and even the Bush admin). Crime isn't out of control in this country like it was in the 1990s.

 

We know they rose sharply in Chicago in 2016.

 

Chicago has less than 1% of the population of the U.S.(roughly 3 million out of 320 million) Yes, it caused the overall stats to go up a little, but our murder rate is still low historically speaking.

In 2015, it had 762 murders, which was a big increase over the 492 they had in 2014 (can we say Rahm Emmanuel's fault?) In 1992 it had 943 murders.

 

People need to realize that Trump is basically truthless. He says whatever he wants to. He is different from all other politicians. The truth literally means nothing to him. And that's a big problem.

When people have to put trump under a microscope, and be consumed with finding something he said that is wrong, like stats, next stop is some mental institution. I said in my first post regarding the issue that it's a numbers game, a math trick. More murders with population increases reduces the murder rate.

But more murders is more murders. No?

 

How does Donald Trump differ from other politicians when it comes to matters of truth? Politics involve a great deal of deception and trickery on the part of everyone involved. There are no people, only pawns to be used in what is little more than a game of chess. Lives are nothing more than commodities, and hold no value to anyone unless they benefit someone else in some way. A group of private individuals quite literally has no more worth to politicians than a pack of batteries does to anyone else.

 

I do not think that Trump made a mistake but believe that the Tool purposely gave a high number. Face it people the Tool is a liar.

 

Trump needs to read from Index Cards, like he has with some of his statements, such as the Navy Seal that was killed in the line of duty. That way, he is reading what somebody else said. Since he can't be presidential, at least he will then appear to be.

 

We need an Outrage Gauge. We can't go full on retard over the smallest issues, or our outrage will be diluted when something Trump does really hurts our feelings.

 

Now, now be fair and give him the same chance that was given to Obama. Let's wait and see if he responds like Obama -- once touted by the Left as a Great Communicator of a president and automatically the smarted guy in any room -- and see if he also says nothing but, "Uh-Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh--Uh-Uh-" the first and then EVERY TIME his teleprompter cuts out on him.
