I don't think so, revering the elderly is a big part of Chinese culture. They might adopt a policy of approved suicide, but that is not the same thing.

Chinese missile detection systems are not up to the standard of the old Soviet Union.

And not remotely comparable to those of the United States.

Same with their command and control systems.

The same article addressed all that as well.

How many US cities and millions of citizens are you willing to risk on your gamble that we can take out China's nuclear arsenal?

Are you willing to put your own life on the line for it? For instance, if you are wrong and a US city get destroyed, the American people get to watch you be tortured to death on live TV in exchange?

Well pretty much everyone in Europe just laid down to hitler. If it weren't for the US, all of them would have fallen.

    You're welcome, by the way.

One of the many reasons China is in truth only a regional power and likely to stay that way.

Learn some history; by the time the US got involved (two years in), the USSR had already defeated Hitler in Russia (Barbarossa, 1941), and the Wehrmacht were on the back foot, fighting on two fronts. Defeat from that point on was inevitable. The Soviet Union contributed more toward defeating the Nazis than all the other allies put together, in the course of which Russia lost some 20 million dead.
As far as laying down was concerned, you do realise that we were up against the world's most modern and well-trained military, and had no way of attacking the German mainland other than by air, which had limited success. No other nation in Europe had anything like a decent army-except France which, admittedly, could have done better. By the time France was invaded pretty much all of Europe was occupied by the Nazis, and it wasn't until June '44 that we could launch an effective invasion of our own.

You're welcome for saving you from Germany. I'll take your silence as a thank you

What 'silence'? I responded to your post! You didn't save Europe; the Soviet Union did.

We did; Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin made a deal at the Yalta conference, carving up Eastern Europe in gratitude for Stalin's contribution. Poland was cut in half with the Eastern half becoming Ukraine. Poland never forgave them for that gross act of betrayal of their longest standing, and most loyal, ally.

The two arms control guys in the article estimated a 99% chance of destroying all the Chinese ICBMs with a U.S. first strike.

Any missiles they did manage to launch, that is what we build ABMs for.

So those odds look very promising for the immense payoff of eliminating a competitor of the U.S. and best of all reducing the worlds nuclear powers.

Remember the Chinese in the end benefit from this as well.

ABMs don't have anywhere close to a 100% success rate.

How many cities are you willing to sacrifice in this gamble? How many millions of Americans are you willing to murder?

Are you willing to personally suffer the consequences if your gamble turns out wrong?

    I wouldn't worry too much.

And it would be the Chinese murdering Americans.

    Not me.

If the Chinese want to avoid war all they have to do is accept their place in the world and not try to upset the global apple cart the U.S. has spent a century building.

I think you missed the part about missile technology making ships obsolete. China's shipbuilding exercise is to patrol what they figure are their territorial waters - not to have a war with the US.

China and the US are not going to war but, if they did - sinking ships with the modern missile technology is like shooting fish in a barrel ... and if that did not work China would nuke any Carrier attack group should it actually pose a threat to it's borders.

What is a carrier group going to do against a nuclear cruise missile ? This is not Libya we are talking about.

If you are going to use terms like laughably ignorant - you might first take log of own eye :)

Chinese Navy? Lol let me tell you something about the Han, they can copy things pretty well.... but only from a distance does it look like the original and the quality and workmanship is (*)(*)(*)(*). Their navy would malfunction and sink before any real action would transpire. They are a paper tiger, and the paper is fake.

The missiles would be deployed to their firing points as soon as they were alerted of an attack.

37 sailors didn't survive. It's search radars were active, but didn't detect the missiles. The Stark is lucky that only one of the missiles actually detonated.

    So?

And unless the Chinese mobile missiles made it to their launch point in less than 8-10 minutes (flight time of a D-5 missile from the mid to western Pacific) then there would be no point.

That assumes perfect warning and command/control on the part of the Chinese.

No, the Iraqis were totally clueless. The Iraqis didn't know the locations of US units until they were being fired upon.
